Name of App: WinRemote

Price: USD$1.99

Compatibility to iPhone/iPod Touch: Both

Your own personal description of this App: Turn your device into a remote by just entering your IP address!

Pros:
1. eliminates the need of having a wireless mouse and keyboard (and also those so-called dodgy infrared hoax etc)
2. doesn't require any messy setting up or installation. you can simply activate it without the need of going to the PC
3. contains both mouse and keyboard
4. the speed of the mouse cursor can be adjusted

Cons:
1. highly dependent on wifi router strength
2. the movement might be impended if the traffic is heavy (for example, if you are downloading a heavy load)
3. unless you have bionic eyes, you might have troubles looking for the mouse cursor and seeing what you have just typed on the monitor.
4. the genuine apple's remote app works slightly better than this (but of course that only works for itunes)
5. only for windows users. macs can opt this out (though there are other apps available catered to both mac and windows. however i purchased this because it has the highest review ratings at the time of acquisition)

Personal User Rating: 8.5/10

Conclusion: i would definitely recommend this app if you love watching movies from the bed (like i do)

Cons:

Name of App: Real Soccer 09

Price: $9.99

Compatibility to iPhone/iPod Touch: Both

Graphics - Overall this game has to be one of the best on the iphone and the ipod touch.

Teams - Wow! There are well over 75 teams to choose from including world teams, British cup teams, and American league teams. You can change the teams colors and uniforms and there are legendary teams as well, including a game loft team.

Controls - Very simple and easy to control. Much like the gba emulator you have a arrow pad that you can use (this one works a lot better), you have an a button and a b button and that is it. You tap be for a light pass or hold it to do a long, lob of a pass. You hold A to shoot long and hard and you tap it to lightly shoot. On defense you tap b to steal the ball and press a to do a slide tackle (careful though, yellow cards and red cards are given out if you hit the player XD). You can also twirl your finger on the screen to do a spin move. There are other combination's as well. For penalty kicks and corner kicks you tap b and point which direction you want it to go. On throw in's you select who you want to pass to and you thrust the ipod forward to throw it in.

Game Modes - There are several game modes you can do. First is exhibition where you just choose your team and choose the team you want to play against. There is cup where you play for the cup. League where you play 30 games and try to come out first, penalty kicks where you practice, well, penalty kicks, training for training and their is a trophies room.

Sound - the sound for this game is great. When you score a goal it is yelled out "GGOAAAALLLLL!!!!." rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif I prefer to play with out the music because it takes a couple more milliseconds to load. You can listen to your own music as you play. "Prayer of a refugee" by Rise Against while playing soccer = amazing.

Loading - Fast. It takes no more then 2 seconds at a time to load. Thats all I will say.

Fun Factor - Fun, fun, fun, fun. I have had it for a while now and still play it when I'm bored. It is a lot of fun.

Over all - 9/10. My favorite game so far. A must "buy" for soccer fans and non-soccer fans a like. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Hi guys,

My first review. Hope to do more in the near future.

Pros:
+ If you like puzzles you'll like this
+ Really tests your creativity to arrange the available blocks into pre-defined shapes
+ Pleasant interface with attractive colours
+ Short and easy learning curve
+ Many puzzles! Currently 315 an they frequently update

I thought everyone should know about this game. It is basically a tower defence game in which u need to destroy all the fieldrunners from passing through the gate at the other side. You have a few towers to choose from and also u r recommended to do a maze in order to make use the towers. The graphic is excellent, but unfortunately no sound yet, it will be available soon via updates.

These are screenshots taken from the game by me:

This is by far my favorite game for Iphone. Not because of sheer fun and gameplay but because it is so addictive. It is so simplistic and yet so much fun.

The basic point of the game is to buy weapons and upgrade then to get to the highest wave. The waves of attackers come in several shapes and sizes ranging from little grunt soldiers to tanks, robots and planes.

The only downside that i can think of is that there's no gameplay music to create more intensity to this game. All in all this is great game and great value for money.

BUT BEWARE GUYS IT'S HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!!

NOTE: Before I start, this thread is just PERSONAL OPINION on games and applications I've tried. It's to help people who is yet to decide to pay for the game/application.

Reviews are only based on using my iPhone 2G firmware 2.1. If it doesn't work on your iTouch, don't blame me.

All screenshots are taken by myself. icon_rolleyes.gif

I will try my best to give it the most detailed reviews regarding the game/application that I'm gonna review.

Let's keep the reviews going. smile.gif

Developer : Gameloft
Categorie : Music Game

Pros : Both guitar and drums gameplay in one, superb graphic and sound quality, well known songs, many languages to choose from even chinese, keeps you entertain for hours because you'll go on and on to unlock new songs.
Cons : Price, takes quite long to load (From main menu to game it takes about 20 seconds, from selecting songs to game takes about 10 seconds), stability (Crash twice on me. According to Apple, you'll need to reboot your phone before playing to avoid crashes), can't download new songs.

Songs avaliable
Rock you like a hurricane by Scorpions
You really got me by Kinks
Heart shaped box by Nirvana
Message in a bottle by Police
Walk idiot walk by The Hives
The river by Good Charlotte
What's my age again? by Blink128
Smoke on the water by DeepPurple
Beat it - Micheal Jackson
The great escape by Boys like Girls
In the shadow by The Rasmus
If everyone cared by Nickleback

Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne
Honest mistake by The Bravery
Banquet by Bloc Party

Ratings
Graphics : 4/5
Sound Quality : 4/5
Gameplay : 4/5
Value for money : 3/5
Overall ratings : 4/5

Personal thoughts : If you really like playing music games like TapTap Revenge/NIN, this game is for you. Even though the price is quite heavy compare to other similar games, what made me purchase this game is because of the song choice avaliable for the game itself. Unlike TapTap or other similar games, Guitar Rock Tour chooses hits that you hear time to time on the radio. Who doesn't knows Micheal Jackson's Beat it? Or YouTube most viewed video in history Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend? I bet everyone does! Superb graphics with really good sound quality makes the game even more interesting. Feels even better if you put your earphones on. Might be abit laggy after leaving your phone on for days but it can be easily solved after rebooting your phone. Personally, I do not have any regrets playing USD7.99 for this game.

Pros : Good graphics and sound quality, very costomizable in the term of looks (from players outfit to the looks of the cue), adjustable angle and hight of potting makes you feel like you're in control of everything on the table, 2 players option avaliable so you can play with your friends.
Cons : Price, gameplay too short (About 15 person to beat before winning the whole game)

Rules
8 ball US - Pot either strips or solid color balls till there is no choice of pick on the table. Lastly, pot black to wrap up the game.
8 ball UK - Same concept with 8 ball US except instead of strip and solid, its either red or yellow.
9 ball - Pot ball 1 to 9 according to the numbers.
Challenge - In other words, its called trick shot.

Ratings
Graphics : 4/5
Sound Quality : 3.5/5
Gameplay : 3.5/5
Value for money : 2/5
Overall ratings : 3.5/5

Personal thoughts : Personally, i think this is 1 of the best pool game ever laid my hands on. Graphics and sound quality is solid, very costomizable and I have full control of the game. 1 thing that I'm really not sattisfied about is the short gameplay in the arcade mode. It just kept me entertained for 2 hours before I realize I've finished the game and there goes my USD$4.99. It would be wonderful of they make the game longer. Or even better if they make it multiplayer where you can challenge your friends via bluetooth. With that, I guess it's worth every cent.

But if you're a huge fan of pool, do check this game out if you have an extra buck as it's quite pricy.

Name of App: iXpenseIt (Ver 2.0.1 at the time of review)

Price: US$4.99

Compatibility to iPhone/iPod Touch: Both

Your own personal description of this App:

I went and tried all the expense management softwares on the iTunes Store and found this to be the best in my opinion. I wanted an application that I could easily log down my daily expenses and have a simple summary of what I had spent so far in a given month according to a set budget. iXpenseIt does this and more which I'll go through using the screen shots below.

user posted image

1. This is how the daily summary looks like. It tells you what you've spent in any given day and it also shows how you're doing in relation to your budget provided you actually have a budget. We will get to that in a bit.

user posted image

2. The amount of information that you can key in to describe your expenditure is more than sufficient as you can see. The application also lets you take a photo of presumably a receipt to attach to this record via the camera icon in the top left hand corner. You can if you like add custom categories + sub categories to suit your lifestyle. For example I added Vice>Cigarettes.

user posted image

3. Back to budget, iXpenseIt has 2 options to choose from which is the Simple Budget where you have a lump sum figure for all your expenses and the Detail Budget where you can do your budgeting according to the different areas of expenditure.

user posted image

4. There are also very nicely done summary features where you can view reports of your expenses in bar charts, pie charts or just in simple text category view. This information can of course be exported in CSV or HTML format via email which is integrated directly into the app. There are future plans to include a companion program on Windows/Mac with Sync features and so on which I think will be a very useful tool.

Pros:

> Basically all the features I've listed above.
> Clean, tasteful, simple design yet sophisticated in features.
> Easy to use.
> Customizable to suit your liking in terms of expense categories, display options and default entry options.
> The development team is fantastic as I can see. They are active, respond to problems and fix them in new releases.
> Support is also seemingly good as most of the bugs or suggestions for the app are responded to promptly as you can see bby going to their website forum.

Cons:

> No password feature yet.
> Not able to fully calculate multiple currencies yet. For example if your default currency is Ringgit (MYR) key in an expense in USD while traveling, it is possible to do so but the USD recorded will not show up in your reports.
> Currently can only track single accounts. Multiple accounts seem quite a far bit away.
> Still a lot of bugs to be ironed out.

Personal User Rating: 9/10

Conclusion:

There's still a lot of bugs to be worked out here and there but these are pretty small bugs in general. You can actually track all these problems at iXpenseIt's website forum if you are interested. As I am quite a basic user without the need to have complicated spreadsheets and what not, I have not run into any problems at all except for the currency bug I mentioned earlier.

I would have given this app 8/10 but because the development team seems to be making significant improvements along the way, I am giving a 9/10 rating as I know this will become a superb app if it is not already. You can give the app a test run first by trying the iXpenseIt Lite version.

Highly recommended for those looking to keep track of their basic expenses/budget. thumbup.gif Thumbs Up

My iPhone gets molested a lot by friends so I need to lock up my financial information. You can apply password protection to the iXpenseIt app (or any other app you want) by using the Lockdown app which you can find on Cydia if you have JB applied.

Name of App: Strategic Assault

Price: US$1.99

Compatibility to iPhone/iPod Touch: Both

Your own personal description of this App:

This is probably the only playable real-time strategy (RTS) game available at the moment on the iTunes Store. A Google search does turn up with Agile Forces being another RTS on this platform but I can't seem to be able to find it.

Now I mentioned Strategic Assault to be a 'playable' RTS but it is by no means enjoying. This game will remind you of the pixelated warfare adventures of your yesteryears such as the original Dune and Command & Conquer but think of it as an even more stripped down version of both the latter legendary games.

In Strategic Assault, you only get to play against only one enemy opponent. Resources are collected by capturing strategic buildings. Basically you only have 3 varieties of building markers (separated by 3 colours) which are your base, the enemy's base and the strategic buildings. There are basic buildings and military units such as tanks that you can build throughout the game. Military units can be grouped together via one of the 3 menu view options; the other 2 being the Radar view and Build view as you can see in the screen shots below.

The game itself plays pretty smoothly and a somewhat effective 2 finger slide motion is used for navigating the terrain. There's even a catchy classic sounding midi music playing in the background but unfortunately thats pretty much all it has going for it.

Pros:

> Non buggy application. Game play is pretty smooth.
> Sticks to the basics of RTS which works 'basically' well for what it is.
> Catchy background music? unsure.gif

Cons:

> Old skool pixelated graphics. Hardly a good use of our beautiful screens.
> Lack of challenging game play.
> No multi-player capabilities.
> Uninspiring game play experience.
> Nothing new.

Personal User Rating: 2/10

Conclusion:

There are a lot of improvements that can be made to make Strategic Assault a fantastic game but for the moment RTS fans will be sorely disappointed with the lack of challenge, lack of visual stimuli, lack of multi-player capability and pretty much lack of everything. As Strategic Assault is an old game originally found on the Windows Mobile pre-iPhone era, we shouldn't expect much improvements anytime soon.

The iPhone version of Warfare Incorporated will be coming out soon as the next RTS but whether that will be anything to shout for is yet to be seen. As it is though, Strategic Assault is just not worth spending money on.

1 thumb up for being one of the only (probably the only) RTS available. 2 thumbs down for everything else.
