HDD media size have settle down to 2.5" and 3.5", 1.8" probably only Toshiba is manufacturing those as of now.

IMHO, instead looking for 1.8", better spend on SSD.

The problem is that maybe thats why WD is the only one with 640g edition? How come other hdd makers like Seagate or etc dun have 640g?  hmm.gif

the main reason WD have 640G HDD is due to business strategy, imagine, you're paying 500G price but getting 640G capacity. Since I'm staying in Pg, if using PC Depot pricing, you find out the lowest cost per GB, 640GB drive is the most value for money.

It same as Seagate have 750GB drive where as WD don't have it.

if want best reliable HDD, go for HDD which only have single platter.

Single platter run cooler than those multiple platters drive, less vibration also...

my statement only true for 3.5" WD for single platter drive, not sure about seagate:

1) 160GB
2) 320GB (apply to drive come out from Sept 08 onwards)

though still need to be careful, due to transition of areal density, although the drive capacity is the same, but could have mixture of single platter and multiplatter in the market. If don't want to do any homework, 160GB drive is your best bet.
