QUOTE(vorchiel @ Apr 30 2010, 01:40 AM)
its quite a pity for newcomers/current generation

apparently just listening to metal isnt metal enough

hav to score a1 in metal history and have hands-in industrial experience then only can be accepted by old ppl yawn.gif
*
not like that actually. if you like something you may dwell onto it right? So, you can see your effort through that. If you love metal what will you do for that? what's your contribution for the things you love at most..
only you know what's exactly happen in the past but not the future. Most from my past experience, ppl keep asking about the future from the band's interview in fanzine.. hahahah nobody know about the real future.. Everyone will die for sure.. laugh.gif

hahahahahah... that seems you have some disagreement in the terms. I bet there's still somebody accept you if you're being honest and have a good attitude in front of them... tongue.gif

it's pity that most newcomer nowadays don't have a chance to be in the scene of the real metal underground... the traditional trading, pass-on some goodies, info/flyers etc, situation (it's not the same nowadays... the old time i felt more better than nowadays, more gigs, nobody care that you're metal or not).... nowadays ppl will look at you if you're wearing a black metal shirt with big inverted cross (especially Marduk's shirt like i had in the past..) tongue.gif

if you're muslim living in peninsular malaysia then it will be more trouble if you're wearing that shirt in front of religious officer... religious officer will took action because black metal has been list as illegal culture for the muslim... they'll charges you even more with 'syariah law'.... while in the old time, nobody took action against it.. hahahahahaha

in the past, i was just listening to metal at most. But i still have time to concern about other u/g scene, because i need to know it for the co-related on some part of the music. Some old timer come from another old scene of punk.. take a look at joe kidd of carburator dung. He's one of the guy from the 1st Wave of metal in our local scene in malaysia. The old timer can mixed well with other u/g scene folks. Only a newcomer that created a barrier which is making the crap thing until it got noticed by the media.. I felt frustrated these poser that show-off some stupid attitude, or maybe has been payed to make a fool on the metal scene.

Do you realized about that? I saw my old black metal hang out friend (bandboy) Aie & Faizal of Aradia, the late Xul & Sham of War666, Zarim & the late mat pet of Imperial, the late odin of Ravenlord, pogie, zoy of Cryptic Malediction, wil of Sauts Alastor, paen of Conqueror etc.. wearing a football jerseys back in 2002 after stupid harian metro newspaper spread wrong and negative views on the metal scene that we never did that.. Never ever!!! I felt this as a frustration. Most of 'em were already quit from the scene... Arggggghhhhhhhhh.... shakehead.gif

i think you're mislead my purpose of determination here. What i mean, you'll surely find a lot of info in metal scene if you like metal at most. That's sufficient, if only that the thing you can do. By supporting the band you'll surely buy metal stuff. smile.gif

What i mostly against was when a metal newcomer come to me and said he got a lot of stuff (rubbish mp3) and talking like shit and told about metal story that i've already know long time ago in front of me with egoist attitude .. fukkk the head off.. with just mp3 that you can easily get from the internet, nothing to prove that you're pure metaller and to proud off with that. Craphead really... i don't mind if you wanna download or something else but don't need to talk like he was a pro of black metal. hahahahahha... he didn't know me either... What's i'm most shocked about he talking like rubbish like a pro black metaller.. hahahahah... funny enough for me... want to teach me some more... he didn't know anyone from the metal scene and just wearing a 'baju local of metal' what's great deal about that??? a pasar malam type of band tshirt?? lol...., lol... It really happen if you guys wanna know.. i told this story to some of my old friend and they laugh as hell. When we meet this kid at the gigs we laugh in from of him and laugh until he was leaving and didn't dare to meet me again..

It's not because that i'm arrogant.. I just hate a newbie acting like shithead to tell something that i already know in long time ago with egoist attitude. Nothing to show off in front of me... I was more extreme if you guys meet me back in more a decade ago. With a leather jacket, original band t-shirt and pendant with long hair. A jacket with a back patches of Bathory (goat), on the right side of jacket there's sweden flag.. hahahahahhahaha.... dark funeral patches. On the left there's darkthrone and the true mayhem.. and with boot too. I hang out at Central Market area, Ramzan Restaurant and kedai Jaie (Nebiula Metal shop) with Dark-E voci and Ami... with a lot of metal band around KL too. Nobody dare to disturb us that time.. lol... Now only brother Naim the taiko left in the CM area... wink.gif

I think maybe some of you have met me back in the past but didn't know me because of this nick, lol...... it's because i got noticed someone from this forum said he's met me once in the nebiula metal shop.. lol...

Please, if you support METAL with your full heart and love your favourite metal band except for the rare demos, rehearsal, other type of recording etc.. just buy their stuff if it's still available. Don't depends on the Internet as your source on this music. You will let the metal scene let down if you do that... We need to strive... The only thing to show your TRUE effort is by buy the music not downloading them except for certain excuses. wink.gif

QUOTE(xnobys @ May 1 2010, 11:06 PM)
Philosophically, sXe is for a betterment of oneself. Avoiding drugs, alcohol, ciggies and promiscuous sex and all is good for your health and the community. To an extent, I practice that too until now. But once the elements of 'holier that thou' sets in, that is where the 'different ideology' start to rear its ugly head... I enjoyed very much bands during that era like Disaster Funhouse, Projekt A.K., Another Side, N.E.T. and of course Chronic Mass.

Wonder what happened to Mai (Out Of Step zine). Last time I heard he started a blog named something like 'Sehari Di Neraka' or something...
It's not like that. Nowadays, to have an album (or entire discography) of your favourite band is just a few computer clicks away and the waiting time is probably less than 2 hours. If you're not sure, you could always check the Youtube for a glimpse of what would the band sounds like and googled up details with regards to that particular band. If you like what you're listening, just proceed with the preceding step I mentioned just now.

Back in the days, or at least in 88 (when I start listening to metal by purchasing Maiden's Killers album), you don't have the facilities enjoyed by new generation of metal fans nowadays. You need to really put an effort to get the tape of your favourite band by going to the nearest music store. Depending on where you live, time taken to get your favourite band's album would take from an hour to few hours. In my case, the towkey will allow you to take an extra tape for you to 'test' a.k.a. the Youtube thingie we now enjoyed  tongue.gif . Other than that, it's tape trading and fanzine's recommendation/review or by words of mouth. If you really like the band, you'll support them by attending their gigs. Being a metal fans (especially black metal) will cost you loads of time and moolah.

That is what the 'veterans' issue against the new generation. They think that the new generation haven't put enough effort in supporting the music that we all love. For a successful mainstream band, downloading and streaming is OK. But what happened to the underground/independent bands? They practically bled and sweat for the community but what are they getting? One would argue that the illegal downloading and unauthorized streaming over the net will expand the band's fanbase but without monetary support, the band would eventually becomes discouraged. It will eventually destroy the community. Slowly but surely.

I had a long discussion on this matter with Campbell Music towkey a.k.a. Auntie. The business is experiencing a meltdown as we speak and she and all music store owners are seeing a bleak future up ahead. People are downloading music indiscriminately and if this thing continue, there'll be no recording artist except for rich fools who share their masterpiece for free...
*
yes it's a good ideology with sXe on that part but i'm against it since I'm a smoker.. and i'm a Metaller didn't need to care about that part much too.. tongue.gif Some of sXe guys were hypocrites, because they marked down their hand with 'X' symbol on the gig, but then when they go outside, they will smoke and hide the hand as well.. hahahahahhahahahhahahahaha..... But some of these people mislead the meaning of sXe because they're mixed with Veganism. Don't eat beef and only support vegetarian bla bla bla... it's seem like more hypocrites about that... I'm not a big fan of hardcore ideology but i know some of it because i read their info too on the zine, discussion with hardcore friend etc..., more importantly it's because i'm a metaller so there will be a bit wrongly on my expression.. laugh.gif notworthy.gif

I love N.E.T. the old school JBHC... hahahahahah. I don't remember where i put their cassette already. biggrin.gif

N.E.T is an old band of wak joi, skang ada bengkel skuter.. main skuter je.. huhuhuuhuhuhuh...

Where's Joe of Disaster Funhouse? last time he stayed with my friend at Old klang road then go back to ipoh. Joe really crazy, play skateboard inside of his house... hahahahahahhahaha..... tongue.gif

How about Sil Khanaz? They dont imitate metallica. If u know what kind of band is Sil Khanaz.. Malaysian metal.. dunno consider black metal or death metal
*
Have you listen to Rotting Christ, Death, Kreator and Sodom? Sil Khannaz were influenced by these band anyway... Sil Khannaz play Death Metal as well. You can heard that jaie's vocal sound like a traditional death metal band and the sound were a mixed in between death thrash of Sodom, death metal and black death metal style of Rotting Christ smile.gif

Sodom never play power metal. It's described as death thrash metal on its genre. Power metal is something like these band... blind guardian, manowar, stratovarius, luca turilli, angra, dragon force, gamma ray, helloween to name a few.... smile.gif

Kedai Auntie or Pertama Complex also don't have??

you can, but you need to pay deposit first and they'll order the item from supplier. Anyway if you want to order from overseas it's best if you order several item instead of 1 item only. It's expensive that way (delivery charges).

you need to be careful if you order CD from aussie since Sam (batara guru of langsuyr) several times experienced from getting pirated CD instead of original from the dealer that claimed it's 3rd party's original merchandise licensed from the records label itself, but the dealer didn't stated any details on its website about that, once when delivered he only know that's not an original stuff. smile.gif

you can listen to vinesh22 suggestion on how to get latest stuff. Singapore tends to get the item early than Malaysian on metal stuff. laugh.gif

Nope. I was a Music Zone last Wednesday. Since the album was just released in Europe, hopefully in two weeks it reach us. Well actually, depends on where the store source the album because if I'm not mistaken Exhibit B will be released mid of May in US. I saw Exhibit A and Let There Be Blood at Music Zone once. Therefore, there is a chance it will be brought in. Online is the best option, but I worry "kena tahan di Kastam" problem.
*
Yes, that's a problem when we order the metal's vinyl/CDs using malaysian address. Nowadays it's a bit harder to get pass the custom duty checked if found that the cover album got some explicit image/taboo wording and so on. haha. But there will be no problem if you order metal t-shirt overseas since it's just a fabric and got no problem when get through the scanner. Most of friend of mine didn't have any trouble when ordering metal t-shirt to get pass, but for the digital product like CD and vinyl there will be a 50-50 chance either it's pass or not. If you're lucky the item will be delivered safely at your home. smile.gif

Haven't had time for SG trips since i started uni, used to go 2-3 times a week sometimes for fun..LOL
The joys of being a JB kid  rclxm9.gif

Oh and where do u guys usually buy in KL?..What are the prices like?
I don't go for bundle btw, so don't suggest it..hahaha  sweat.gif
*
In the past i got free promos from rec label & band itself. I bought the stuff from kedai auntie / nebiula metal shop / victoria / acoustic music / etc from kl. I also bought from friend who ordered CDs directly from overseas, sometimes bought in singapore if any friend went there. wink.gif

the price a bit high if you compared with singapore retailer these days. Back in 90's the price was about the same with singapore or maybe just a little high but nowadays more expensive if you buy in kl. laugh.gif

But if you're vinyl collector the price will be high everywhere.. i wish i was one but till nowadays still don't get a chance to buy LP player.. I got one, but mini LP player... Only it was damaged long time ago.. hahaha... tongue.gif

P/s - Their daughter is hot!!! wub.gif

yes, already forgot their official shop name... i didn't reach there almost 5 years till now.. hahaha..
uncle know only to dress up but didn't talk much like auntie. Seems that untie got better knowledge than uncle musically.

Agreed!
Acoustic? Huh.. They don't mind putting CDs at high prices. We understand their reason, some CDs are imported via internet or by foreign suppliers (mostly Singapore). But it's funny when customers mention about high price, they quickly suggest that they can copy the CD to CDR for RM20. So imagine with rare titles, they got lot of profits by duplicating the originals. I don't know whether they still doing that or not. Oh well.. It just business.

When I was in record store business, "Best Buy" Cds and "Remasters" and "Reissues" CDs were all around RM 38-RM49.. and those were from local suppliers.

As for kedai "Auntie", anybody with Google skills can be so called "Metal Expert" these days. Sometimes I think that she's trying too much to blend in. Again, it just business. If you want to sell something, you have to know your products. Can't really blame her. Actually "Uncle" knows a lot of 80s Hard Rock and Heavy Metal bands. But really choosy on customer he wants to talk about it. Some of old metallers named it (Sifu Syndrome).

As for Khannaz boys' shop.. I like the shop because he never bother asking you "Mau cari CD apa?".. They just let you do your browsing. For me, when I enter a CD store, I'm not a fan of  people following me and asking me what CD that I'm looking for. I mean, leave me alone, man. I can help myself. I like to browse each rows of the CD section to make sure I don't miss anything. Hehehe.

It's hard to find good CD store nowadays. I miss the old days. You have to be rajin in surveying. Best bet is to be friend with fellow listeners. You might get lucky when old timers decide to sell some of their stuff. Second hand market not bad either.

Oh.. For those who looking for second hand turntables can check at Mudah.my.

This thread currently with 28,547 views. Started in 2008. Not bad!
*
Yeahhh i agreed with you on uncle, because he so talkative with me in the past... lol.. Auntie knows what's my taste as well.. So long didn't stop by in the shop.. Got really busy days working nowadays... I'll be in the gigs when i'm free, or my friend's band perform on that day too.. I'm so happy that my old friend from Aradia has re-unite back... They'll release something later....

As for Jaie's shop, in the past (1999-2000) i've always hang out there while they're still on the old shop lot, in the corner.. remember? Previously NMS was very big but now turn to be smaller because of slow reaction on metal scene. PPL love to downloading stuff even it's available in the local shop. I can't understand with this people... shakehead.gif sorry. doh.gif It's because in the past, i've felt of how hard i wanna grab some of metal stuff. I appreciated of metal attitude and ethics as well. I will not likely to buy metal pirate CD/cassette/t-shirt while there's the official merchandise are available unless 'bootleg' t-shirt which offering different design from the official merchandise of the band or if the stuff is very rare it will be excused if you're downloading/dubbing them ...

hahaha thanks for your mentioned about turntable... notworthy.gif anyway, i just finished hang out with an old friend earlier by today.. a friend from Spermblast had suggest me to go to Amcorp mall. Got a lot of 2nd hand turntable there.. So i can test and pick-up which i like... rclxms.gif I think you know him.. He really got a lot of LPs & rare stuff too.. biggrin.gif

Luckily today i got an original t-shirt of death thrash metal band from canada, Dissection.. yeayyyyyy.... very rare!! hahahahhahaha.... it's not a Swedish black metal band which got the same name... Dissection canada was an old band before the existence of swedish Dissection smile.gif So when you see someone wearing this t-shirt on the gigs, it's me by the way... I love to collect rare & old band t-shirt... It's reminds me of the past time too smile.gif
