Juz nw i went2 buy some hay
While searching for some fresh hay, a girl who work there approach me and ask me wat hamster i got
I said syrian and she asked hw old, and i answer 1year+
She then recommend me a brand, Kool Bunny timothy hay, its for hamster above 6months old according2 her
Since they hay looks fresh, i bought it

So my question, is there any different to feed different types of hay to hamster from different age????
As i knw those ppl who work at tat petshop always mislead ppl with their so call experienced info
While i buying i can hear 1of the worker convincing a customer2 buy a pair of syrian

Nevertheless, these are the contain of the hay
Crude protein 6%
Crude Fiber 32%
Moisture 13%

Advice?

Then the shopgirl is maybe correct. Is she gave u sort of advice on that? Just an advice based on my experience...let me share..

Timothy hay is good for hamster/GP/rabbit above 7months old thats mean older age. Good for teeth and bones.

Alfalfa hay is good for the young ones (pups) and pregnant hamster/GP/rabbit. Even for mother hamster too.

Any opinion?

I bought the zoozone lookalike tht Nezu showed also. thumbup.gif My hammy seem to love it. wub.gif Yesterday when I remove the top for cleaning, my hammy can reach the side and was climbing up the wall. Half of its body was out already. I freaked out cos thought it was going to escape. Now Hazel is a pro in climbing and escaping...

And then when I bought him a new 8.5" wheel, he dumped the old wheel immediately. He is like small kid trying out his new toy... LOL... I guess he has grown out of the small wheel already.

Whee~ I got a new wheel... nod.gif

Should i let it come out without hamster ball? Will the hammy dash away and hide?? sweat.gif

You can let your hammy roam around but make sure he is supervised at all time. Can easily catch syrians as they can't run as fast as robos laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

But better do it somewhere he can hide or easily escape. Also it can be easily clean in case he pee/poo somewhere sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

alfafa n timothy hay don't make much difference for hammi n gerbil. cos they don't really EAT it. 90% they will chew n make nest, unless the hay is really fresh like oxbow, they may eat it. smile.gif

no worries about what hay for them smile.gif

Is your female hamster having her heat? Usually during heat the female is smelly.

Also please do not wet bath your hamster. The hamster can get sick and die.

You can try using a damp cloth not wet cloth to wipe her instead. Only bathe your hamster as a last resort.

Does any1 knows where to buy milk powder for baby hamsters ? My hammie just gave birth to 4 babies, it's her 2nd litter. She wasn't feeding the babies much during her 1st litter n some died fr hunger. Even the 2 babies survived with 1 which was so small n skinny, died when it was 2 mths old.

So I think I better prepare some milk for the babies in case she is not feeding all of them now. Any1 know where to buy, how to feed ?

Thank you.

1 small carton of those milk for small animals is very expensive. Once opened, it need to be consumed with the day or else it will spoil.

Saw them in those big pet shops but that's a long time ago.

Anyway 2 months old the baby should have started eating solid food. Only the first 2 weeks they are dependent on their mom for the milk. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway my advice is to separate the male and female to prevent them from breeding again. Breeding will make the female have shorter lifespan due to the stress on her body and all.

Oxyfresh is a brand. Nezu asked you to try Oxyfresh Pet Deodorizer. You can add a bit to their water bottle for them to drink. Or you can add into the smoothie if you are feeding them smoothie.

http://www.oxyfresh.com/pet/deodorizer.asp

You can bathe the hamster but only as a last resort.

How big is your tank? You can use a small dogbowl as a toilet.
