But my miserable JBP are full of yellow tip needle.

Could it be too hot down here?

Cedar - Initial Bonsai Shaping.

This 5 ft tall cedar has been decorated as Christmas Tree for a couple of years during Christmas season.

Attached Image

The faith of it to become Christmas tree again has ended but the chance to become an awesome bonsai has began. icon_idea.gif

Attached Image with more than 80% of the foliage cut off but with roots undisturbed...

Attached Image ..now planted in a big pot.... might take at least one year to recover before working on pruning the roots.

Hi all sifu,
I'm so happy finally got kakis for bonsai here. I'm pretty newbie to bonsai eventho I've read a bit on it. Bought a few from San Fong 2 years ago but didn't really look after them until quite recently. Since then I've been hooked on it. Bought a few more trees 2 weeks back tongue.gif...  Hope to learn more from the sifus. Great to know u all here. Took me 2 days to read the recent posts.

Hi Alvchin,

drool.gif u got quite some collection!

Nice cucur attap!

Attached Image

Give a suggestion on the dead wood preservation.

Sand paper or use fine wire brush the dead wood EXTRA carefully. If u break the wood .... cry.gif
Apply lime sulphur solution, when dry (usually over night) apply carefully 2 coats of colourless wood varnish.
Wood varnish can be bought from any hardware shop, it has water repelling effect.
If the dead wood have any rotten part, scrap the part off until solid wood.

Good luck to your nice Cucur attap!

In our region, even decent bonsai looking maple like this is hard to come by,
can you tell me where did you buy the maple?

Attached Image

"Silver pine" in Chinese is actually not a pine nor a juniper.
It's a False Cypress family called Boulevard False Cypress.
When plant directly under the sun, the foliage will turn green.
But under half shade condition, the foliage is silver in color.
I got this B. False cypress plant on ground which at one time I've mistaken it as a Casuarina.

Attached Image

For this one, if you can post up a clearer photo showing it's leaves and flowers, I might be able to identify it.

Ah?!! Haiya a cypress ka? False somemore. The seller told me it's pretty rare so ask me quickly grab. Ahahaha.
The maple I got from Sg Buloh kusta centre side. It was like dried up & the seller told me it's shedding & will grow again. I just have to trust him. Hahaha I just love to try my hands on at least 1 plant.
Some shots on the leaves to help id the plants.
Thanks again Bonsailelong.

Well, your "silver pine " is Boulevard False cypress for sure.
And the other one is a popular Indian flower which Indian use to present to their gods in prayer.
It's common name is Crape Jasmine and scientific name is Nandyarvattam.

Btw bonsailelong, I read an old post that u hv a white mulberry. How did it turn out? Easy to handle? I read that those large wound don't really heal.
*
thumbup.gif

Yip, I've few white mulberry.
Mulberry is described as the most terrible material for bonsai.
It just simple grows and grows, very very difficult for leaves ramification.
But every time you cut away the old branches, new branches and fruits come out.
But very soon it will be out of shape again.
For large wound, I'll say... never heal!
I'll take some shots and post up during this weekend.

Wow!! Geng chao!! Hahahaha. Me finally cannot wait & go right to the root of my cucur atap. The whole piece dead wood already rotted from the root & was held together by the soil. Not even the roots. So no choice, split the 2 apart. Now a bit funny & hopefully it lives to tell the story.

This 2 black pine (most likely Chinese) bought from Min Ho Yuen sometimes early February this year .

Attached Image

Some styling were done to them when they were brought home.

Attached Image Attached Image

After 3 months, these black pines shown remarkable adaptation to new environment, new candles and needles grow out well.
And so I decided to give them some shaping improvement ...
After making many considerations of which candle to cut and 4 hours of careful wiring and hard bending works... sweat.gif

At least look more like bonsai now. rclxm9.gif

Attached Image Attached Image

Placed back to the same location.

Attached Image ....before. Attached Image ...after.

Hi Alvchin,

Attached Image

Not bad even without the dead wood.
It will be better if your cucur attap can have some foliage ramification works.

Ramification ... That's all missing from my plants :lol
My cucur atap had been unhealthy for a while. That's y I decided to dig right up to the root. The soil did not have much drainage I guess which causes the bottom to rot. Didn't have much roots actually. I hope it'll survive.

thumbup.gif

If I've not noticed wrongly, your soil might have problem.
If you have bought your cucur attap from Sanfong, you can notice that all Sanfong's cucur attap are planted with sand.
