QUOTE(ebernie @ Sep 3 2008, 01:47 PM)
RM 1k is not expensive for a f1.4 prime lens.

IMHO, I won't mind paying slightly more for the premium lenses. I've said it before - you get much more than just HSM/AFS. Expensive lenses means SLD & multi-coated glasses, better sharpness, and usually a better build (internal focus, no moving parts, all-sealed body, metal mount, damped focusing ring, etc). Remember HSM/AFS gives much more than just auto-focus - it gives fast & silent auto focus.
*
Ermm US$700 is above the RM2k barrier. RM1k is not expensive for the current f1.4, that I agree. Heck, you can get it below RM1k anyway.

RM2.4k for a 50mm f1.4 AFS is expensive to me. If they are really selling it at US$700.

1:1 macro + 31cm working distance from 105 vr..

50mm+ Raynox maybe get 1:1, but i think u need to go much more nearer to the subject..
*
Haha true, but just saying ma tongue.gif 50mm and Raynox can't get 1:1 I think. Close, but not 1:1.

QUOTE(mindkiller6610 @ Sep 3 2008, 09:34 PM)
zio, kenrockwell says the 105mm VR has some serious focus breathing issue,
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/105vr.htm#breathing

is it true ??
*
Ehhhh what exactly is a breathing issue? My lens dont breathe! tongue.gif I read it and I still dont understand what he means. You boleh explain kah?

@mindkiller Ermmm I have not noticed what he called this "great annoyance" that he has with the 105mm.

I move my body to the front and back to get the shot I want. I seldom turn the focus ring when manual focusing.

Would like to know, what is the best bang for buck for all around AF-S lens for D40/D60 ?

Or budget Macro/Potrait lens ?
*
bang for buck = 18-200mm. Everything you need in one neat lil package. Other than fixed aperture of course.

Macro/Portrait would be Tamron SP90 (since ada motor already) or save up for the Nikkor 105mm smile.gif

u eat lalat ??

btw zio, that lalat is not 1:1 ?? i am planning to get either this 105mm VR or Tamron SP90mm..
*
I believe it is not 1:1. Could have gotten nearer but risk it flying away even faster. I will say test both out and see if the moving parts of the Tamron will bother you or not.

Sharpness wise, both are comparable. But of course 105mm with VR means you can use it to do a lil more.

QUOTE(darthbaboon @ Sep 6 2008, 09:21 PM)
LOL... very good explanation indeed!

Gone through your uploaded pics and very impressed with how you managed to use the 105 for scenic shots as well. For such a tele range, you definitely composed your shots very well.

As for the macro... dun need to say la... you are the macro sifu... keng as always!  notworthy.gif
*
Hahaha.. why else would it have stayed on spot? tongue.gif

Thanks for the compliment smile.gif But my macro still need lots of practice leh. As for using the 105mm during the whole trip, it made me think more. Haha cannot simple zoom in and out to shoot.

Went out to Ampang Lookout point to capture KL night scene, but most of my shot either underexposed or overexposed. Haih. Have to play with shutter speed and aperture more and more. Might post up the pics for sifu sifu sekalian comment.

Post post! smile.gif Underexposed can still save. Some details will be retained in the dark shadows.
