If it is not a Windows Mobile OS or Symbian OS, then u can only use Google Map, and I dont think external GPS works for it.

Can I ask,
- If I have a Symbian OS phone and installed with Garmin software, then I would not have to pay any data charge for GPS realtime direction?
- Are all Nokia phones using A-GPS or specific chipset (eg SIRF-III) for GPS positioning?

Wth GArmin GMXT - no need 100% free except for the intial purchase of the Garmin MXT SD card

Not sure any nokia using SIRFIII but I doubt so...bcos nowadays lotsa of manufacturer run away from SIRFIII to cheaper option of MTK & Nokia noramally on AGPS..dunno what chipset. SIRF III still the best amateur based GPSr in the market wth superior reception but not so good in battery life compare to MTK.

Anyone of you are using Mapking R12(Chinese version originally from N95)? I do have 3 GPS software install on my N82(Nokia Map-never use, GarminXT-prefer, Mapking-Try to use it). I downloaded the latest Mapking map and able to view the map and navigate to the place in my favorite but got some problem when entering road name which it will shutdown by itself..Anybody have this experience on using Mapking R12 on your Nokia phone?

U probably want to choose shortest route rather than Highway in Garmin....The problem in Nokia maps is lotsa new area not in the maps..and thus u can't navigate there.

How much u pay on monthly navigation using nokiamaps? Last time I paid RM38 for a mth. hmm.gif

Depending if u willing to pay or u want 100%free...Nokia maps naviagtion is not free...subscription is at RM38/mth ~6mth ago..not sure now.

Using Garmin & Mapking, u need to buy the software initially & thereafter the maps is downloadeable from malsingmaps.com (Garmin + Mapking) or malfreemaps.com (Only Garmin version)

The devices are very subjective...any phone/pda phone with built=in GPS receiver will do OR any Symbian or windows mobiles devices without built-in but no problem pairing wth ext BT GPS receiver.

There are pro & con on each phone & PDA..very difficult to compare...just choose the one up to your budget. I'm using both PDA & Nokia for navigation i.e:

Asus P535 I'm using Garmin Que & Mapking. Garmin Que/GPS proxy for tracking &
Nokia N78 wth Garmin MXT/Nokia maps for navigation.

So it's up to your budget & what u really like...I choose Asus bcos of it's SIRFIII chipset & also the speed 520mhz. & reasoneable at the point of time (Not now-lah), & Nokia N78 bcos it's the cheapest inbuilt GPSR wth WIFIO, 3.5G connection

GPS is free because the satellites above earth doesnt own by malaysian telco. A-GPS another name Assist GPS connect to your mobile provider to improve time to lock on the satellite because it provider the area you are at.

If u off a-gps and use GPS its totally FREE
