QUOTE(Bonsailelong @ Feb 24 2013, 05:14 PM) Bought 3 pots of bonsai materials in Min Hoe Yuen yesterday. Bought another black pine, a Lavender purple star and a small Brazilian rain tree. But the nursery owner called it Asam Jawa. The purpose of buying another Black pine is to try out whether air layering can work with black pine in our climate or not. This is it, after the whole process of air layer works, and instead of using plastic sheet, a small plastic cup is used to contain the soil material. [attachmentid=3319540] .... and now just wait... Almost three and a half month now, it's time to check out he result. .. and ... WOW!!! Patience pay off. This post has been edited by Bonsailelong: Jun 29 2013, 07:47 PM |

Have not come across any Tamarind/asam jawa seedling for sale around Klang Valley or in Seremban. I Bought this Asam jawa from Min Ho Yuen Melaka. All thanks to Zabel As for the difference between Tamarind and Brazilian Rain tree. I guess we may be able to know from reading from the Internet only, unless somebody can post up to tell the differences. This post has been edited by Bonsailelong: Jul 7 2013, 05:36 PM |

QUOTE(ArNg @ Jul 7 2013, 04:50 PM) Don't mind a noob to comment. This is my first time using Indonesian volcanic soil. I have used it pure for premna, water jasmine, box wood and Barbados cherry without any problems. Hi ArNg, I guess volcanic soil can use to plant any thing...from vegetable to fruit trees. It's very fertile. I use it to try out on pine trees and turn out very well. As for other species, I only use for Boxwood and it turn out superb. But for Premna, I think you might get lots of big leaves. Correct me if I'm wrong 'cos I've never use it for Premna and others. BTW, hope you can post up some photos of your bonsai for sharing. I'm sure many of us would like to see the volcanic soil trees. |

QUOTE(ArNg @ Jul 8 2013, 11:00 PM) Hey guys. This is my juniper. I had this for about 3 years now but it does not seem to grow nor the needle is yellowing all around. When I scratch the bark it's brown like in the circle. Does not look healthy. Could it be the soil? I'm just using pure red soil. ![]() Your juniper looks healthy, but control your fertilizer not over apply. Here's is my suggestion to your tree. Re pot it and plant it with the apex vertically upwards. Wire and bring down the side branches a bit and make it looks like a cone shape. Cut away a few branches to make it look neat. However don't try to cut away too much of the roots or it can ended up like my cedar. Good luck |

![]() This is not a pine or juniper, lots of plant nursery owners just bluff their customers telling that it is pine or rare specie silver pine from Japan. It's actually a false cypress species called Sawara cypress. You can Google and find out more about it. |

QUOTE(joandee @ Jul 9 2013, 12:00 PM) I receive a bonsai as a gift 4 weeks ago. I water it daily and left it in a half sunlight area. I have zero idea what i need to do with it. Any advice on what fertiliser? Frequency of trimming and what to trim? Watering it daily, is it too often? It's grow on the upper tip of the plant but stunted on the rest of the pot. Can u post up your photo and hope I'm able to help. |

QUOTE(ArNg @ Jul 9 2013, 03:26 PM) Hi Bonsailelong. Is it ok to repot the juniper after a month and a half after repotting? I repot it that long ago and I don't see new pine growth. Is the trunk that dry? Looks lifeless. Will proceed with your suggestion of the style after your reply. Don't want to make any mistake that kill it later 😃 The box wood style looks good. Will proceed with that. Thanks a lot. Oh yeah. It's a false cypress. But hope it will turn out nice. Lol. Due to our weather condition, juniper usually take up to 3 months to show sign of growing after re potting. In your case, since you have reported it quite recently, I suggest you leave it for at least 5 months before doing anything. |

QUOTE(zabel8484 @ Jul 10 2013, 10:45 AM) Hi arng, I let it grew as tall as possible. The trunk below will get fat according to how tall the tree grow. After that u cut off the top n it will grow more shoots hence growing the fat trunk... That's my sharing Hi Zabel How's the "mother" Premna looks like now? |
