focus breathing i think he means is when u turn the focusing ring slightly, the image / composition in a frame changes alot..
like with my kit lens, i notice the frame coverage changes abit when i use focus to different distance. |

QUOTE My biggest concern is that it's very hard to get precise macro framing because the image size changes greatly (breathes) while focusing. You need to use AF-C and move yourself in and out to frame. You can't move yourself and then focus, because the image size changes so much that you can't frame unless you're in focus. This may seem silly, but it's a critical issue for macro use, and a big pain when you focus manually as most macro shooters do. The 70-180mm macro lens is much better for shooting macro all day. Breathing isn't an issue for normal use. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/105vr.htm This post has been edited by mindkiller6610: Sep 3 2008, 10:35 PM |

usually the price for built-in-motor nikon mount of tamron / sigma lenses won't be much more expensive than the old version, it is around RM100-200 extra. Unless it is HSM from sigma.
Actually we are paying extra for the same thing for that they do for Canon mount, which got a AF motor as well, which I still can't figure out why.. This post has been edited by mindkiller6610: Sep 4 2008, 11:29 AM |

no no, actually Canon DSLR didn't have the AF-motor in the body, the thing this, they have the motor on the lens. like the 50mm f1.8, they have the motor on the lens, but it is not the USM type of motor.
so, other third party companies like tamron and sigma, whenever they produce a lens for canon, they will put an AF motor inside, for eg, the tamron SP90mm for canon, the AF motor is already inside, or the Sigma 70-300mm APO for Canon, the AF motor is already there, now the newer version Sigma 70-300mm APO for nikon, with AF motor, is RM150 more expensive.. QUOTE(orenzai @ Sep 4 2008, 09:23 PM) yea.. all this while, the 300D, 350D,400D,450D,1000D..they are all without AF motor on the body, try borrow these models from a friend or try at shop, u cant see the AF pin on the mount like u see in D50,D70/s or D80. not sure about the higher ends model like 30D,40D,5D,1D,1Ds etc. but to cope with that, Canon launched a large series of EF and EF-S lenses with AF motor on the lenses, thus that is not really an issue.. but for nikon, they didn't put cheap AF motor into the newer type of lenses last time when d40 released.. now they starting to put SWM into every new lenses, with AF-S prefix, SWM is faster motor, but more expensive. not all canon lenses are more expensive than nikon,
for eg. Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II only around RM330 while Nikkor AF-D 50mm f/1.8 cost around RM350-380. Canon 18-55mm kitlens sells cheaper than Nikon 18-55mm kitlens.. but Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM is more expensive than Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G VR IF-ED actually it depends.. |

the 10.5mm fisheye seems nice lens for d40/x/60
although it cant AF with d40/x/60, according to kenrockwell, ya, this fella again, he say he just put the focus between the infinity and 2m, everything will be in focus.. i thinks it is possible, with a relatively small aperture.. this is under my wishlist too.. lol |

QUOTE(motherker @ Sep 8 2008, 11:11 PM) icic..thx for d prompt reply.. the price difference is quite steep.. one without VR is rm480 whereas with VR is rm780.. u may try look for the Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro, look for the version that with built-in AF motor.is it worth it for a telephoto lens at this price range or are there any better telephoto lenses, which is within 1k of course....... No optical stabilizer like VR, but it is a good lens.. allow u to do 1:2 macro.. with some close up like raynox, u can get 1:1.. price around RM800 too. |

QUOTE(mizivincible @ Sep 9 2008, 05:22 AM) Wanna ask sifu sekalian regarding night scene shot. Seems like the result wasnt satisfying, altho I shame to upload it here, but I guess its best to ask sifu what's wrong with it. first shot over exposure, second shot exposure seems correct,KL Night Shot - » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « but, you should have : 1) use the lowest ISO 2) use smaller aperture / big f/number. 3) longer exposure time. 4) remove the UV filter to avoid flares. |

QUOTE(zio @ Sep 9 2008, 05:09 PM) Just to revisit this by mindkiller. I tried the lens out at FRIM, and yes, it does have the problem mentioned. The composition changes as you turn the focus ring. does it really affect the compo much ?? i guess can just fix that by cropping in PP after that.. QUOTE(mindkiller6610 @ Sep 9 2008, 10:31 AM) our D40 got pre-flashes (flash fires few times) when set to TTL mode ?? and answering my own question,i test my bro Sony A200, when flash is set to TTL mode, the flash fires few tmes.. even red eyes turned off. D40 does have TTL monitor preflash, it is fast and only flashes once.. to try it.. set your flash mode to TLL and REAR, set your shutter speed to 1 second or longer.. and shoot, u notice that it flashes 1 time at the beginning of the exposure (that's the preflash), and flashes again at the end of the exposure(that's the REAR flash).. when u change the flash power to Manual and REAR, it only flashes one time at the end of the exposure.. comparing to my bro's Sony A200, it flashes 2 times before the real flash kicks in.. |
