Really? but my friend said that I cant learn it because he say Im so THIN and wont be able to throw people == and suggest me go learn kendo....kendo at KL == my mum doesnt allow me to go there == Btw did you heard of Aikido Yamada Kota Kemuning Dojo?

thin? how thin are u? hmm.gif personally, i dont think it is a problem, whether u're thin or small. afaik, techniques taught in aikido are not like those in judo or jujitsu, in fact even small and thin people can pick up judo. so i think it wont be a problem for u to learn aikido. why dont u go and talk with the instructor to find out more?

i'm not really sure about kendo, cant really advise u on that. but for self defense, i think normally people dont go for kendo. for self dense, aikido is something that u can consider. btw, i'm from the northern part, so cant help u on the dojo stuff.

icic. biggrin.gif hmm, quite 'small'. tongue.gif
lol, did i confuse u? i'm not a judo or aikido practitioner. afaik, in judo, u learn various ways on how to throw people, takedown, submissions or chokes. in aikido, u learn how to manipulate your opponent's joints, control their joints and throw them to thenground when they're off balanced. these are what i know so far. smile.gif

I miss tae kwon do.

It took me 2 years to get Red/Black belt and I was told I was too young to have a black belt (I was 12).

So I just gave up tongue.gif

there's no jkd in malaysia. Preferably, you need do wingchun as a foundation before embarking on jkd. JKD concentrates on fighting skills with very little emphasis on self defence. Attack is the Best defence.

this is FALSE. aikido is all about the misdirection of energy and reusing towards your opponents. the highest 5th Dan aikido sensei in Malaysia was Allahyarham Haji Mat Darus in Kuching Sarawak. months before he died he was still throwing people around and guess what, he was 80 + years old and he stood at my shoulder level. a tiny thin human being no more than 5 foot high and he can throw 2 big guys at one time.

I hope your friend meant Kempo, because Kendo is sword fighting and Kendo is supplementary martial art - meaning Kendo is a top up skill upon another martial art you already know. remember, you cant bring a shinai, the wooden sword anywhere you go

Added on May 9, 2012, 4:50 pmone more thing. stay away from Muay Fit - if you stay there and watch how they conduct the class damn fail la.

firstly, im really disappointed how they let the juniors just do what ever they want during training. one trainer is talking flirting with the gal at the counter. another main handphone. and one guy is trully teaching but only to one - two guy. he never once addresses the whole class. then its like he's malas malas like that, 2 girls practice uppercut where their uppercut goes all the way to their forehead (this is wrong, palm always stops at your chin to minimise torso exposure) and he was like ok ok that is correct what ever lah

second, the postures the body position the basic basic movement is never integrated properly. my friend who introduced me to muayfit stands with his feet straight forward. comeon, he was there for 2 years and the basic standing posture is wrong. yea they have world champs la or MMA fighters as trainers but not all fighters can teach and not all teachers goes into the ring.

third, its not muay thai - its kickboxing. no hanuman moves, no sneaky moves (illegal in the fighting ring i.e.: eye gorge / pokes, leg breaking arm breaking moves)

i was there not once, but 3 times. still, muayfit doesnt induce any confidence in me

I'm compiling a list of schools / dojo that offer Aikido, Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Capoeira, Kung Fu, Self-Defense classes ... etc.
The main focus here is martial arts, not those aerobic / cardio workouts offered by gym.

Please contribute if you know more  smile.gif

i have to agree with some of the ppl who posted above about muayfit. Dont waste your time and hard earned money with that place. I joined Muayfit back when it was still "cheap" RM62 a mth and signed up for a 2 year package. Just another example on why cheap doesnt always necessary mean good. Now i really regret man. Its my 5th mth into the gym and i realised i have learnt almost absolutely NOTHING at all!!!! those of you who r thinking to join please look elsewhere, somemore their fees now have increased to about RM260 a mth.

their kickboxing class is absolutely shit (hardly any technique), more like cardio kickboxing. this is not to say that it does not have any benefits. if you are looking for a gym to workout, to lose weight, to sweat, to burn calories, then you might want to consider muayfit (but then again, if this is what u r lookign for in a gym, might as well join a commercial gym). if you r looking to learn technique and be in a class with good instructors and students who r serious about learning this is not for you.

this goes for nearly all the classes that i have tried there. i have tried their "muay thai" (seriously there should be a lawsuit against muayfit for claiming that they offer muay thai classes), krav maga, MMA and bjj classes. Only the bjj (no gi) class seems to be quite legitimately tought.

the krav maga class its a repetition week in week out, you learn maybe 3-4 techniques max.

the mma class while they do teach u technique, its all over the place with no real basic fundamental techniques or explanation. they might teach you how to do a double leg takedown or an armbar, but they dont teach you the proper way to do it, and sometimes your training partner doesnt really help at all when they fall to a double leg take down (regardless of whether you r doing the takedown correctly or not). instructor sometimes corrects you, but most of the time jsut leaves you to your own devices.

no gi bjj looks ok though (from the couple of classes i have tried so far) and thats mostly because the class is small and the students who show up for class are serious about training and willing to learn.

most of the students at muayfit are just there to "main-main" only. Not to mention a lot of poseurs and wannabe UFC fighters. Simply do anyhow also can. Come on lah, you see some macho looking guys there strutting their muscles in their Venum fight shorts, but get tired during the cardio warm up and sits out halfway. Like that you still wanna call yourself a fighter? Please, stop kidding yourself.

Btw, im also a newbie to martial arts but I joined Muayfit to learn something and not to simply play around and waste my money so now I am extremely dissapointed with it and dont think i can claim back my money now.

In summary, its a pretentious gym which is not legit at all. Muayfit might boast fighters with impressive resumes but they use this as a marketing tool and that has conned a lot of people (like myself, unfortunately) into thinking they r legit and offer a proper training course but its very fake and a waste of money. If you r looking to learn and train any form of martial art seriously with proper technique, I suggest you look somewhere else. Dont get conned into joining muayfit (like me, hahah).

Anyway, gonna jsut cut my losses and look around for another gym. Anyone can recommend any good muaythai gyms? Small student to teacher ration preferably.

interested in MMA and Krav Maga.. can anyone tell me the difference or the similarities about them?

I've seen some action movies with some use-able fighting skills ( dont worry, i've learned wingchun bfore tongue.gif ) they kind of fascinates me with how they take down people so quickly.

I am currently learning jujutsu and from my point of view, the difference between aikido and judo/jujutsu is aikido throws are lighter, and it requires enemies to charge to you so that you can use their momentum against themselves. Judo/Jujutsu is a completely different system, we start the throw on our own after a proper atemi (strike to body). Do not listen to your fren, if he/she discouraged you from learning aikido/judo just because of size, that means he/she never understand the principle behind those martial arts. In judo/jujutsu, what we need to throw is the proper position of your body, not strength, in fact smaller and lighter ppl will have an advantage to throw compared to taller and heavier ppl.

Martial art is very subjective, what I said may not be completely precise and true, but at least I am sure in 1 thing, that is size never the obstacle in learning these arts.
