Harmoinic by Philm

"Harmonic", the debut album from PHILM — the Los Angeles-based experimental post-hardcore triumvirate featuring drummer Dave Lombardo (SLAYER), guitarist/vocalist Gerry Nestler (CIVIL DEFIANCE), and bassist Pancho Tomaselli (WAR) — is available for streaming in its entirety.

QUOTE
"When people hear about my involvement in PHILM, they automatically assume that it will compare to SLAYER's sound," explains Lombardo. "They couldn't be more different. I have scaled down my drum set to a four-piece, reminiscent of the drummers from the late '60s that influenced me. Each song is unique in itself, I like to refer to it as 'rhythmic emotion.' It's almost like taking all the heavy songs of the '60s and bringing that era to a modern plateau, then blending them with the modern trance and psychedelic sounds of today."

"We decided to record 'Harmonic' in the intimate setting of a home, with various vintage recording equipment," says Lombardo on the band's debut album. "The music was written collectively in an improvisational manner, unlike the majority of recordings I've done before. This was very important given this is my first recording where I'm carrying the title of producer and performer. The album achieves a dense, unholy convergence of tones and discords. We also touch on haunting, desolate, ambient sounds. Our music tends to be written in a manner where we never know the outcome until we listen back to what we recorded. A harmonic journey."

While there are elements of metal detected throughout PHILM's sound, the band manages to also incorporate such other styles as jazz, ambient, hardcore punk, experimental, and funk into its unpredictable, cacophony-heavy style. An obvious reason for this multi-genre amalgamation can be directly linked to the gentlemen that play alongside Lombardo in PHILM — Tomaselli is a longtime member of funk rockers WAR, and Nestler fronts prog metallists CIVIL DEFIANCE. Add it all up, and you get the wonderful world of PHILM.

^ Peter Wildoer is currently a drummer and backing vocalist for LaBrie's solo project. Do check out LaBrie's solo albums.

Just an update. For those of you who have nothing to do on that date.

we have the reputation of turning away metal bands. mb thats y. come on, RHCP (just an example, they of cuz aint metal) wanting to come here but gomen don allow Flea / AK to perform without clothes on or something (rumors?)..

either they can come in by staging a low profile show (megadeth, mana boleh.. sure gempak) or go thru US embassy la ahahah

correct me if i am wrong about the above.

patiently waiting for more details.

ahh.. saw Anthrax.. now Megadeth (missed them and DIO when they were here in SG due to work commitment in Shanghai then. bummer)..

now.. LAMC should bring Metallica (i heard they tried but its too expensive.. again, rumors perhaps) and Slayer!!

Megadeth is banned in Malaysia since 2001 due to black metal issue back then, supposed to tour here to promote their album at that time. This is no doubt influence other big name act and organizer. They would think 1000 times and the risks before brought them here. But what about Arch Enemy? What's their secret?

SKYNET Release Debut EP As FREE Download

QUOTE
Skynet, the next big metal act to come out of Hamilton. With the hype off their debut video "Deception", the boys from Skynet went to Plain City, Ohio to record their debut 6 song EP with Dan Smoldt at URC Studios, and guitarist Adrian Levasseur as producer. They entered the studio drunk, and without distraction, to deliver the most raw and brutal album possible. Straight Reads the Line alumni Blake Prince and Adrian Levasseur’s songwriting shine over this album. Talented is something that more than describes Pete Chernets and Fraser Stephenson, their technical skill will astound and atrophy. Skynet’s debut EP will make you listen again and harder. They are ready to wreck your city on the Blind Witness' farewell tour and continue to rule the road this summer/fall.

Old school thrash metal! Try it, for free.

QUOTE
Biography

Hailing from the central region of Portugal, Terror Empire was formed in 2009 and displays afurious and calculated brand of thrash metal. It all started when Against – the former band of Ricardo Martins (vocals), Rui Alexandre (guitar) and Rui Puga (bass) – came to an end. Unconvinced that their musical path had ended with it, they got in touch with drummer Gonçalo Marques and guitarist player Sérgio Alves (who had previously played in cover bands) and in a matter of a few months they already had written several songs for the new project.

The name "Terror Empire" represents an omnipresent reality that has been exposed worldwide since the 9/11 attacks. Since then, there has been an official and paranoid
propaganda in order to stifle and deprive all human beings from their individual rights, so they can be subdued to the ubiquous feeling of terror.

The band's main focus has always been to produce a traditional "thrash metal sound" with traces of what has been part of the modern metal sound, such as odd time signatures, breakdowns and a bit of groove. Since 2009, they have already shared the stage with established outfits such as Pitch Black, Switchtense, Seven Stitches, Angriff or R.D.B., as well as promising newcomers and promising acts like Tales for the Unspoken, Dark Oath, Gatos Pingados and Ventas de Exterco.

Terror Empire will release their debut effort “Face the Terror” in June 2012, a six-song album in which they dwell on the subjects of the new world order and corrupt societies.
