ok, TS, you go for Vista, you regret forever. Vista is the worst OS Microsoft has ever released to date after Windows ME.

Don't belive me? Just go youtube and type in 'Vista' then you can see everyone ranting about Vista and BSOD while gamming.

I tolerated with Vista for less than 1 month. I'm actually very patient because I bought original copy but just couldn't take anymore crap.

what's the point of Vista when you can run your games at least 40% faster on XP or other platforms. So you spend 40% more on your hardware upgrades + the CD package just for the DX10??? Justifiable? Hell no to me.

ok, all you Vista owners out there... have you ever got a BSOD when you halfway into the game and never saved your game

I get that like so freaking often I totally gave up on Vista.

By the way, my specs were like so good back then...

For me, I'd rather use Ubuntu if it's not for gaming but I like gaming too so I'm sticking with XP for now.

The only advantage Vista has over XP for gaming is DX10 and that's it. The rest are all burdens you may carry

1 - Go google "Project Mojave". Nuff said
2 - Vista is better than XP in many ways. Out of the box it's more secure. It has better RAM management (on par with all UNIX system) and it was built with backward compatibility in mind
3 - Show me what game runs 40% faster than XP? I tested many games (I dual boot my system), and honestly, using the same setting I lost only 2~3 FPS. That does not count for 40%. Many sites exaggerates. And you tend to believe that.
4 - Never had a BSOD caused by the OS itself. The only BSOD i got was when my friend stupidly taken out my HDD without waiting for the PC to fully shut down. Thankfully vista's file management is better than any other Windows OS that my data survived and none corrupted. I want to ask you back, ever seen the "Cycle error reduncency check" in Vista? no? serve my point then
5 - Go read this http://www.tweakguides.com/VA_1.html

Just because YOU have a problem with it don't mean that everyone has. Majority of Vista users are happy with the OS. Only the minorities that overhyped it, and on the internet, the minority can seem like a majority when they use FUD to prove their point.

so far so good. people complain slow but I'm using it on my X2 3600+ (yes, i downgraded........... for office / design usage only la. my E7200 is for gaming) and it is still fast!

word. I personally tested it with GTX280 and 9800GT and now on HD3200 - works fine!

the resource taken isn't so great until it hurts your gaming.

so yeah, my word for Vista here.

word icon_rolleyes.gif people exaggerate Vista. sure, there are problems like USB recognition and stuff but it's not on all hardware *touchwood* and computer gaming seems fine on it.

Vista has a new audio architecture which is an improvement over the old one (individual volume adjustment for individual programs for example)....

older games may have audio issues, but Creative has a program to 'upgrade' them to Vista level. Its called Alchemy...
However it only comes free if u own one of their X-Fi sound cards, else u gotta buy the software separately...

i just like to point out that this incompatibility is due to an IMPROVEMENT and not a reason it sucks...

it's awesome, and yup i had BSOD before but that was coz of bad driver, now ironed out nicely already.. smile.gif

Not the volume actually. Just that my mic isn't working properly when jack in. I can hear my own voice coming out from the headphone instead of other people hear.

1 - There is NO SP2, just SP1
2 - OEM = 1 licence tied to one PC. Once you install it to that PC, you cannot install it to any other PC
Retail = 1 licence tied to multiple PC. Depending on what kind of license you buy, you can install it on more than one PC, bar that you can only install it on one PC at any given time

I used to always get BSOD wen i was using Tiny Vista. yes, it's a tweak version for slower computers.

After i upgraded to Vista Ultimate SP1 i hardly get BSOD anymore.

Vista doesn't only have the advantage of having DX10, Vista has improved many windows based functions, for example, Windows Search.
It's much faster comparing to XP.

Well' if you're a die hard XP fan then good for you. But do give Vista SP1 a try someday.

Currently im using XP SP3 because one online game i play doesn't support Vista.

I had a few BSOD with Vista.

The cause of BSOD is because of my failing hard disk.Nothing to do with the OS itself.

Hope no more BSODs.

I think if you get BSODs.It's probably bad drivers or something is really really wrong with your hardware.

Games, most of them runs fine on Vista.

QUOTE(CyberTroop @ Sep 1 2008, 12:39 AM)
Greetings to the community of Windows Vista users, I am planning to get an original copy of Windows Vista to upgrade my current Windows XP on my computer.

Here's the thing, I'm a hardcore gaming frenzy which plays all games old and new at the highest settings.

I was hoping to get some advice from the experience Window Vista users, how does the games old and new runs on Windows Vista, does it increase the fps with the latest features or will it spew out many problems like what i heard from other people.

Is it recommended for me to upgrade to Window Vista to play the latest games or just stick with Window XP.

I really appreciate the time reading my post.

Thank you.

Why you said so?
Proof why we should use XP when Vista is better for Gaming.
Just a few difference of FPS doesnt affect your gaming.
Personally i bashed Vista before but when i used it,I'm loving it.

HAHAHA...Go for Vista TS, dont even bother what all of this stupid Vista-basher...but 1st thing you must do after the installation is activate first, then run windows update..run at least 3 times windows update after your fresh installation coz there are many update need your PC to be restarted..this is to ensure you're not missing any latest update

Hahaha...everytime I found this kind of debate, it really amuse me. Vista already mature la. No longer half bake product as it use to be. Last year vista will gave your tonnes of problems but not entirely OS fault. Poor driver optimization, lack of support from 3rd party application provider and the list goes on. It happen everytime Microsoft change their major OS...but XP might doesn't suffer much because at the moment it was released, Win2000 (which the base of XP code) already released a year.

I am using vista since October last year. I hate vista at that moment but still insist to use it for the sake of knowledge and work requirement. But now, Vista is my primary OS. Vista 64 for lappy, Vista 32 for PC (only got 2 GB of rams for my PC ...huhuhu).

BSOD when gaming? Never. I always practice install stable release of driver, not beta one.

BSOD since SP1 release? yes, couple of occasion but that is perfectly normal right, when you never restart your OS for months. Only sleep and resume. I rate it as very stable.

Performance Penalty? That is last year story la kawan. All new application and drivers already optimize for Vista. Me and my blog members, we test Acer 4530 performance using 3DMark 2006...my vista score a bit higher than his XP score. Both got 4 GB of rams. So, I believe no more performance issue for Vista anymore.

If 3DMark06 could produce a little bit better result in vista, so, any games from that era should run fine in Vista. Only certain game such as CnC General, I can't play it as smooth as in XP (1 vs 7, brutal).

Direct X 10 worth or not? For gamers (if you dare to call yourself hardcore gamers), DX10 is a must. Previously I use 8600GT so, I can't really enjoy the real benefit of dx10 (especially for Games for Windows logo games). But after upgrade to 4850, oh dear. I love DX10 at every single side.

However, if your computer is single core, 2006 graphic card (mainstream) technology and less than 1 GB of RAMs, stay away from vista for gaming. But, if you have last year 3dcard or better, with 2 core (even pentium dual core will do) and at least 2 GB of rams, Vista will do wonders for your gaming experience.

++++++

The funny thing is....most of the people I found (in real life) who bash vista are the one who never use Vista long enough or never use it at all. They just to love to bash it because other said so (Echo Syndrome). All PCs and lappy in my home use Vista, and my wife never complain or bash it. In fact, when I ask her, which one you prefer, Vista of XP...she said Vista. I ask her why? Easier to be used and pretty.

Come on la XP freak, next year when Windows 7 release, it will be base on Vista code also. If vista code is so terrible, how come Microsoft will use Vista code for Windows Server 2008 (read : Vista SP1).

Take this one...if a lot of actual vista owners said that their vista work fine, good in performance, secure and stable.... how come you could say vista sux, BSOD all the time...yada yada yada. It is either your seriously ahem 'don't know' how to properly setup and maintain your PC (with Vista), never use, rarely use or simply lack of knowledge in vista.

We are not fanboy. We are the user who felt the misconception of Vista need to be corrected because Vista worth it. If XP is better than Vista, why should we use Vista? I hove both Vista and XP license...but still choose Vista over XP.

He is hardcore gamer (ultra high setting at old and new title), of course la his gaming rig 1000 times better than me...and base on that reason alone, I full heartedly recommend Vista for thread starter.

Gaming with Vista seems fine , no issues just some minor drawbacks and I hate the whole visual experince (maybe I am too used to OSX and Compiz). I used to bash Vista , but after using it for my media center. Fell in love with Windows Media Center for Vista. Plays HD Content fine , records my ASTRO shows and it just does a great job.

Minor issues - You can't help it

To run Vista , you just need a 21st Century PC. If you can't afford or not willing to fork out money , remain with XP or better yet DIY with some linux distro such as ubuntu. The only disadvantage I would say is that I lost the EAX Functionality on my Creative Audigy with Windows Vista. But bah , thats just one !

Oh yeah , I can even run games which were designed for Windows 95 in Vista. No issues or what-so-ever , especially after installing SP1 !
