Since this is a Handphone and Telecommunication section, I will be providing details related to handphone only, no detailed GPS explanation will be included. This FAQ is not fully written by me and I copy, edit and compile them for easy reference by LYN member. Tutorials are written by me. Anyone can feel free to post question and find any error made by me and I will get the FAQ updated.

hey guys! I have a few noob questions about GPS. So i did a little googling about GPS in Malaysia and found sites like malsingmaps and malfreemaps that provide map downloads for Garmin GPS. So are all Garmin models compatible with the maps downloaded from there?
Is it possible if, let's say, a Garmin nuvi 1300LM is bought from overseas, and then a map downloaded from malfreemaps is installed in it?

thanks, that's great news! Is there any way to know if a model has junction view? I'm considering between 1350T and 2300LM. Does the lifetime maps or traffic feature play a part in the M'sian map?

only if u purchase at malaysia, aeco unit, only have junction view for malaysia/singapore map . else if u bought at other country u only enjoy the jcv for their map not malaysia pls take noted, same as malaysia unit, if u take malaysia garmin gps to europe etc, that's no junction view, due to each country have a special firmware .

People please help me. My brother won a GPS
from TouchNGo and gave me as a birthday
present. All nice and despite the Instruction Manual being crap, I managed to get to
use the GPS despite having experience from my iphone app only

I am wondering if I can use the Video and media function of my GPS as
the software seems to be there. I can't seem to see the GPS drive on my laptop.
Alternatively, I am wondering if I can use a sd card reader to transfer the files from
laptop to sd card so that I can play on my GPS. Appreciate any advice

Thank you
Simon

I think Garmin M'sia really needs to look into better customer service. Here's my experience:
1. Walked into the Garmin store on the ground floor of Digi Mall Sect 14 (the one opposite kopitiam). Asked if they have nuvi 2465. The skinny guy was so damn rude, he talked to me while facing his computer, didn't even look up to talk to customers. Gave a price, RM650, no discount, take it or leave it attitude. I stormed off, cos he wasn't even willing to explain the features, no bargaining etc.

2. I walked up to All IT at the highest floor of Digi Mall. Browsed around and was surprised, they sell Garmin, too. They didn't have the unit I wanted but a higher end model 2565, which had larger 5" screen. After discount, he gave me RM650, same price as 2465. I bought it immediately and paid cash. At least, the guy gave some service, let me touch and feel etc.

Summary: I would advise all Garmin buyers to avoid the Garmin shop at ground floor. Especially the rude skinny guy.

No the satellite is provided by the US govt. smile.gif

I think you can buy them from Garmin website. May cost USD100 and reason why I stick to Nokia with their free maps for overseas usage.
