APC ups 650VA rm340.

I need a reliable minimum failure to backup my photo, video and important file. And at the same time can access my file easlly anywhere. Torrent too.

So got to choose 409+ instead 209+. 4HDD is more reliable than 2HDD. Beside I get cheaper and almost same price as 209+. thumbup.gif

US ebay lah. But courier charge you have to think yourself.

I brought it after christmas last yrs. US ebay have free delivery between their own state. (not all item) So free delivery to my relative in US. Than bought back by my mother. Cheap NAS + free courier charge = cheap cheap NAS. tongue.gif

Yes. I intend to run it on raid5. 1HDD fail, swap it and generate back the data.

2HDD still ok. But I cannot expand the HDD space. Max is only 2TB with raid 1. (depend on HDD size)

With 4HDD, I can get 6TB with raid 5. Can last me 3-4yrs before fill up.

To increase the reliable, I brought the samsung slow 5400rpm HDD. Hope less failure per price ratio.

For your infor, don't get the WD green HDD if you raid it. Either you get the WD raid HDD which 2x more expensive.

Never mind, I'm almost convince. Just wan to know:-
1. about the 409+, is able to do use apps to direct download from sites like rapidshare, hotfile and megaupload?
2. With 4HDD, I can get 6TB with raid 5, hmm.gif That means all must be 1.5TB identical model and make, is that correct?

1) All synology model can do all this DL. Not just 409+. The firmware is same for all the model. Just some function enable and disable for certain model. But I don't have experience using rapishare and others direct DL. I m using torrent.

2) All HDD must be same size. In my case is 2TB HDD x 4pcs in raid 5= 6TB + 1 HDD for fault tolerance. (Actual usable size is 5.44TB) Not neccessary same model and brand. But advise make it same. You can mix HDD size and use "synology std raid" to raid it. This advantage is for you to replace the HDD 1 by 1 without hurt your wallet. And still can max out the HDD size.

* Yesterday start upgrade my 409+ to 4 HDD, format to raid 5 and connect to new APC UPS. Still formating till now. Already more than 14hr. Damn slow. yawn.gif UPS running find which show correct ups model and remain 1875sec. Or 30min backup time.

Now don't no how to migrate the data to new HDD. hmm.gif

Last Wednesday went to Low Yat Plaza....looking for Seagate Black Armor NAS440 for my office use. After 2 hours scouting around....I don't see anyone selling this NAS. blush.gif Any idea where to get it and how much??

Any other NAS suggestion instead of this Seagate??I mean with higher speed(both read & write) in a gigabit environment....

My office is just a small one with 5 staffs. However, needs lots of storage for pictures and 3D files. And of course to prepare for the future and torrent also...huhuhu

Thanks in advance..
