xtorm,
the size of the wire will also affect the inductance, not to mention length the wire that I used is 0.055mm dia. About a foot or 14/15 turns around the ferrite core to get ~1uH. You like the casing eh? I did too! That was bought by a friend in Bangkok! Sorry to say, you can't get it here, locally. I am using a Nikon Coolpix 5700. Sharp eh? The casing is about 3000 Baht (do your own conversions) Hahaha, all these smileys wearing songkok one! Guys, what color LED would you use in that kind of casing? Please don't say BLUE. Almost ALL LEDs on every electronic equipments are BLUE.. now blue makes it look 'cheap'... ongbs,
not at all Yep.. I thought so.. WHITE on the aluminium panel.. kinda 'sexy' The brightness can be controlled by the series resistor.. I have some white LEDs but it's the little ones size about 3mm. including the LED mount.. what I afraid is that the installation of the LED, wrong position/size will affect the good looking panel. But without anything right now, the front panel looks so 'naked' and bland.. Whoa.. those speakers are real heavy weights! 20kilos! Mine is only 18.. Yeah.. I picked that 'kemek' tweeter right away.. it doesn't really affect the sound right.. only 'sakit mata' Actually the tweeter can be 'returned to normal'.. have you tried or you don't want to risk damaging it further? See attached LEDS pix.. decisions.. decisions... I "returned" it before...but the next day when I got back home...my toy brought me to the tweeters and show me his "mod" I asked him why he promised not to press it in but still did it...you know what is the answer? He said...."Pressed in" baru syiok mah! It won't affect the SQ....only like you said...not so "friendly" to eyes :( Well, as for the LED i will choose the right side for flush mounting, middle one look "classy" but got a "nipple" come out This post has been edited by ongbs: Sep 1 2008, 02:31 PM |

It's hard to believe how much 'little' power you need to drive a high efficiency speakers.. and all this while i am driving my speakers with a 90+90Watter!
Looks like you have a potential modder in the family.. talents yet to be tapped! Yes.. we're n the same wavelength here.. the little one, white flush mounted.. let me make a prototype mount/installation how well this would look. Ooops.. when you mentioned it.. it certainly does... anyway, puasa cannot have 'dirty' thoughts.. hahaha The important thing here is the look must commensurates with the excellent sound here.. hehe. Hari Raya can 'tayang' to the guests.. Since today is first day of puasa, nothing much to do except clocking the burn in hours for the amp.. Say, if you want to wound yourself the 'donut' inductors, they're RM1.20 each from NIXIE. You need four. Copper wires they don't sell by the metres.. You have to asked around if they're kind enough to cut to measure.. Minimum purchase of 1 kg at RM71 per kilo. it's kinda 'too much'.. I am playing with the idea of using a heavier gauge wire for the inductors.. should lower the resistance and handle more current. Refer attached pix... jazzy, some nice inductor there
wow rm71 per kg?? izit alot then? mayb you can share with ongbs i got feedback form my supplier. those inducor are rated 10uh at 600khz, handheld meter cant get the correct measurement, he tried with thier QC equipment and it measure 11uh he advice us to use better meter if we are planing to make our own inductors.... :( haha ongbs....you son soon to be like you... |

xtorm,
1 kg of copper will make thousands of inductors! There's an error of 3% with handheld.. but we don't need a highly precised inductor,do we? This is audio..this is T-Amp.. precision? I am happy with my elcheapo LCR meter. 1uH difference wont make much difference anyway. You never know, 11 uH might sounds a little better than 10uH! Hahahaha.. we can only wish/dream! BTW, Its 1uH that I want, NOT 10uH. Too mellow n laid back.. So how come the stock inductor is reading 1uH onmy meter and 50uH on ongbs's? haha
he mention we cant get the correct value with the normal unit, he tried with a hanheld meter before, it was no good, only got the reading with the QC equipment in the lab, those inductor are rated 11uh at 600khz, as we all know ta2024 switch at a very high frequency but hey if 1uh on your meter sounded good then why not we are happy with value for money stuff |

Okay, got it.. a bit slow today
In that case I am winding my inductors with reference to the stock inductance! Therefore error or not, they "should be the same".. Well who's counting the value? It's the end result that counts! I guess the 5000euro will come in handy eh? To those who are making their own casings (don't we all here?)
Where do you install the power switch if it's in front? I was looking at my hifi and believe it or not, ALL of the power switches are located on the LEFT! As such, the power indicator is normally located at/near the power switch too. Wonder why is such a convention? My casing for the T-Amp does not have a power switch. The 3 pin socket is the switch! Hehehe In the absence of a power switch, where would the power indicator located? I have seen equipments normally power amps as they have NO or just one master switch, the switch and power indicator can be, well.. anywhere! No convention here.. The reason for this posting is, the front panel of my amp is too clean. Too clean as in NOTHING! It just sits there, quietly producing great sweet music without a hint (visually)that it's 'operating'.. Based on ongbs input, I have decided to choose a WHITE LED (small 3 mm in size) as the indicator.. now, its location..location..location Just want your opinions based on your housing. Can we have the pix of your casing too? Y.C., balik kampung ka? |
