Hm, after saw all the posts about the high cost of staying on campus, I'm really thinking to rent a house outside, what will be my concern is good furnished, water heater, quite environment, washing machine(any dobi outside?) and streamyx of course. Anyone staying outside can kindly PM me for details? smile.gif Trying to get a room before my course starts... tongue.gif

BTW, the nearest housing area from uni is TTS right?

But TTS is nowhere cheaper than on-campus if you are talking about TTS5 and Edu Square. TTS2 is cheaper but also, not that good, looks older and more isolated.

Most private houses tend to have a 12 month contract and rent that exclude other bills (electricity tend to hover around RM400-700 based on one house) whereas in campus people tend to pay for 9 months inclusive. So its expensive in terms of cumulative rent, but not monthly rent.

It is viable to afford a private house if you can find around 5-7 other people, if the house is around RM1800-2200 with ac for 12 month contract, which could break even with in-campus total rent of 2008.

TTS5 is the closest, you can Google map it.

Since there's many private owner renting their houses. Some owners are willing to negotiate to provide better accommodation (ie, you can ask for heated water, replacement of old furniture, add washing machine and table), but don't ask too much like for Persian rugs and LCD TV.
I'm not sure if there's any good houses at TTS5 left.

And there's no streamyx but Maxis wired 1mbps in TTS5.

firstly.. i dont qualify myself as a senior.. hahaa..

for the first time.. i paid through banking in.. they have the bank in details for u in the accommodation form..

the half month rental thing.. i think u have to call pioneer itself.. and the payment for the first time includes the deposit. the payment varies with the type of room..

and yeap.. starting from september.. the rental will be increased by rm25... aikz.. i hate that too.. but no choice.

thanks for replying mate...

blink.gif No streamyx? I don't demand for LCD TV or persian rugs, but I will need internet connection at least. Will do a search there, last time I went there and saw few houses for rent. 12 month contract will be alright for me if it is cheaper than staying on campus since I'm having my own transport. Or may be buy a house there as an investment laugh.gif

Unlimited electricity? rclxub.gif How much can you use actually in campus? Unless you told me that you got a big fridge, huge LCD tv, unlimited usage of air-cond, 24/7 on light and fan then I will consider it is cheaper.

Maxis wired for TTS5 is fixed line like streamyx, so no problem if your accustomed to streamyx.
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/401472/+360

And oncampus with ac is exclusive for electricity bill. But I dont know anyone who uses that type of room to know how much they pay for that.
http://www.nottingham.edu.my/Students/Supp...ts/TERMS-OC.pdf

But i do know people who have medium-size fridge or TV+console in non-ac room and they don't pay for electricity bill since its inclusive with the rent. Maybe that's why their increasing the rental by RM25 because certain people are using much more electricity than they expected.

Hi, regrading staying on campus, we need to pay for 2 months deposit, 1 month advance rental and 1 month of first month rental, so we pay 4 months of rental? Am I right?

Within campus, everywhere has WiFi EXCEPT the hostels, ie the 5 halls.
Nonetheless, if you are lucky enough to get the left wing of Tioman hall and at the end of it (which is near to the SA building), you might be able to catch the free connection in the SA.
