You can just go to the counter of any bank and ask for exchange, you do not need to be their customer...

If they refuse to change for you, you can try other banks smile.gif

What happen if I buy things from Amazon/currys digital and I am not around when the parcel arrive? Will they deliver to the nearest post office and drop me a card?

Because the current place which I am staying do not sign off for parcel, and it is hard for me to sit at home 24/7 waiting for the parcel to arrive sad.gif

usually they will drop you a card to ask you pick up at the nearest post office or call them for 2nd delivery time (sometimes 2nd time delivery, you can check with around what time they will come).

I had make an order using my debit card online and I cancel it later on, so the retailer did not take a single pence from my account and they are not in the position of doing so.

But HSBC said that any debit card transaction cannot be cancelled after the payment is being authorized, therefore they "reserved" my money waiting for the payment which does not exist and they said this instruction will not be expired. It is outside their control to help me in this matter

So now even though the money is still in my account, but I am not allowed to withdraw or move it. Do you guys know what I can do in this situation? sad.gif

As long as the retailer confirmed that they had cancelled the payment, it'll be fine.  It takes time for the transaction to be cancelled on your card.  Usually about 1 to 2 working days.

thanks for your reply T-T, I am so worry that I cannot get the money back. By the way, the retailer was "Borders" smile.gif

I am praying that they will confirmed with the bank that they cancelled the payment. I had give "Borders" a call, they said is my problem so refuse to help cry.gif

?

Your problem?  How did you make the transaction, was it online or?

"Borders" had confirmed that the order had been cancelled. But HSBC is still "reserving" the money for the payment of this order. sad.gif

I have no idea whether "Borders" will notify my bank that this transaction do not exist or not, because to them, they had only request for authorization and did not take any $$

p/s: do you mean that it is impossible for me to get back the $$ if I order online?

probably you personally go to the branch to check it out. sometimes, if you call to the customer service, they don't know much about it. just throw all the question to the bank, i'm sure they will give you some solution. if they still don't give you any good answer, make a complain on the bank. lol.. this is wat i usually do..

but in my opinion, you should use your money in next few working days. coz the borders is not going to take your money.

Hi liew_jls,

It is very kind of you for the reply. I will wait for few working days first in this case, bcoz there is nothing I can do right now.

below is the reply from HSBC with regards to my matter

QUOTE
I notice that there is a transaction of GBP xxx.xx on 1 October 2009 that has been authorised but yet to be claimed by the retailer.

Please be advised that when a Maestro transaction is taken, it is up to the retailer to present this to your account. Most retailers do so immediately, but there is nothing to prevent them from holding on to the transaction and presenting it days, weeks, or months later. This, I regret is outside our control.

There is no expiry date for a Maestro payment, once the authority has been taken.
I think the word "presenting" in this email is like what Geminist said the retailer will confirmed with my bank that they had cancelled the payment

As long as you have a receipt from Borders saying that your transaction has been cancelled, then it should be fine.  Just give it a few working days.  The reason banks can't do anything is because they obviously want to avoid customer cancelling the transaction once they received the goods etc.

i had a similar problem when paying my uni fees using my debit card. i called up hsbc premier hotline n they told me the same thing about the money being held in reserved for the uni to accept. then after talking to a bunch of people at my uni and the bank, an officer finally said he can reverse the payment and put back the money into my account. but he told me the uni can still take out the money if they ever chose to do so.

Hi Geminist and s3r^ph,

Thanks again, this thing made me feel so hopeless today smile.gif

Lebara is pretty cheap when we use it to SMS/call to Malaysia, but do the people back in Malaysia we called/SMS need to pay when they pick up the phone or open our SMS? blink.gif

So altogether one form to fill up right? which is the VAF 9.

And these are the checklists that i should follow right?

Hi,

Do you guys register with your own NHS dentist? I was given a list of nearby dental clinic by my university, but I checked and most of the ones at the city central are full, only left those located in the middle of nowhere. Therefore, I have to travel up to 1 hour time to get my own NHS dentist sad.gif

There is a Dental Hospital near to my place where NHS patient could receive free dental treatment from student dentist, but I was told that the waiting list could be up to 2 months long blink.gif
