total newbie here.. should i use iA then P&S for most of the time while getting myself familirize with this new camera ?
*
Erm, I'm not sure about other people.
But if you got plenty of time, try to use the Shutter/Aperture priority or Manual control to take pictures. That will allow you to familiarize more with the camera.

As for IA mode, use it if you think you need fast P&S with clear images.

I'm a camera n00b too so don't take my comments for granted laugh.gif

Eh, I tried HDTV movie just now.

I started recording the Pizza I was holding about 0.5 feet away from the camera.
Then I continue to record my cousins eating their pizza about 4 foot away.

But the camera did not auto zoom the lens and my cousins were blur in the movie.

What's wrong ar?

Is it because I turn the focusing to manual and the lens did not autozoom properly ...

EDIT: CRAZY CAM ... 48 sec of HDTV = 110 MB of your harddisk space.

u guys interested to learn every inch of the camera shud try n c if u can download the Leica D-Lux4 manual. It is extremely detailed explaining all functions. The LX3 manual is more like mickey mouse book with hardly any explanation.
*
Hell yeah! The LX3 manual is crap ...
EDIT: is it out? Looks like it's not out yet. I checked the official website.

Some shots of my very first LX3....

How to make the cactus very sharp and the surrounding are blur...
*
What I tried ... is I set the aperture value to 2.0
Then put macro auto focus, then put it near to the object (if the background is very near as well)

If the background is quite far, then it will definitely blur out.

Read that, done that, and it works. But I still have no idea how to make the background completely blur ... is that possible with this LX3 ?

You guys interested in modding ur own Ricoh LC1 lens caps for the LX3, I've just written a step by step guide here  with pics n video too.
Step by step guide for Ricoh LC-1 auto lens cap on LX3

Make sure ur recording in HD ya. Got resolution setting in there 1. It may be recording in lower resolution without u knowing. The video recording cannot zoom 1.
U cannot do proper bokeh shots with LX3 eventhough it's f2. This is due to the puny lil sensor size.  DOF is too massive with these lil sensors.
*
WOW ! I appreciate that Ricoh LC-1 mod guide !! thumbup.gif

Yeah it's in HD, but even if I'm recording 6** x 4** movies, it wouldn't come out blur right?
I'll test it again tomorrow and see if's because I set it to manual focus or not ...

The shop owner told me never use thin wrist strap to tie heavy cameras ...

I exchanged my bag for the Lowepro Edit 100 ...
PERFECT bag for LX3 ...
chargers, extra batt, sdcards along with the camera all can dump inside the bag. thumbup.gif

But it's abit bulky ... That's what happens when your camera is not big nor small laugh.gif

Dont cut the ori strap man. U WILL need it while travelling. That's y I cut off the custom red leather wrist strap I made. Coz hanging round the neck is safest against pick pockets, also fast n easy to turn on n snap.

There's another style of straps actually. U can google the Leica neck strap. It's like my wrist strap but longer so u can hang round the neck. It's got an SD card holder on the strap too. It attacehs to 1 side of the cam only.

But I've already got a pouch that can hang around my shoulder ... Still not enough ?

Zooming closes the aperture smaller right?
Then you need longer shutter speed to compensate for a properly lighted picture.

I'm not too sure ... cus when I zoom with my LX3, the aperture value went down from f2.0 to f2.1

maybe this picture is neutral

compared to original

My assumption is the picture is taken in the evening

The left one definitely doesn't look natural (I'm not saying neutral, I'm saying natural) because the sky colour belongs to the afternoon.

While the right one is a bit yellowish green.

BTW I've got the martin fields screen protector and it's marvelous !

1 question. If I'm taking at shutter speed of 1/2000 or lower. Exposure time is not enough unless I turn on the flash?
