my statement only true for 3.5" WD for single platter drive, not sure about seagate:

1) 160GB
2) 320GB (apply to drive come out from Sept 08 onwards)

though still need to be careful, due to transition of areal density, although the drive capacity is the same, but could have mixture of single platter and multiplatter in the market. If don't want to do any homework, 160GB drive is your best bet.

Got myself a WD Green 640GB yesterday. RM220.. Sounds good for the capacity vs pricing ratio. Anyone using it? The green 640 is different with the black/blue 640GB right?

1, Whats the diffrent between IDE and SATA2? 16mb ? 32mb? * my hdd socket its like 'L', so is it IDE?

2, Is hitachi HDD good? cuz my old HD was hitachi 320g , feel like getting same brand, does it cost more then other brand?

Your mobo should has 1 eide (for your PATA hdd) port which support 2 pata drive. Usually people use for not so new optical disk drive.

as mitodna said, pata you can see visible pin (on the hdd) and almost 2 inch wide while sata is horizontal L (less than 1 inch wide).

Someone in garage sales said that those lower capacity Caviar Black - 500GB version is already in stock but still waiting for the price to be release, is it true after some information said that the product will not be release in the Malaysia until some date? Anyone from the shop can confirm this? brows.gif

i guess i'm really having a bad luck of keeping my hard disks alive. all together there are 6 hard disks of mine crashes since 2005.

1) maxtor 2.5", 20gig - crashes for no reason
2) maxtor 3.5", 80gig - crashes after using partition magic
3) WD 2.5", 40gig - making a "tic...tic..tic" sound but not vibrating, not detected in xp, vista
4) WD 2.5", 250gig - cyclic redundancy error blah blah
5) Seagate 3.5", 160gig - i dunno what's the error, suddenly cant detect
6) WD 3.5", 320gig - i dunno what's the error, suddenly cant detect, cant initialize in hard disk management

and during these tragedies i suffered and mourning for all the data loss..

i've been trying my best in all my knowledge to fix all of them, all recovery softwares, consult few of my friends that are geek enough, but still unable to save them. and it's unfortunate all these accident happen right after the warranty expires.

sorry guys. I know someone else might have asked this question before.
My questions is where should I go for data recovery? I have a 160GB WD Notebook hard disk. Can't detect it on XP even though I tried to plug it into several different casing.

1. SATA2 uses lower consumption of electricity. Most new motherboard supports SATA.

2. I recommend u to buy seagate brand.
