For portugese food.....zomg, this place is UN-FREAKINGBEATABLE.
It's not even in the portugese settlement. It's at ujong pasir as well....opposite petronas, slightly before. There's a place called god knows what "Lina seafood" or something. You can't miss it.

try the stone fish (steamed) and prawns (butter and garlic) and crabs.
Orgasmic isn't even the right word. IT was.....rawr!
*
are you talking about the "Happy Satay"? The shop just reopened early this month after fire 2 months ago hmm.gif

The roasted chicken wings there not bad but long time didnt try there liao, dunno the price now.

Popiah & wan tan mee (they are sisters) formerly were selling at Moonluck, I love the popiah last time, dunno the taste now.

Popiah at Bkt Cina at night, same shop with the famous wan tan mee, very nice coz got ba you poh, of course not halal blush.gif

Yup i'm staying at TTU.
The ikan bakar nice meh? AFAIK, I tried crystal bay de ikan bakar (ikan hantu...stingray, haha) but it was so-so only. They got a row of shops there, which on is better? I know I love their deep fried stringray (awesome, eat it with cartilage and all), udang goreng butter and deep fried sotong. Seems like all fried, haha.
*
I ate once at first shop, dunno what fish but cooked "tiga rasa", taste good. Sotong goreng also good.

u have suggested deep fried stingray, i will try this week coz never try b4, very crispy?

ya lo, all fried, luckily I no need to talk in the forum otherwise sure become mute very soon rclxm9.gif

Yup. It's erm, quite interesting at first, cos you are literally eating the bone of the stingray. I din know it will be nice also when my fren first recommended it to me. But after the second time, I wouldn't eat my stringray any other way =P. The cartilage becomes very soft, but not completely la, can still taste it.

*
ya, sure will try the deep fried stingray. how to say "deep fried" in malay? is "goreng ikan hantu" good enough to order that dish?

I second that. I also officially give up on Malaccan fish. Something wrong with it, dunno why. I only eat sotong and prawns, the prawn here dem big, haha. I think they export all the stuff and leave the crap for the locals to eat.

Furthermore, the hawker fare here is really...#*$&. In Penang you can expect to see prawns and actual meat, but here all love to use oren colour sotong ball (i tot was carrot, haha), white colour fish ball, brown colour dunno-wat-balls. Everything they put is processed, no authentic meat whatsoever! And on top of that they charge you RM3.50, RM4 a plate, siao! The char koay kak here also...zzz...cannot taste carrot whatsoever and have to pay extra just for EGG. >.<. Dunno why people say Melaka is a food heaven...aside from certain seafood, chicken rice and nyonya food, its hell. And you don't always eat the former.

*
ya, the prices of food in Melaka is getting expensive, we must thank all the tourists for this great achievement notworthy.gif

I never heard anybody talks about Melaka is a food heaven, never b4. Melaka only famous with few speciality foods like chicken rice ball, satay celup, oh jian, nyonya food, cendol...but strongly disagree with u that melaka is a food hell. Penang is a food heaven, everyone knows it but can u guarantee 100% of Penang foods are very good taste? to be honest, Penang food taste drops so much compare to last time, this is based on my own experience, visited there 10 years ago & recently. No comment on price coz price sure more expensive compare to 10 years ago & location is the factor also. Can u say KL & JB food is cheap or expensive compare to melaka or penang? u cant compare coz it's the std price in big towns. this is why salary in KL is slightly better than other places coz many tolls, car park fee expensive, high std of living...

in conclusion, melaka has many nice food & "nice" is very subjective, we think it's nice doesnt mean everyone will like it. Like the char kuih teow in melaka, we use to add "sweet sauce" (ti jiu), but northern ppl dun like it, so u cant say its not nice. when we eat char kuih teow in penang, they dun have ti jiu but we Malaccan never complained. I have a penang friend who has been staying in melaka for more than 10 yrs, she told me she found ti jiu very funny to eat with char kuih teow coz sweet but now she uses to eat with ti jiu already. if 9 persons say the food is nice, 1 says lousy, then it's still consider nice, only not suit the other 1 taste...

Yeah I was thinking of Crystal Bay but that;s not touristic & bot portuguesi style. So decided on Portugues since most of them never beein to the settlement b4

Well atleast now confirmed that non of the stalls at the settlement are nice...even the best of the best

BTW, Y'day nite I tapao & ate the bestest Ocien in Mleka - Bunga Raya -30min wait...& ....Not nice anymore!!! Ocien super small eating more rice flour & egg rather than ocien!! Failed liao!!! The newton FC wth it's bigger sized ocien but KL pricing much better.. smile.gif

Going out soon to try the Ping Ming under the tree CR ball...latest news I heard from my mum, The hainanese owner passed away liao..now operated by Cantonese wife & sons  hmm.gif
*
ya, I just went there makan on last Friday night. I like the udang bakar, but not cheap, RM55/kg, i think is market price. My malay colleagues dun work part time there liao, last time he can give discount I like their coconut jelly. Steamed siakap taste not good, maybe malay style, the gravy very keruh, still feel chinese steam is nicer. ordered ikan kembong bakar kunyik, ok only. I will try ikan kembong bakar tepung next time.

The otak-otak failed, dun order. It's sweet and red color like coloring one, the worst otak-otak that I've ever had

Portugese settlement is for tourists, so u must bring your outstation frenz there to let the shops ketuk their money

The Bunga Raya O Jian is famous for "waiting", I never tried although I am a Malaccan coz they very lan si, what for I pay money to waste time and buy lan si? I recommend u try Oh Jian at Bandar Hilir, "Hong Hai" (Read Ocean), selling at roadisde in front a hawker stall before Old Newton, he formerly sell at Bandar Hilir facing ocean when Mahkota Parade & Melaka Raya was still ocean.

The CRB beside Ping Ming is the one I recommended - Lian Jie, also introduced by Ho Chak.

OK, this Morning visited The Melaka locals favourite Chicken rice ball - ping Ming under the big tree Chicken rice...suprising Ho Chak team was there before..  shocking.gif

Location beside Ping Ming Primary GPS location: N2 12.347 E102 15.191

[attachmentid=1317170][attachmentid=1317172]

Well, sorry to dissapoint the locals but puchong chicken rice (w/out ball) much better  sad.gif ..The chicken is not as soft as Chung Wah & none better than any Ipoh Taugeh chicken rice tenderness & softness.. The rice...nothing compare to Chung wah...Well...I think another hoh chak bo hor chiak case liao  shakehead.gif ..Price, The chicken meat is so littel for 3 & at RM12.50..It's similar to Puchong pricing but less chicken!! I finished the chicken but my rice still kenot finish!

Compare this to Chung Wah que...Chung Wah is expensive (More than KL pricing but the aroma of the rice & the que ... thumbup.gif I will choose Chung Wah......

[attachmentid=1317185]
*
The CRB beside Ping Ming (Lian Jie) is not that bad, the price is RM3.30 per person (drum stick is RM3.70 per person) but I dunno why u said the chicken meat very less, I went 2 times, latest was last month, both times also served us more chicken than rice, rice finished b4 chicken finished, so need to add rice (balls). but if u talk about chicken not soft enuf, then I got no comment coz I love chicken breast, and chicken breast is always a bit hard, so cant really compare & maybe u r right icon_rolleyes.gif

Chung Wah CRB was the best in melaka but the quality seems drop liao, maybe their parents made was better than the 2nd generations...but it's still better than Ho Kee & Ku Chen CRB and yes, its price is very expensive, maybe due to its location.
