Y.C.,
Wahhh no wonderlah you are 'sold'.. tongue.gif
At RM6.50 from Farnell, I think its a 'steal'.. wink.gif
For the pot, I can't help much as I don't use them at this point of time biggrin.gif

Further update:

I took xtorm advice and remove stock caps from the 'virgin' second T-Amp board...
Bear in mind, this second board has 0(zero hours) burn in..
Plug in the board and... voila! rclxms.gif
My jaw kinda dropped! Now the low end frequencies are somewhat 'heavier' and almost full bodied.. it definitely sounds better than my first T-Amp that has clocked 11 hours of burn in... Is this the same T-Amp?

I think the problem is the polarised 1uF input caps that came with the T-Amp.
I will remove the polarised caps only on the 1st. T-Amp and re-connect the two big yellow unpolarised caps in parallel, we'll see whats gonna happen next...  rolleyes.gif

Here's the moded second T-Amp:
*
oh rm6.50 is good to buy? then i might get few too tongue.gif as im ordering stuff form farnell next week.
yea those input caps kinda crappy actually, those input caps makes quite a different

some how I'm in the corner between gainclone and tripath.....which choice should I choose....??? hmm.gif
*
prices vs performance...hmmm, and this unit basically you will need a 12v battery only thumbup.gif

QUOTE(mysghooi @ Aug 16 2008, 04:59 PM)
Hi all sifu here, can this T-amp power up by using my Honda EX5 battery?
*
yea probably if its 12v

great news...

more poison coming, tongue.gif

my supplier is working on a fully work up ta2024, it mayb cost doubler, more component will be put in, he mention 300 pieces. hmmm no KISS liao...hahaha, but sound reproduction will be better comparing to the current design.

he told me i tapau the last 12 pieces he got biggrin.gif the low cost unit will still be in produciton, no worries about that.

gona go take out my unit and put back the full filter and test it out tongue.gif

the patient survive!!!

im so touch

he is now

stronger!
better at planing!
planing in much detials now!!
and he is sooo calm.

now all tht in normal terms
bass kick better now, and its abit louder
positioning of instrument is better now.
details.....
some song with peaks is now gone!!

all resistors measure 11.9X comparing to the ori 20k withmeasure 19.6x to 19.8x, i think tht helps alot in blancing the channel.

i think he ment 2 +ve terminal joined and 1 negative terminal

then conect it to the speaker like usual

meaning only 1 boards require per speaker

hmmm...kinda risky right?

Surgeon General Department Warning: May Induced UDMS(Uncontrolled DIY Mod Syndrome) tongue.gif
Observation Report
5 hours burn in has lapsed, for a total of 7.
These are the findings:
Caution: References were made to original report, hence,

1. Feels like a thin 'veal' was removed from the soundstage.(probably due to the added burn in hours)
2. Cleaner, tighter, well controlled response esp. vocals and highs (added caps)
3. An impressive separations of instruments. (similar to ori)
4. Bass is a little bit defined, just a touch. A little too 'bland' for my taste. (almost no change)

Conclusions:
1. With 2uF NP there's just a touch of sonic differences from stock configuration.
2. Removal of the polarized 1uF cap is recommended.
3. Patient 2 is now in better shape and performance, will kick ass soon!  laugh.gif
4. Will induce Patient 1 to carryout transformation as per Patient 2 or better!  brows.gif

Details and informations are true at time of writing.

End of Report.

haha bro i think still, use better cap for tht part, you will appreciate the diff it makes to the soundstage! and bass too smile.gif

10uf didnt kinda pull down the high frequency abit?

yea i have been reading tht smps sounded the best, even for gain clone

xtorm,
risky? hmm maybe. but personally I wont do it tongue.gif

Yes.. its all about high quality caps and that yellow thing although acceptable, can be better!  thumbup.gif

That 10uF that I use does reduce the 'brightness' as compared to using just 2uF.

I have this wild idea about bi-amping; the amp feeding the tweeter will have 2uF input caps, while the amp driving the woofers will have a 10uF input caps!  laugh.gif

Since I already have that configuration, I will do that!!!  thumbup.gif
*
yep im planing to use 1uf for my tweeter smile.gif

ongbs, those japan cap rox ah,,,?

hows the tweeter sound?

Hi, can i know this T-Amp is more likely to audiophile ? Or more like car power sound?
*
i use it in my car, all i can say is wow.

i use to have a 2k amp runing the same speaker with the same electronic crossover on a head unit which cost 1.6k

now im runing the same speaker and electronic crossover, but 2 x T-amp and my samsung handphone as source, initially i though it was me, but my friend audited my car and he say wow too, much better then my last setup

there are too much good review in the net which require really little intro here, ppl with few k setup are blown away by this little thing. but i beleive i might be the 1st to use it in car, so there goes my review smile.gif

the other pair if no issue at all hopefully it arrive next monday!! biggrin.gif

eh you planing to do full balance bi-amp setup ah!! ahahaha

Quite tempting, i been looking for the T-amp chip for long time. gonna hold my desire first, need to save up some money before getting crazy into DIYing again.

Jazzy939: inductance meter is not cheap toy, if u consider china brand is different issue. but why not consider getting a digital scope?
*
rm55 is complete unit, get a 1amp adapter you are ready to go...tongue.gif but no you wont stop there once you know every little thing makes a different! rclxms.gif

QUOTE(ongbs @ Aug 19 2008, 11:04 AM)
bro ah....not many ppl here got their t-amp kits on hand....that's why most of the time we are running "3 men show" tongue.gif

*
more shra market coming...hahaha

QUOTE(jazzy939 @ Aug 19 2008, 02:29 PM)
bro wui223,
the inductance meter would be a whole lot cheaper than the digital scope, yes? tongue.gif

the T-Amp is an almost ready product. Just plug(PSU/battery,input and speakers) and play..  laugh.gif

Found this LC meter kit... interesting..  drool.gif USD59.95 +12 shpg.
*
wah tht cool, accurate ah? shocking.gif

QUOTE(zzzxtreme @ Aug 19 2008, 02:32 PM)
hey modder, u build one, then i pay you double the cost lah can?
order from internet would costs me almost $500.
*
bro serious? rm500 i can build you a nice 4 channel with upgrade edi biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Y.C. @ Aug 19 2008, 03:10 PM)
While waiting for my T-amp to arrive, I worked on the casing for it - a Rosewood jewellery box box measuring 8" x 5". I manually drilled some holes to fit in the speaker binding posts and RCA connectors and all this without proper tools, just using screw drivers of various sizes. I Would need another hole to fit in the DC current connector at one of the corner on the same side as these holes.

mysghooi,
I am using a 3A power supply to feed the T-Amp, so the cable that I am using is rated at 5A.
Speaker cables, I am using my existing QED79 speaker cable and a set of TRANSPARENT speaker cables.
Do not sacrifice the quality of the speaker cables here. It would help in tapping all the T-Amp capabilities!  thumbup.gif

wah good stuff wor smile.gif

tripath are famous cos they sound really nice, duno abt other tho...

my supplier got 200w ta2022 biggrin.gif

btw some search online found tht 2024 is much closer to tube amp sounding then ta2020, but 2020 is an all rounder

high power t-amp are kinda expensive in the terms of diy, but price vs sound, the value is pretty good!

got it from diy forum

QUOTE
Andy,
I'm sure Charlize can drive some relatively low efficiency speaker.
Just last week-end, I brought the Charlize over to have a listening session at a friend抯 place. His set-up was pretty good and comprises of :-

a.) CEC belt drive CDP (can't remember exactly which model)
b.) Unison Research Simply 845
c.) Focus Audio 58 Sig. speakers

Assortment of power-cord, interconnect and speakers that are expensive.

Played a couple of songs including Patricia Barber's 'Live: A Fortnight In France' CD. Listening to the U.R Simply 845 was quite satisfying. However, swapping the Charlize against the Simply 845 into the exiting set-up simply was experience to be-hold.

The piano simply sounded more 'real' compared to the Simply 845. The Charlize puts the whole sound-stage into a much clearer and better perspective. With the Charlize, I was virtually transformed into the same hall where Patricia was performing. In comparison, the Simply 845 portrayed a somewhat smaller picture of the performance that I felt is not in the correct proportion.

The owner of the set-up was simply stunned by what he heard from the Charlize, which cost a fraction of what he paid for the Simply 845. I was told the speaker was rated at a low of 85dB.

damn its kinda tempting.... shocking.gif

unison research simply 845 was price at rm17k smile.gif now no more in production, pair with opera speaker the sound is pretty heavenly, i know cos i was a fan of it, and my father owned a simply 4

but then again, the above review might be a badly paired speaker and amp smile.gif
