QUOTE(jayniel @ Aug 23 2008, 10:57 PM)
@bytefreezer.. she just rehome today, better let her settle down first before introducing her to other hamsters.. she's been living with her sisters, therefore a sudden change of environment may stress her for a while.. just let her be on her own for the time being..
@Jamien: yalo, still can't intro, she'll be paranoid and stay at the corner if i put them together in a tank with a splitter(i used the tank cover) in between.

@jayniel: hehe, by tat time u told me to put a splitter in between, i straight away start the constructions ady:), din see your subsequent msg. I did put her alone in the new tank after i brought her back from you, but she juz look not happy, the coat become wet and shivering on the wheel. After i put in other robos on the other side of the splitter, she looks better and start wondering around and sand bathing herself. Another thing -> If any buyer of her sisters or brothers FFK, do let me know smile.gif

smile.gif Toilet sand is for hamsters to pee ad poo in. It's rougher and slightly bigger than bathing sand.

Bathing sand is for hamsters to roll in and clean their fur. It's very fine and might even smell nice since it has various flavors.
*
Hehe, my robos will juz simply poo or pee on any sand they encounter. smile.gif Then they will still bath on the same sand until they think the sand is really dirty to bath with.

MY NEW FEMALE ROBO STAT: Calming down at the corner of the tank.
MY OLD ROBOS: Sleeping on the other side of the splitter... so far.

I'm using a habitrail playground for 2 of my robos now, so far not much problematic except the cage comes with extra iron for my robos. tongue.gif They always like to climb up and chew on those metal bars... now i use some 1.5inches width plastic card to block them from climbing up.

But for habitrail mini, IMO, i think it's not very practical. First of all, the mushroom water bottle... and the hanging wheel... etc... You ask me run on a hanging wheel, i also die lo, dun mention bout hamster. tongue.gif

The explanation here is pretty simple:
Any hamster that is not robo, need to be seperated. Even they don't fight now, doesn't mean that they WOULDN'T fight, it's juz the matter of time.

The robos have to be from the same batch. If different batch or age, they will fight also.

That's why it is better to get a pair of same sex robos in 1 go than get 1 now and get another later.
*
Erm~~~ sounds like my current situation. I got a female robo which i got from jayniel few days ago, been tried to intro to existing pair but failed. Now i'm keeping the new robo alone in another cage and hopefully will calm it down and relief the stress.
The new robo will start screaming even if there is another robo across the splitter... headache.... rclxub.gif

How did you cook the eggs? Boil? I think your robos just not yet use to the egg white only. Takes time.

man, u guys are wayy too sensitive. she was just giving a statement on her opinion and also what she heard from hun. no need to start ganging up on her like that.

if it was some newbie that ask that, im sure we'd reply it nicely that the smoothie has been good so far to our hamsters. then again, most of us only hv syrians and WWs, not RCs.

simple statement become such a controversy shakehead.gif
*
You got the point rclxm9.gif
Instead of discussing and arguing on the diabetes issue and the smoothie, you guys seems to moved ur focus onto jayniel and start pointing every damn thing at her, and discussed on her intention of starting this discussion.

*
To me, i prefer the natural bath sand without any smell. Maybe the sand smell gud to human but not to the small one, and i think it'll confuse their sense of smelling also.

some hamster love egg, some don't. maybe u try chinese tou fu. which so far all my hamster love it. which is a good source of protein.
*
@nezu
But nowadays, chinese tofu that sell around my area comes in those plastic sealed packing, and no more in the old look. Can still be fed to my hammies? And also, my hamster like your smoothies very well... they start showing me tricks or climb up and down when i open up the container near their cage.

Anyone got experience how to intro a robo from a different bloodline and batch?... My existing pair of robos will get too excited and start chasing the new robo when i put her into the cage. Then the new robo will start screaming and hide at the corner.

Methods that i have tried:
* A tank separated half, 1(new):2(old). I poked few holes on the splitter itself.
Result: New robo become paranoid and start screaming if she smell another robo on the other side of the splitter.

* Try to calm down the new robo for few days in a different cage, but put next to the old cage. The new cage, i've change all the bedding and display, juz that i din wash it with vinegar+water as some LYNer suggested.
Result: Still panic when i put her in a container with holes, and put the container into the old cage with 2 robos.

Then use the switch methods cage. Basically let each robo stay in their cage for a week. Then switch the robos to each other's tanks. Switch it for 2 weeks and try another re-intro.

Will try switching cages on sunday...
I tried switching bathing sand and wheels also, coz this 2 things got lotz of lotz of pees, so i tot i might get them to know each other. But so far didn't see the effect yet... sad.gif

Hi everyone, I'm still new in this hamster thread as well as keeping hamsters. I got something here to suggest, but first of all I need to beg for you all not flame me or whatever... notworthy.gif

I read lotz of your argument between "say yes to smoothies" and "say no to smoothies" camps, and I tried google a some sites and found out really a lot of sites mentioned do not feed fruits to certain breed of hamsters. So, the fact of feeding fruits or not, is quite obvious in this case.

Same thing goes to nezu's smoothie. Why is every one say it's good and excellent? Becoz lotz of ppl bought and saw their hamster grow up pretty fast. That's why it's good.

While we don't really know 100% of the whole recipe of the smoothie, I think nezu is the one and only person that can complete this task: Why don't come out another flavor of smoothie, which contain not so many fruits and sugary content that can make everyone happy? For instance, if you go to buy some fruit jam in the supermarket, you can see some of those labeled as "Consumable by Diabetes Patient" or so, why don't you do the same thing as well. As most of us treat our hamster as human. (I did talk to them and lecture them sometimes... smile.gif). And the most important thing, I think most of us believe in one thing -> "Better be safe than sorry"

For those who almost want to start a flame on me now:
Why is nezu come out with this smoothie at the first place? Becoz she took many ppl advice and start distribute it instead of using it alone. And now I hope nezu can consider my suggestion as well at this moment.

Thank you for not flaming... smile.gif

what's Insectivore-Fare?
u can try putting vaseline at the wheel.it'll be more quiet. juz make sure ur ham hams dont try to eat it. i dont think its safe to be consumed rite
*
Insectivore-Fare can be found in jtl's thread. It's meant for inserts eater. not cheap though.

Vaseline is not soluble, but to human is not poisonous, not sure on hammies. Last time i used to put it on my lips when it's dry.

I bought a box of tofu this afternoon. Since our hammies only consume a lil bit at a time, how do prevent the tofu from getting spoil? After open, i think can only keep 1-2 days more in the fridge...
