If you are not sure what is your GPU an would like to know whether if its support Dxva. try Dxva checker.
http://bluesky23.hp.infoseek.co.jp/#DXVAChecker
screenshots: http://bluesky23.hp.infoseek.co.jp/dxvac/ss.html

if you dont see ModeH264_VLD_NoFGT of first tab, your graphic card does not work witj mpc-hc h264 Dxva decoder, only software mode.

Encoding video using GPU only work if your GPU is HD4000 series.

It shows ModeH264_VLD_NoFGT when checking my HD2400 low profile GC. But when follow the instruction on the below link and play 1080p content with subtitles, the scene not seems quite smooth.

For 1080p, I use VMR9 (renderless) instead of EVR, which the result CPU do the encoding.
I revert back using EVR Custom Preset for 720p. Results, smooth playback with subtitles

Yup, start from ATi HD2000 series GPU, will support H264 VLD NoFGT, which GPU does all the decoding stuff.

Well i think i mentioned before,
Dxva on Vista only work with EVR and EVR Custom Presenter,
while for XP, Dxva only work with Overlay Mixer, VMR 7/9/Windowed/Renderless mode.

if you use the wrong combination, eg your OS is vista but you are not using EVR,
mpc h264 dxva decoder will fallback to software mode, which CPU will all the decoding work,

If you are using VMR7/9 Renderless or EVR Custom Presenter,
press CTRL + J
and you will see the OSD with verbose of information:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I test Bolt 1080p BluRay Rip movie using EVR Custom Presenter (using vista), enable lock back buffer 3, auto-load subs and it seems there's a huge framerate freeze.

But when analyse another 1080p movies, the framerate output are different, less framerate freeze and i believe it depends on the screen size.

Based from what I've seen on the graph, when the frame went slow, the graph drops below the thick blue line and max jitter getting higher.

Oh, thank you. Now I'm able to view 1080p content smoothly. All this while, I depend a lot on built-in player inside K-Lite Codec pack. biggrin.gif

if your media is mainly avi and mkv, codec pack is not needed for playback. MPC-HC is sufficient.

K-Lite Codec pack should be more capable than CCCP, they update their MPC-HC version to the latest build every two weeks or so, compared to CCCP where updates take forever.

I don't have any videos capable of DXVA anyway sweat.gif , so software mode all the way for me.

I suggest using codec packs btw, unless you're good enough to compile(you'll need a bunch of softwares).

It doesnt matter if your OS 32bit or x64,
as long as your OS is Windows XP and above, with proper hardware, proper video player plus codecs and your video file is Dxva compliant,
Then the hardware acceleration will work without problem.
