Well. I got it for RM1250 cash from the IT Mall PJ. The software is the WHS, version unknown, but in the beginning of booting up the software thru remote console, it goes online to update all the WHS files with the latest update files.

From what I know, WHS has not received new version for quite some time. Its still based on 2003 Window Server Software.

Been waiting for a long time for somebody to give a review on this product's performance. Possible? With some specs and photos? laugh.gif

Actually I've been advice by other between the 2 brands, Synology is better. Was told it has better software - user friendly and update often, and have better built quality. I wonder how true?

Darknite, right now I don't have any internet connection to my house as yet. I may write better review once the Acer has gone through some decent test.

So far, it works well. I plug it in, connect it to the switch with initial detection problem, but it works well after that. The detection problem may well be due to the non-configurable Dlink gigabit switch rather than the Server itself.

Installed the Window Home Server (Whs) console software on my laptop with no issue. Once it detect the server, warning came asking me to update and initialise the antivirus (McAfee) that comes with the Whs. Other than that it does what it does as described.

There are lots of info about controlling Whs on the web, one can search for WHS addin from google to know more. For me, since I haven't been able to hook to the internet, I haven't done much on it. I plan to install Utorrent in it as a torrent server in due course.

Added in another 2TB Samsung hardisk (cost RM375) from IT Mall Sec 14 PJ. Then booted it up, the server can recognise the disk with no problem. I have to manual right click the disk to be used as home server storage space in order to use it. So far so good.

With the gigabit switch, i can stream BD ISO to a distant HTPC with no problem from the server.

To read more of this product, currently there are not many website that review the items. But you may search for older siblings - Acer Aspire Easystore H340 Review, which is very similar to the new H342 except with faster duo chip. Function wise its exactly the same.

Darknite, this unit cannot run software or hardware based Raid. But the Whs does comes with duplicator option to duplicate the data. So when I add in the 2TB disk, when I right click to configure the disk, I will have the option of turning it into storage disk (hence increase my default space from 1TB to 3TB), or to turn into duplication disk, which will back up my existing 1TB of data instead.

WD comes with 4TB which costs around 800 in total. This means the 4 bay raid 5 capable enclosure only costs 1000.

I can't find any 4 bay raid 5 enclosure on market that costs 1k only.

For the software part, I use openVPN to connect to servers in US/cyberjaya/etc to do my bt download and I going setup an atom PC to handle that.
I am also going to setup at DC++ hub to serve file within Malaysia uniFi users.
If someone can tell me an enclosure that has a build in openVPN function with customizability of a PC, I can consider other brands.

Got online review says WD sharespace is SLOW. Maybe I should build an ATOM PC with a RAID controller instead.

Why don't just get 1 that can handle all which don't need a pc?

Compuzone price state RM1800.
Until now I still don know which enclosure can handle bt/download over openVPN without a PC.

If you can ignore the RAID 5, Acer H342 4 bay suit your criteria.
