Exploding PSU, what PSU was it? ST50F, I used this in my rig before. It worked out fine. No noise like my Huntkey. 500W pawning 550W lol. Since ST56F is the bigger brother, I think it should work out fine for a single 4850. Crossfire no idea. This post has been edited by celciuz : Oct 4 2008, 06:56 PM

4850 will thrash 9800GT. Better comparison would be 4850 versus 9800GTX, but price tag. Err...

http://en.hardspell.com/doc/showcont.asp?news_id=3807 to make u feel more confident on 4850
. Frankly, they aren't on the same generation. 4850 was meant to compete with GTX260 (although price gap is there..).

9800GT is almost same as 8800GT but 9800GT is slower in term of performance....better got for ATI4850... if you consider the technology....ATI4850 has all the newest things like DirectX...Shades..This post has been edited by jimmy_none : Oct 4 2008, 07:28 PM

well more memory is used on the high resolution.
but from several review about the card that use 1gb of memory like the 8800gt and 9600gt the 1gb model is actually slower.
is it the same case with ATi's cards?
well i hope i can c the benchies on the 4870 1GB soon...
it's rly hard to decide whether jz to purchase 512 or 1GB...

I think those 1GB slower because they are using slower memory. Maybe 0.8ns versus 1.0ns to reduce cost?

4870 1GB uses a lot more wattage than 4870 512mb? IMO almost the same la for the wattage, plus or minus a bit only.

If you are comparing HD4870 512MB and HD4870 1GB power consumption,
1GB version only consume ~0.5 watt more than 512MB version at idle,
while ~0.5 watts more at load (according to the benchmark).
edit : the watts

i'm actually comparing it to my 3870 here...
as for these 2 versions, it's not tat much a diff, seeing the extra juice it can pump out
