Once I one of the channel after switched ON there is no sound...
Found one of the toroid inductor's lead broke off, soldered it in, phew! It worked... I was worried if I blew the speakers off! laugh.gif

OMRON is a relay manufacturer among other things. They are well known for their quality relays! biggrin.gif

Just finished installing the circuit with the T-Amp. Hooray, no thumps! rclxm9.gif
Gonna make it permanent now... was testing using crocodile clips/hookup wires..wink.gif

The relays outputs are rated at 5A.. more than adequate to handle the T-Amp power output.

I don't think it will affect the sound much.. hence my choice of only OMRON relays.

xtorm,
currently I will be using it for the speakers. Right now it is configured tomake/break speaker connection.
However it can also be used to short the speaker output momentarily, sufficient to short the thump, the speakers also would not be connected through the relay terminals, if you are concerned with degraded sound quality. hmm.gif Ithink you like this part better huh? tongue.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Sep 28 2008, 12:29 AM)
tht circuit is for the speaker out right?

must report hows the sound quality after adding those thing biggrin.gif

not the T-Amp, just the speakers... for thump protection!

Y.C.,
Your new board got pop sound? ohmy.gif Must be the new 440uF power caps, huh?
I am surprised to! I have not tested mine.. maybe I'll check it out too... hmm.gif Before I finalised the installation of the speaker relay board that is tongue.gif

QUOTE(Y.C. @ Sep 28 2008, 01:35 AM)
Jazzy,
......

I tested the new T-amp board; it has the 'pop' sound even in stocked form whereas my well run-in unit which I replaced the caps with Vishay ERO 2.2uF and Panasonic 1000uF 16V surprisingly has no 'pop' sound.  I am surprised hearing the 'pop' sound.

We are? ohmy.gif biggrin.gif
Good work guys! thumbup.gif Let's keep this super-duper thread alive, yeah! wink.gif

Some update on my side.

Completed a prototype speaker relay board. Just finish moments ago, now auditioning if there are deterioration to the sonics..
What matter most is, now there is a COMPLETE absence of any 'thumps' or any undesireable power up noises thumbup.gif

This prototype is NOT using the OMROM relays but a 'NAIS' relay made in Thailand. Slightly cheaper than OMROM(made in malaysia).
I am saving the OMRON for the final board which I want to finalised/optimized the circuit design. The circuit was adapted from a basic 555 timer circuit with some modifications to suit my needs. The onboard LED(red) will light up when the speakers ore online/operational. Maybe I should put this LED(not RED tongue.gif) on the bland front panel to indicate the speakers are online... hmm.gif

How it works:
During power up, the relays(there are 2 as I am going to run bi-amp) will be energized and break a normally closed contacts.
These contacts are connected in series with the speakers.
After the timer has reached 5.5 secs, the relay will be de-energized, close the normally close contacts and reconnect the speakers. By this time all the in-surge current and what nots should have subsided.

So during normal operation the relay coils are unpowered/deenergized.

The cycle of the timer will restart when power is recycled.

Pix attached.

Y.C.,
Thanks for the review/update.I shall make a note about the Panasonic caps. These little 'tweaks' sure help in squeezing out every bit of the SQ left there is.. I think that's why we love this T-Amp.. wink.gif

The newboard that I received, there is a faint thud, not pop, suspicion goes to the new 'larger' capacity power caps.. tongue.gif

I would like each of us to compile what modifications that we did to our amp and give summary if possible how it affect the T-Amp sonics. And what would be the best single modification that you would recommend to other T-Amp users.. just an idea.. wink.gif

Selamat Balik Kampung to those who will be going back.. I am staying put where I am. Local boy mah.. tongue.gif

Will be working till tuesday anyway.. wink.gif

ongbs,
indeed looks like a war zone! biggrin.gif , your home minister not at 'war' with you, ah? tongue.gif

Mine is on the contrary.. This morning was still a mess especially the dinner table as I was making the speaker relay board. Later in the afternoon under the request (more like an order!:P)of the home minister I had to put away all DIY stuffs out of sight till Hari Raya is over... shakehead.gif

Looks like this week very very minimal DIY if there is any in the first place! wink.gif

Keep this place alive guys..! Orang luar negeri tak cuti Raya! Hahahaha!

ongbs,
Oh ya.. I forgot about your 'toy' laugh.gif He's not 'toying' around with your T-Amp, no?

Anyway, my T-Amp mod is almost maxed out.. Other than installing another board for bi-amping there would be no major modding anticipated.

Well here it is an almost completed T-Amp playing/singing right now in my setup with the cover removed.. wink.gif

ongbs,
no wonderlah your hall can become warzone.. otherwise you'll be battling with your 'toy'! hahahaha tongue.gif

Hey thanks for the compliments! blush.gif I was lucky to have acquired it earlier.. wink.gif

That YAMAHA is digital sound field processor. Left over from my earlier home theatre system. Now gave up home theatre.
It is purely used as a preamp in plain stereo mode. Sounds fantastic when partnered with the T-Amp. Very neutral, natural sonics.. Giving my integrated Technics a run for the money. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(ongbs @ Sep 28 2008, 06:12 PM)
bro, what is the Yamaha mode? Stereo amp right?  brows.gif
My toy is ay his grandma house today  thumbup.gif

Now he hardly play my stuffs as I told him he will get "shock" if touching my stuffs...but on and off he still come to disturb  shakehead.gif

You got a very well built T-amp, with super nice casing...maybe one of the best in this thread  notworthy.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

I am following the thread closely.. wink.gif

Raya in KL and Shah ALam only, I am a 'city boy' laugh.gif

Oh yes.. when will our first T-Amp TT session be? hmm.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Sep 28 2008, 07:02 PM)

grandspy,
The SMPS you've got is exactly the same unit like mine! thumbup.gif
I'd say 90% of the shops will be closed on Sundays. On saturdays they start to close at 5pm..

Answering your questions.
1. yes. for biamping purposes, the input need to be split/paralleled. Actually at this juncture, you can use filter to split the frequencies, like an active filter. In my case I'd use a different input caps for each board. My LF/woofer T-Amp will be using the EPCOS MKT 10uF caps while the HF/tweeter driver will be driven by 2.2uF F-ELNA input caps.

2. Don't have to use two SMPS. The one that you've got (4.2A)has more than ample juice to drive two T-Amps as the power consumption of the T-Amps is very little indeed.

QUOTE(grandspy @ Sep 29 2008, 12:25 AM)
arrgghh... I should've known that most shops in Jalan Pasar are close on Sunday. I didn't manage to get all the ingredients to cook my amp. Nevertheless, I succeed in bringing back a 12V SMPS. It looks very much like Jazzy's. Is it the same?

Question : When you use the T-amp to bi-amp the speakers, do you split the input into two - one for each amp? And do you employ 2 SMPSs?
