ok, juz a quick question.
so conclusion, shall i get Biostar or Asrock?
coz now i've got P4 2.4Ghz (not sure Presscot or Northwood).....
aiming to setup HTPC which can run 720p mkv smoothly  tongue.gif
*
It's up to your decision. Biostar or Asrock both are low end mobo. If i choose,i would get Asrock rather than Bisotar.I think 2.4GHz proc is able to setup as HTPC as my current old school S423 is putting in living room as a HTPC too. It's good if you have amplifier + sound systems. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(Jcsy @ Jan 21 2009, 01:50 AM)
my rig also cannot handle certain 720p mkvs with 8000 bitrates or such

its a painful task while my new laptop can.. picture and audio tends to run.. well, using proper codecs is important as well but 720p movies are the dashit
*
Your rig can't handle? hmm.gif My current rig can handle 720p movies well. Between you may try Core AVC.

QUOTE(~Rogue~ @ Jan 21 2009, 02:59 AM)
guys, any good colling system to recon for my proc? coz i'm using the stock coller now, and is it wise to cahnge the GPU cooler also ?
*
If not going for o/c,it's fine to stay at stock coolers.

720p with 8k bitrates are okay, best to use it with CoreAVC

Surprised that most of the old S478 members are still here biggrin.gif Time has passed and I've moved on to an X2 already, and my trusty P4 rig handed down to my younger sibling.

P4 still rocks though, still able to play L4D flex.gif

Recently toned it down a little. I'm still on stock cooling for my proc, and the when the fan goes up to maximum RPM he whole casing and table starts to rattle... scary.

@Jcsy

For me, KMPlayer + coreAVC makes the miracle when I was still in P4 era. Still keeping the .mkv files that Edmin uploaded for testing purpose few thread ago, i think is last V4 or V5 if im mistaken. brows.gif

With my previous setup, 2GB RAM + 3.2Gh clocked to 3.6Ghz.. With and without coreAVC makes around 20-25% diff. Without coreAVC the CPU load is 95-100%, with coreAVC core load only around 70-85%.

u're MPC user too? biggrin.gif Anyways, got chance should give KMplayer a try. For me is greater then MPC and have much much more functions then MPC. Comes with build-in codec too. A worth one to try.

@colinwong89

I guess he runs on 3V is because of the BH5 chips. sweat.gif Seems like it's a bit over for the D43 chips. KM player?I will give a try on it later. Meanwhile Gong Xi Fa Cai to all members here. cheers.gif

@Ray

Haha... Thats danger for D43 man.. 2.95v is enough to kill it already. Not to say 3.05. shocking.gif

Oh yea, the kmplayer is from korea. A nice one for me.. Use it to player all sort of files without any external codec pack install. laugh.gif Currently only install coreAVC for better decoding for HD files.

Actually, I've ran those same D43 chips on 3.3v when I had my NF7, but I toned it down since the chips didn't require that much voltage. Anyway, it is stated in the specifications manual that 3.3v is the max voltage the chips can tolerate. biggrin.gif

Maybe he mean the specification table for the ram? laugh.gif

I have a question, is KM Player same like K-Lite Mega codec pack? I read the changes on the KM Player and it mention "New Codecs have been updated". Or this KM Player is just a stand-alone player without any codecs? hmm.gif
