QUOTE(revolter @ Sep 17 2008, 02:48 PM)
still looking for wireless broadband..
im a totally a heavy downloader..
using megaupload premium to download..
before this using streamyx 1.0 mbps package at home..
now at my uni, the internet was suck..cant dl drama any more..

so, does celcom bb have any limited dl before the reduce the speed??
used to hear about 5gb limit before speed capped..

if so, even when im using MU??
*
celcom will throtle your speed after exceeding 5gig bandwidth usage every month.. so, if you are using 5gig on the first day, then you will experiencing very slow connection (or sometime cannot connect at all) for the next 29 days until next month.. so, please use wisely icon_idea.gif

but so far, celcom not so strict about that, that is why some user still can surf/download as usual even after they exceed the 5gig limit.. but celcom technical department now are about to start to throtle your speed. so, beware soon!

5GB bandwidth inclusive ingoing and outgoing bandwidth, but this is based on your luck. You may or may not being capped. icon_rolleyes.gif Some user already reach 100GB without getting capped

Hi. I'm thinking of getting the RM68 package for my sister in law who's studying in Melaka. my question is:

1) why is the broadband basic package + free modem = RM99/mth not recommended? is it cuz of the contract period?

2) if i opt for the RM68 basic package only, will i still need to get a modem? RM500 for a modem is quite expensive la.

3) or maybe can just use handphone? she's using Sony Ericsson W580..no 3G, not sure bout HSDPA. so still can use?

4) for the basic package rm68, how much do I need to pay initially? no deposit needed?

Thanx!

- If u subcribe the package, u can't terminate any time coz u bond to 18mth contact. tongue.gif
- if u insist to terminate, a surcharge RM 350 will be penalize. cry.gif
- adversely if u buy a modem first (~RM 350) then u can terminate any time without surcharge & u can resell to other that need to be next victim of slow connection. doh.gif
- h/p is not advice to use coz will shorten the batt life & also connection respond is slower. whistling.gif
- first time u have to paid RM68 jus like prepaid then after that is postpaid for the following mth if u hav the modem. cool2.gif

thx for your reply boboy! haha. i'm a bit worried about your point #3...do u mean that I'll almost certainly get slow connection speeds using Celcom broadband with the RM350 modem??? Anywhere also the same or only in certain places? and what if i buy another modem that's better or more expensive?

- ok, let say after u subcribe, u find out the connection is a bit slow (GPRS speed) coz no/less coverage, then u can terminate anytime. Then the modem in ur hand u can resell to others who want to start new package.

- regarding the coverage & speed of certain area, u have to go to nearest celcom centre to check it out. Don be shy, ask them 'kao kao' until they feel u fussy....haha. flex.gif

- current everyone using huawei E220 that u can get in the forum (~RM 350) which same model with celcom selling (RM 499), If u prefer better one jus go ahead, nothing will block u as long u got $$ brows.gif

I was using Sony Ericsson M600i until I sold it and bought a Huawei USB after upgrade from D68 to D98. Both handphone and Huawei same fast response, but only thing is, the handphone will hang after using more than 6 hours or sometimes 12 hours for heavy torrent. FYI I have used 64Gb about half a month time. No capped.

Currently i also subcribe streamyx 512 but going to terminate it since my company only let me choose either one.

what i can say stramyx is
- streamyx more stable (at my place) but slower compare to 3G when u open youtube, download never try yet. tongue.gif
- no mobility
- no raining/cloud affected
- no flexibility (contract 1 or 2 yr)

You can use it instantly without following 'waiting for activation' policy. whistling.gif Before this I register and can use within 2 hours.

to know your d98 already working or not is call your d98 number. if the answer is 'the number is not in service' too bad better go to celcom branch.
