I did jet spray tap water to the trunk, but it started to have algae.
Is there any chemical to remove the algae?
*
A couple of things to do. You can paint with the following(use art paint brush, not toothbrush):
1) Fungicide mix with water.
2) Clorox (very diluted) mix with water - this one be careful...

Brush, let it dry, then wash off.

Be careful that the chemical do not drip on the soil or else, roots may die. Be careful as well when you wash it off. I usually cover the soil with a layer of plastic bag before I paint or wash.

I find H2O2 quite effective to kill pest but not sure about algae/fungus.

But one thing ya, the algae is there because its wet. So after you clean, if the wetness still persist, it will come back.

There is another chemical... lime sulfur (diluted) also is used by some. But bonsailelong is right... chemical should be last resort. Fix the root cause first...

Here is a juniper that I got from MHY. Hope to push for branches closer to trunk before I style this tree as many branches have extended too far. This Japanese juniper color looks a bit different compare with the other Shimpaku that I have.

This plant 1/2 way pruning. Lower trunk thicken quite a bit using new method. Therefore can cut back. I guess can start on higher branches.

Those buxus are very nice. The photo does not do justice. If loo is our resident limau king, bonsailelong is our resident buxus king.. ;-)

Want to thank bonsailelong for his hospitality in hosting us last weekend. Its a nice experience and chat.

Otherwise wife says my garden too messy. Like planting shrubs only. So painful to hear after putting so much time LOL ....
Now have to do up the auto watering part.

Nice rack friend. Autowatering would be nice. Would look forward for your update. Looks like you have lots of space now... time to expand? wink.gif

Akadama is very hard to find here. We have pasir malang... a type of volcanic sand. Sanfong sells pasir malang.

Wah u so familiar with their trees & even remember the pricing! Hahaha...
Think I won't let this tree grow much unless I change the overall shape. I'll just rearrange the branches with wires.

From the picture, it seems the internal structure is weaken. ie. botak. Sometimes, constant pinching of tip can cause this in some species. But picture is be hard to see. Or could be root bound. This pot is original pot or repotted? If I am not wrong, original pot is smaller right?

Just to share. My friend got this surinam cherry from San Fong yesterday. Straight from nursery stock to pot. A little more work & it should look like a nice bonsai d. Love the bark. [attachmentid=3729846]

Must get this friend of your online to chit chat with us... ;-) heh heh...

This is a lovely species, nice bark and wonderful fruit(the looks). Eugenia Uniflora. Heard that the blood red ones that drop out when pluck are edible(meaning no need much force to pluck). You'll need to acquire the taste for the other colors. Good buy, Alvin's friend... ;-)

Just wish to update my experiment with Boric acid. Just got some a few weeks ago and started an experiment. How I use it is as follows:-
1) I mix a pack of sugar (those McD sugar pack). I think its about 1 tblspoon
2) Boric acid, a pinch or 2.
3) Mix with water, put in those soy sauce saucer (small ones).
4) Use taufufa container, cut a few holes at the bottom and cover the saucer (to prevent rain and water from diluting the concoction).

Results 1:(smaller ants near my Wrightia):
Day 1: Ants smell the sugar - starting to go to saucer to get sugar.
Day 2: Lots of ants near the saucer.
Day 3: Still have ants but significantly less.
Day 4-2 weeks: No more ants.

Result 2: (larger ants near my mulberry)
Day 1: Ants hardly notice the saucer. (I added more sugar that night)
Day 2: Ants start noticing and going to saucer.
Day 3: Lots of ants.
Day 4: Lots of ants. ( I worried, added more boric acid - 2 more pinch)
Day 5: Less ants but still quite a lot. (added 2 more saucer)
Day 6: 1-2 ants ( I think not because of the 2 added saucer)
Day 7-9: Didn't check.
Day 10-14: No more ants.
Day 15: Another type of ants attacked(smaller ones)
Day 16-18: No ants

Summary
I think boric acid is effective. RM8 for a whole bag. I use it by pinching (like cooking with salt). I think it will last me for a loooong time.

NOTE: I never spray anything on my plants/soil/whatever. So good for edible plants, where we don't need to put more chemicals into our body.

Conclusion
Highly recommended.

Go chinese ubat shop. Look for "peng sha". But not all carry this stuff. Heard from one shop that only during "ba chang" period he sells. I went to at least 5 shops to find one.

Something new to play with.

Should be a shui mei. If anyone can ID by looking it would be great!

I like the details on the trunk, however I'm thinking to cut off the 2nd bottom on the right branch to make it more like alternate branches. Any good suggestions?
*
Looks like sui mui, Wrightia Religiosa.

If you go by the book, ya, that branch probably should go. That region looks a bit crowded also.

However, just wondering, it looks like there is a bit of reverse taper. Is this the best front? Before you cut, perhaps choose the best front.

Thanks for the tips !  I should have looked closer, yes it is a Buxus Harlandii

Here is my boxwood, just cleaned up the moss on the trunk and joints, white vinegar and cotton buds did it, then used a jet spray later to clear it up.  Now waiting for a pot for repotting out of its broken pot ...
