QUOTE(linkinstreet @ Sep 2 2007, 06:53 PM) And how did u personally translated that?"Kimochi Warui" can mean several things in different contexts and has drived translators nuts for that scene cuz nobody knows Anno's intentions. For me i just think Asuka said something along the lines "I feel like shit". |

only Anno and Miyamura Yuko (her seiyuu) really know what it meant. And in the end, I think that's what Anno wanted, to keep it open without any conclusive meaning. Trust the USian to want a real answer

Well they have to translate it somehow.
From somewhere i read, not even Miyamura Yuko knows. QUOTE At last Anno asked me 'Miyamura, just imagine you are sleeping in your bed and a stranger sneaks into your room. He can rape you anytime as you are asleep but he doesn't. Instead, he masturbates looking at you, when you wake up and know what he did to you. What do you think you would say?' I had been thinking he was a strange man, but at that moment I felt disgusting. So I told him that I thought 'Disgusting.' And then he sighed and said, 'I thought as much.'" Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End_Of_Evangelion (scroll down to FINAL SCENE for SPOILARZ) And you still haven't answer my question on what your personal interpretation is. |

My favourite interpretation of the scene.
QUOTE » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « [Source] Makes it a really twisted and depressing ending, but somehow effective in terms of impact on the audience. Except i dun remember haruhi strangling kyon....more like she was shaking him to wake up.
Haruhi creates worlds in her perfect image which happens to make the old world disappear. Shinji just chooses to accept or reject instrumentality. Not that similar. |

Actually, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya does reminds me of Evangelion. Small stuffs like those glowing gigantic human shaped beasts kinda resembles the Angels, more precisely, Adam. And how Haruhi rejected the new world she would probably end up creating (as how Shinji rejected/accepted the new world in Evangelion as he is entrusted to decide whether to continue instrumentality).
But well, I'd vote Haruhi for entertainment anytime, Evangelion for serious brain thinking. Btw ain't the first series suppose to be shown on 1st Sept 2007 at Japan? *googles for ahem* |

There's a shop in Midvalley which still sells the Asian so called 'Limited Edition' EoE. Too bad I can't manage to buy the Evangelion Platinum series. Couldn't do an overseas order. |

QUOTE(dinghy @ Sep 3 2007, 12:06 AM) My favourite interpretation of the scene. Like I said, we will never know, and like Anno, I prefer to keep an open mind to the ending. [Source] Makes it a really twisted and depressing ending, but somehow effective in terms of impact on the audience. QUOTE(dinghy @ Sep 3 2007, 12:06 AM) P/s: This isn't NGE, but I think it belongs here more than the Haruhi thread. "I reject reality and substitute it with my own" - Adam Savage, circa 2000» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Also, this convinced me that it was a homage of sorts to NGE. ![]() Anyways, in the novel the scene was straightforward. So I doubt Haruhi was doing an NGE there. And like wolfy said, it was different between shinji (who had to choose between togetherness or individuality) and Haruhi (who don't even have to choose, she can make it) |

OMFG
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-...d-evas-new-girl QUOTE The first of the four Evangelion movie remakes, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone, opened Saturday, and it featured a "next episode preview" for the 2008 sequel with more redesigned EVA units and a previously unanimated female character. Specifically, the first EVA units will have a new backpack attachment for an aerial drop sequence (analogous to the scene in episode 9 of the series), the EVA-04 unit is hinted to appear for the first time in animation, a new mono-eyed EVA-05 design will appear, and the EVA-06 will feature a completely new design as well. The new character is an eyeglasses-wearing, brunette girl. The preview's narrator, Kotono Mitsuishi as the character Misato Katsuragi, promised more fan "service-service" in the second movie. (Evangelion: 1.0 had partial nudity.) The Evangelion: 1.0 movie played to standing-room-only audiences in Tokyo-area theaters from morning to evening. The movie's pamphlet included a notice that Studio Khara (director Hideaki Anno's new company whose first work is this movie) is "accepting applications for staffers" to work on the second movie. A full review of Evangelion: 1.0 will be posted. WTF..... some new mono-eyed gundams ala EVA00 and what nots....omg...is Gainax going to shove more merchandise down our throats? And the new girl....previously unanimated....what does that mean? Can it be Mana from Girlfriend of Steel? Hmmmm. |

Unit 06 was from the moon, the same as Kaworu. I think they added it because kaworu piloted 02 in the original, but as Asuka is not in Japan yet, they need a new Eva for him to pilot it.
Mana did not wear glasses, but as many pointed out, new characther does not mean instant popularity as mana was a flop (she was against the mighty Asuka to vie for Shinji's attention anyways. Go figure) Service? Heh it's... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « 04 and 05 appearance mean we might have more info on the US and German branch of NERV compared to the series. (The US branch went KAPUT when they secretly mated S2 with an EVA) |

Kaworu was never assigned to 02 in the series. Just that he had 100% sync with it and he "possesed" it in the descent into central dogma scene.
The moon? LOL! Source pls. Originally 05 - 13 are the Eva series....but now they gonna retcon 05 and 06 into something else. Man seriously selling merchandise this time. Can't say I'm immune to it. |
