QUOTE(Jamien @ Nov 9 2008, 12:53 AM) They can take one or 2 as a TREAT and only once in 2 weeks or so (that's how often I feed my hams with cat biscuits. 1 each every 2 weeks. tq Jamien....You need to feed them proper hamster dry food for staple food ok? Usually, how long will it take for a new hamster to get use to the new owner? feel sad my hamster so scared of me, won't even layan me when i offered food, and he ran and ran away from me...... oya...and a bonus question....how exactly do i tame them? |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Nov 9 2008, 04:57 PM) aeon, I agree with iluv2zz, just tae a spoon, rub it all over with the shavings in the cage, scoop it up and silently return it to the nest. But don't frighten the mum and try to do it without mum panicking and stuff. Even better if the mum doesn't notice. hmmm...mine is a syrian hamster...i call him Toph @odd_mochi: errr... Depends. I suggest you give your ham a few days to settle down in its new cage without being bothered. You just put it in an alien environment and it hasn't settles down. How fast you can tame it really depends on what breed it is. What kinda hamster is yours? It's a good chance you'll get frustrated but that's the downside of loving a pet. Love = Patience + Sacrifice. |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Nov 10 2008, 12:57 AM) Love=Patience+Sacrifice is the best theory that I use for all my pets. It works well. tq aaa...@Aeon: It depends on the mum. If she was stressed out for some reason she can start eating her kids. Just leave her alone with her kids. You really can't save them if she won't care for them. @odd_mochi: Syrians are easy to tame. The same as any breed, I use the bribe method. instead of chasing you ham, make him come to you. Put your palm on the shavings. Then put food at the tip of your fingers. Lay very still and eventually he will eat the food on your finger. After a few times, move the food higher up your fingers. Make him step on your hand to eat the food. Continue going higher and higher. Then finally, when he's used to climbing on your hand to eat, move your hand a little off the shavings. If he escapes, let him. Then try again with your hand on the shavings. He'll get used to some movements. Then he's tamed. Remember, give him lotsa patience, and understand that he is a hamster and you're much bigger than he is and he has many reasons to be afraid. put yourself in his foot. Toph as in the earth bender in avatar? |

QUOTE(Jamien @ Nov 11 2008, 07:36 PM) OMG cute!!! Ahhh~ Don't poison me la. I have Ferro and Roche dy. Your poison will make me unfaithful. cute leh... hhehhe Anyway, All my pets live in the living room, where all the guest go and the big TV is on till 11 at night. They all adapted well and is not concerned about the noise of company. @sophie: My ferro likes his staple but Roche prefers other stuff. Like fruits and vege and mealworms. So each with his own preference lo. My staple food already used a few months but not yet finish. Have to restock from Fluff next time though when I go and if they got sell Prestige. Should still have enough for 1 month. i have few questions here... 1) say i wan to umm...go somewhere by plane...is there any way i can bring my hamster onboard? been wandering for years...hehe.. 2) can hamster stand long road journeys? like....6hours drive for example? tq aaa....me not really experienced in these... |

QUOTE(jamince @ Nov 11 2008, 10:52 PM) my robos just gave birth to 3 babies.... i'm so 'gan jeong' i think the mom sure know how to take care of the babies... just have to leave her in a quieter place... give a lot of protein based food...must have enough food for her... wat shud i do? the male n female seems don't have any conflict, shud i still take it out? did the mother know how to feed her babies? the mother just 1st time gif birth Added on November 11, 2008, 11:10 pm QUOTE(blurjoey @ Nov 11 2008, 10:21 PM) 1) Don't think you be able to get pass customs let alone bringing on the plane. Don't think customs will allow to bring pet rodents onboard unless its cats and dogs (but some countries require permits to bring into the country). really? oh no.... 2) 3-4 hours max by car. Longer can cause the hamster to get stressed. Brought back 3 syrians from Penang to KL before. This post has been edited by odd_mochi: Nov 11 2008, 11:10 PM |

im asking this ques on my friend's behalf..... she's going to a place and goin2 stay there for 10wks... and she'd like to bring along her hammy..
problem is, the trip to the place takes 6hours to reach by road...blurjoey mentioned that max hours hamster can tolerate is 3-4hours... so is there really no choice but leave the hamster for some1 to take care of it? meaning...my friend can't bring along her hammy? or is there any other option? |

QUOTE(zulkis @ Nov 12 2008, 05:56 PM) Safwan, Habitrail antara jenama yg baik...i pernah cuba even dedak ayam pun aku cuba. Murah lagi.. sekilo RM2 aja. umm....if you guys read the earlier posts in this thread, you'll discover some posts saying habitrail food is not really a good choice as it has too much kuaci and dried corn...Recommended one is Prestige... from the 1st page of this thread oso got say prestige [800gm] + 1/4 britter bunny [250gm] is recommended... harry hamster is also one of the good choice...in order not to waste the habitrail that you have bought, you can mix it with either prestige/ harry hamster... these two are more expensive but it's worth it. the important thing here is the nutrients that our hamster get, not really on how cheap the food is... correct me if im wrong |
