please advice me for a the best shoe for marathon and the best shoe for trail running (mountain running) especially in our rainforest .  TQ so much
*
Depending on your feet bio-mechanics, then u choose the right shoe for yourself. In general in falls into the following category: 1) Neutral 2) Mild and Over Pronation and 3) Motion Control. Most runners falls under category 1 and 2. Saucony have models that catered for category 1 and 2. The best thing is for you to do a wet test first and I can take a look at your foot imprint to determine if you are normal or high arch, or even flat footed.

For trail running shoe, i find cheaper option are NB, they do have a lot of variety. If you want better, try Salomon (can be found in world of outdoor, The Garden).  tongue.gif  I have a pair of Salomon XT Wings, i find it really superb in trail, providing me good grip but not compromising on cushioning. The only drawback is $$$.  tongue.gif

I think Asics and Mizuno do have some trail shoe oso, dunno how good is that, just think their product should be quite good.
*
My experience in NB trail shoes is its darn hard, not so flexible. But is cheap as you said. Salomon is definitely one of the best. IMHO i will not be penny wise pound foolish when buying a trail shoes. we need good grip, flexible and good cushioning in more rugged terrain.

That is quite fast timing.. i think i won't be able to run as fast as you all..... i will come out around 125++...hahah maybe i will reach once you all finish all drink oredi.... BTW anyother forummer will be there in this coming saturday  6 AM early training run?
*
125mins is acceptable lah. so no worries. the training is not abt whose first or last. the most important and inspiring moment is for everyone to start together and run our own pace. u will definitely find someone to pace with. no matter wat there is always fast and slow runners. just come and join us.

You sure can, and if you feel comfortable before the 2 months, just increase ur mileage gradually by 1k to 2k.

Where can I walk-in submit participation for NB 15km around KLCC?

QUOTE(pinknotebook @ Apr 16 2009, 09:59 PM)
Hie, I'm trying to increase both speed and stamina for long distance running.

I'm more of a hobby jogger, but I plan to start joining half marathons by this year or at least the next flex.gif

I seek advice from the veterans on how i should gradually train myself to last longer. Currently I fare about 4.5km in 25-30 minutes (just running). Having a muscle pain problem after exercise from pushing myself to run more than i am used to. Wondering what i should do to reduce the pain and heal the pain

Also, is it physically dangerous to exercise to exercise with muscle pain?

Thank you in advance biggrin.gif
*
Everyone plus yourself can train for a 1/2 marathon. From the current 4.5k that you are running, try to increase the distance gradually. 1k to 2k will be just nice and stick to it for a 1-2 weeks until your body get use to it. Then do the same thing till u hit 10km. Stay at 10k for 1 to 2 months or even longer till u r comfortable running it. By now you can increase your next level to 15k and then 20k. You may experience muscle pain along the way. Dont worry too much as its normal bcos your muscle is strengthening. And hopefully by then you are ready to run a 1/2 marathon race.

Very important thing to remember is dont rush into it. Listen to your body, else you will easily injure yourself especially the heels, the knees and ankles.

Note: If you experience muscle pain and its not too serious, you can still run but lower mileage.

Thank you very much smile.gif

I have a friend who is asking me to join a BP Orange Run (or something like that) half marathon in June, was wondering if it was impossible to train in time for that

But is there anything I can do to ease the pain? I do 5 minute warm downs if I jog more than 3km. Creams? Massages? Food? xD
*
I dont think is Orange Run as it was last Sunday. If its in June most probably is the StanChart Marathon on June 28. But its only 2 months to train for a 1/2 marathon race and I think its a bit rush. You have not even do a 10k run before. Maybe instead of 21k, go and do the 10k run instead. That will give u an indication how well you had train for 2 months.

As for the muscle pain, just use some creams to rub on the affected part. As for me I normally go for a recovery drink (Endurox) to help ease muscle stiffness or soreness, and that is only when I run 25k and above.

Need to ask u something...Usually where do you all park during the Sat morning run? Scare i wait at the wrong place.....Besides that you all run all the way for 20 without water stop? Soli.. need to prepare a bit

*
We park at the Bukit Aman carpark in Lake Gdns....and nearer towards the public toilet. The 20k route from Bkt Aman will have a break at the Petronas station at Hartamas. And all of us do our refueling there. Just bring along some $$$ thats enuf for ur own drinks.

I registered for StandChart 10KM run, but I have no experience in outdoor jogging... I always jog at fitness center only... Current achievement is 30min run for 4.35KM. My wish is just complete the 10km on time.

Is it possible for me to do so?? Need advise on this... thanks~
*
Refer to my comment to pinknotebook. You can continue to train on the mills. But its always good to train outdoors too.

Hmm... My friend goes for training every weekend in the early morning. It is like 6am... Honestly I cannot wake up so early...

I am not a runner either, just want to try.

Running for long distance is not my cup of tea. I don't see myself will regiester for a full marathon in future as well... haha...
*
Try to run in a group. That will give up better motivation vs running alone. Dont worry about the distance. Just run to your comfort level first. Else you can always adopt a run-walk technic in the beginning.

Lotsa of ppl think we are Siao Lang waking up so early on a weekend just to torture ourselves. But for runners like us its just a weekend routine. On a normal Sat/Sun, i wake up at 5am to prepare for my run at 6am. And If i am doing a 30k+, then i wake up even earlier like 4am as we normally start a long run at either 5am or 6am. To us its more tiring if we sleep late, awake late. The reverse is better.

Thanks.
I wish to seek for advise from you guys, as I do not know how should I start? How to train stamina? keep running and running?
*
Just start with 5k. If u oredi can do 5k, then increase it to either 7k or 8k. Try to run at least 3x a week. Stick to the distance for 1 to 2 weeks. Then move onto 10k for your weekend run.

From now on ur weekdays run shud be between 6k to 8k, while ur weekend run shud be 10k. Stay with this mileage for at least a month (2 months if needed) and then start to do a longer run on your weekend ie 12k or 13k. Just slowly condition your body so that you will allow it to adapt to the increase in mileage. Do not try to do short cut and increase mileage from 10k to 15k, as you may suffer from injury.

Follow this and you shud be able to increase your stamina and endurance.
