Thanks for the information.

I am now waiting for my Visa Letter from my University, to apply my Visa. Hopefully everything can be done before August as my flight is on the 16th of August.

Heard that toilet rolls are more expensive there, if I have extra space, should I get some rolls over?  laugh.gif
*
Just bring 1 roll or some tissue for emergency purpose, spare the space and weight for something else...

The price of toilet roll is depends on the quality, but it cost me around GBP 2.70 for 6 roll of average quality Toilet Tissue (you can't even get a set of lunch from burger king with this price)... smile.gif so it won't cost you much....

you can take a look at Mark and Spencer's http://www.marksandspencer.com website for a rough idea of the price for decent quality winter cloth..

Ok, thanks for the information.

For my travel on 16th of August, my consultant says, the High Commission might not grant me a Student Visa, as I am going quite early, so if that happens, I will need to reenter UK. What country is the most affordable to travel to, and reenter UK after that?
*
I just checked the price of the toilet roll in Aldi (a germany brand supermarket here), the price vary from GBP 0.22 each to GBP 0.47 and will be more expensive if you want those with nice looking pattern and perfume. but you could easily get cheaper deal if you buy the 6 ~ 12 roll pack.

my goodness, you should save ur space and weight on others stuff like milo, herbs or anythings which can't get/very expensive.. duvet you can easily get at tesco/wikinson.. it's only cost 4-10 quids(depends on quality)... besides you can't survive with your thick blanket during winter time, you will freeze to dead if you are using thick blanket. especially Newcastle is lots more cold compare to london ...
The NHS system here is terrible eg: you have to make appointment and might have to wait up to 1 week time before the GP is free to see you. And the medicine/prescription is expensive. So it is important not to get sick smile.gif

*****RENEWING UK VISA*****

Guys, I previously had a UK Visa for 2 years, and now I have completed my degree and my visa is coming to a due. I am going back to UK this september again for another course (BARVOCATIONALcourse)

So how do I renew my UK Visa for another year ? Do I have to go through all the troubles when I first apply for a UK visa ? Can anyone guide me on this ...?
*
QUOTE(youngkies @ Jul 3 2009, 07:41 PM)
i am afraid you have to go through as fresh application.
*
Hi,

You mean we can only apply for a "new" student visa in Malaysia, not extending the "old" one? blink.gif

extending student visa while in UK is a headahe also...need to fill in the 55 pages application form and make no mistake rclxub.gif

blu3_apple said "another course", which implies a new series of studies. that would mean a new visa application which would start immediately when the last one ends.

the visa extension is usually when one is continuing under the same course. i've renewed my visa once, and it didnt take a 55 page application, but more like 5 pages. the only headache is the GBP400 charge.
*
thanks for the reply smile.gif

QUOTE(liew_jls @ Jul 4 2009, 05:18 AM)
no, actually you can extend your old student visa but you still need to pay the same amount money as new application and probably fill in different form(if i'm not mistaken).
haha.. welcome to UK systems.. azarimy is right, the ££ is the headache when you are trying to extend your student visa just for few months. when you try to calculate, it's not worth it unless you really need it..  otherwise if you need the few months to wait for graduation ceremony then u just forget it. you can always use tourist visa and attend your graduation ceremony.

the systems has changed.. last time i went back to malaysia for my psw, the form was only 4-5 pages but in UK there's 50pages++... some more changes is double.. if i did psw in uk, i sure sakit hati.. double man, it's already half of my flight ticket.. hahah..
*
It cost more for processing 50 pages ++ application, so someone has to pay for it sweat.gif ....I decide to give up on attending the graduation ceremony... it worth more for me to give my mum that opportunity to go UK for vacation smile.gif

do you have any luck looking for job at this very crucial moment?

I might be in the same situation.

I have purchased my ticket for 16th of August, and my course is starting on 11th of September.

You were saying the Visa Validity is up to one month before the course started? Meaning I can go earliest by 11th of August? I am quite safe?
*
It is up to the High Commission to decide how long they want your visa to be... sweat.gif

There is a column in the visa application form which ask when you expect to reach UK......eg: I fill in 18 September, of course they won't grant me a date which is earlier than that smile.gif

In your case, you can put 16th of August or earlier in that column...

Since you already booked your air ticket, then I suggest you apply for your student visa as soon as possible...so you will have plenty of time to make adjustment if required smile.gif

I put the date 16th August, and have applied on the 8th of July (Wednesday).

Let's say they grant me a later date for my visa, what should I do? Can I travel there 1st using Tourist Visa, and then re-enter UK after going to France? Or I have to come back to Malaysia?

Or I have to purchase another flight ticket to go there at a later date?
*
If you are unlucky, you have to call up your consultant for advise and make sure you get 100% confirmation before you depart on 16 August...... smile.gif

My left fingers are fine, but my right fingers have lost almost all of the fingerprint due to some sort of eczema  cry.gif The lady inside the room who was in-charge to take the photo and biometric fingerprint had to take my prints twice, having lots of trouble with my right fingerprints in the process. I pressed my fingers hard against the fingerprint device so hard it hurts XD. Anyhow, in the end it appears i passed the fingerprinting parts, the lady mentioned i need a letter from doctor to verify i have problems with my fingerprints when i reach uk tho.

*
My situation is even worse, I left 2 fingers with nice looking fingerprint due to unknown reason....I might end up with no fingerprint if it turns bad again...

I think it is time for me to see the doctor sad.gif

You can check out the link for of carphone warehouse for more information,

if you are going for contract phone, please bring your old handphone with you first, because some shop may wants you to have certain level of credit history or pay deposit before they can grant you the contract..which takes time. smile.gif

Sorry for asking this but I need to confirm...

Can one apply to UK universities using STPM results? I was thinking of applying to Imperial but I can't find the necessary requirements for international students. The only requirements stated in their website are A-levels and IB... Please clarify for me...

Thanks!

Just submit your application, there is no harm since they do not ask for admission fees. smile.gif

If you are worry, then try and send their admission officer an email for inquiry laugh.gif

Or send MABECS an email http://www.mabecs.com/contact.htm for free advise

Hi All,

I have a question.

Some people said the Ink catridges from Malaysia WILL NOT work on printers purchased in Ireland. There is some sort of "region-code" worked into the ink
catridges. (They encountered this problem when they get the printer from Argos, and the ink from Malaysia).

Does this problems applied to the combination of printer in UK and Ink catridges from Malaysia as well? blink.gif

another option you can consider is to leave uk to some country nearby, and come back as a visitor. but you may have to do a lot of explanation then. just say that you've just finished your study (your visa ends on last day of school) and decided to come back to UK to visit for one last time and settle your bank/accommodation etc etc stuff before you leave UK for good in mid-sept. a return ticket back to malaysia would be a good proof that you will be returning to msia for sure too. shouldn't be a problem, and better than risking of overstaying.
*
In addition, it cost GBP 3xx for extending your visa. So you might as well use the $$ for few days trip outside UK then come back again smile.gif

p/s: Also, the application form for student visa extension is 55 pages sweat.gif

Anyone knows how to switch from HSBC Passport Account to other current accounts offer by HSBC after the 1 year contract?

I went to their branch for enquiry, but the staff doesn't seems to know anything about the HSBC Passport Account conversion.

She just told me to wait and the account will be converted automatically, which is untrue. sad.gif
