I'm in the dark here regarding the pawning tools for the iPhone as I used ZiPhone 3.0 for my iPhone. So if I were to use firmware 2.0, I'll simply restore to that firmware than let the WinPwn do the unlocking/jailbreaking/activating process? I like the default state for my iPhone, doesn't really keen on doing mods to the files.

nope, u can straight away restore ur iphone WITH customized 2.0 fw
just wanna share to new comer of 2.0, do resize ur partition(disk01/ disk02) carefully as the default setup(500mb) might not enuff if u installed more games/ apps. currently still dont have bosstool, so be wise  |

If you're not in the rush to jump to firmware 2.0, just hold on for awhile and wait for more apps to be ported on Installer and Cydia. Should be soon i hope.

Also, the WinPwn is not that stable after all. Users are reporting getting error 16xx everytime they launch iTunes. Installer 4.0 is not yet available, just be patient for a moment while.

Guys, just a note, I've been hanging out on the OSX86 IRC channel for quite sometime now, and it looks like NO ONE there is even coming close to recommending the use of the current WinPwn release, as far as reliability and bugs are concerned. The creator by the name of cmw is currently asleep in his timezone and will get to work on the bugfixes in a couple of hours time.
Until then, it has been highly advised to not try the current release of WinPwn just yet. For Windows users, fret not, instead of WinPwn, I'd suggest trying xPwn 0.9.3 or xWinPwn 0.3 for the time being. I just used xPwn on mine and it worked out great. But beware, it's more command-line than GUI, so be prepared  |

currently im playing the wait and see game as many 3rd party applications on 2.0 has yet to be upgraded from 1.1.4.. until the day comes ( i foreseen it could be in a few months) then i switch to 2.0. Many applications are still tested for an upgrade..as gengstapo mentioned the likes of Boss applications too still hv yet to be upgraded to 2.0 so i think its best to wait

Hi Guys,
for those who have succesfully upgraded to 2.0 using this Winpawn, did u UNCHECK the following? - Activate Phone - Baseband updates The reason I'm asking is because the guide seems to show unlocking for an AT&T carrier (that's why they recommend to uncheck it?) but we're using the phone in Malaysia? My 1.1.4 phone baseband has already been downgraded to BL 3.9 using Ziphone a few months ago..so do I need to do the baseband updates in WinPwn? OR do we follow exactly as in the guide? i choose the cydia & youtube fix, i went all the way successfully create p@wnd ipsw. ff8ong case, he didnt even able to repack the customized ipsw, where error "failed to create ipsw...", something like that

Just follow the tutorial from iclarified u should be fine..
I have tested the apps all are fine but sumtime i need to reboot the phone when the apps return to springboard.. after reboot everthing ok.. The best thing about the upgrade 2.0 is that i don't need to redial again & again when calling, one try the call when through... I guess maxis is trying to fix this with the current 3G and 2.0 firmware since they are "bringing in" iphone to m'sia (rumours only) |

Guys, the latest release of WinPwn, 2.0.0.3 has been said to fix many of the 160x errors you guys have been facing, as well as iPwner's problem getting into iTunes. If anyone here still has problems getting WinPwn to work, I would strongly advise trying xPwn 0.9.5 by geeb > DOWNLOAD HERE <.
It's a little more of a cross-platform command line utility compared to WinPwn and PwnageTool, but overall it doesn't have all the bugs and probems which still plague WinPwn, as I have personally experienced under a week ago, especially for those who are having problems packaging the custom IPSW. Remember to read both the HTML guide and README.txt before attempting anything. |

Here's what I understand, using WinPwn actually mod the stock firmware to do stuff like activating, unlocking, jailbreaking, and modding. So after restore using the custom firmware we're good to go?
Before putting iPhone into DFU mode and restore, must install BootNeuter and neuter it right? |

Before restore the custom firmware on the phone, run BootNeuter and then should I restore back to 1.1.4 stock firmware and then proceed with another restore with custom firmware? That's alot of work.

hows things? ive downloaded the necessary files n done up to ipsw create files..from there i hv yet to ipwner it hehe as wat i read on mikelee's im quite concern on the bootneuter stuff..and im assuming the same thing as mikelee and if its right then we might hv to download bootneuter(provided it runs on 2.0) then bootneuter it? great work uve been doing gengstapo..trying things out..can u list down applications(3rd party) that has been upgraded to 2.0? cheers mate  |

During a downgrade, iTunes will retain the newer baseband if it finds that the baseband in the IPSW being used is older.good luck What this means is, your iPhone's baseband is not restored or overwritten everytime you perform a Restore in iTunes, which is why in the days of AnySIM, we were only required to unlock our phone once, and wouldn't have to do it again even after restores of the SAME firmware. In the current scenario, PWNING requires the baseband along with the firmware to be PRE-unlocked and patched prior to restoring the phone. This means the stock 2.0 baseband (04.05.04_G) cannot be unlocked once installed, but instead has to be 'uninstalled' and reinstalled using the unlocked version. As fore mentioned, downgrading to 1.1.4 will NOT downgrade the baseband, but instead it will allow you to use Bootneuter to 'Neuter' your phone and downgrade the baseband for you back to 04.04.05_G. After doing that, restoring your phone using the custom package will allow iTunes to install the new, patched and unlocked 04.05.04_G baseband. And only then will your phone be unlocked. Phew, I believe I've just spewed out more than a mouthful. If you're like me and were still on 1.1.4 without having accidentally upgraded to the stock 2.0 prior to the upgrade to 2.0, then you can just get straight to the Pwning and restoring using the custom package. Just include BootNeuter and the Neutering process in your custom package, no Neutering required before Pwning, I assure you Hopefully that clarifies things for you, Mike. All the best! Yup. Successfully upgraded from 1.1.4 to 2.0 Wee!
Hm.. The desktop doesn't seem to rotate as we rotate the iPhone as shown in videos.. Its quite laggy.. Especially when I am in Settings or Cydia(Scrolling is even laggish) Not much apps. Only occurs noticeably in certain areas like tapping on tabs and contacts for me, about 2 seconds delay. Keyboard on 2G iPhone is still fairing fine, so the lags are tolerable thus far. almost 2weeks with 2.0, never have pr0blem, only small 1 such cydia jump into desktop/ lil' lag while scrolling sms(already alot) might got some1 else have the idea.. |

As for now i think i'll wait for further development of 2.0 (as i was told my reliable source(very reliable) the current problem of 2.0 apps were not due to the apps but to 2.0 firmware itself) so until 2.0.x is out and more stable then i would consider meself to pawn it..further to it i never like cydia haha so i do hope installer for 2.0 is out soon..i will watch this thread closely as to when is the best time for me to do my phone hehe cheers guys!!  |

Bugged by the infamous error 1604. Did all the necessary steps i feel. pwn the iTunes, put into DFU mode, yada yada yada...

) yet i think i did made a mistake on winpawn whereby my BL is already 4.6 and i tried to reflash it again on 4.6..im not sure if its unfortunate or fortunately Bootneuter unable to flash my BL(prolly coz im already on 4.6) so far i hv no problem yet(i hope not forever) on BL, signal seems fine(telco) wifi is good(owh yeah downloading via cydia and how cydia has changed!) and now downloading bosspref as to relocate files out of /root.... things look gewd!!  |

Thanks for the heads up. I'm actually quite surprise to see that most of the apps I have had on 1.1.4 are in App Store or at least they're similar ones available. Waiting for customize and SMB to be ported to 2.0 and that would completes everything. Can't wait to start purchasing apps. My debit card registration has not gone thru yet. anyone here stay in Penang n know how to upgrade to 2.0 FW?
now i manage to create custom 2.0 fw but im using xpwn method...but i still cant get my iphone to restore to custom 2.0 fw... i also try to use custom 2.0 fw created by xpwn n use ipwner to pwn itune and dfu mode to restore 2.0 fw but end up same... error 6, 13... anyone here can help? i really follow iclarified step by step... |

What this means is that the DFU exploit has already been patched into your phone, AKA your phone has already been Pwned prior to the restore. Basically, if your phone has been Pwned before, future restores will no longer require that you put your phone into DFU mode, or even Pwning iTunes. Recovery Mode, as you have experienced, will work perfectly fine. Appreciate your advice Thanks However, this will only apply is you ONLY restore using Pwned IPSWs. Once you've restored using a stock firmware file, the Pwn will revert, and you'll have to do the DFU procedure again.Hope that helps! It just keeps rebooting n shows the white apple then starts scrolling lotsa jibberish for about 30 secs then goes back to reboot n does teh same thing over n over again.

u just need once into DFU mode when u upgrade/ downgrade the firmware
if u doing restore within same firmware, no need to go into DFU mode, recovery mode is enuff |

any how, have u been experience any typing lag or anything negative so far gengstapo? since ur the oldest upgraded 1st gen with 2.0 firmware. im on texting almost 150+ msg per day so typing lag will give a hell out of me... so far i don't have this bug/problem *sweat*

Anyone have problems with Maxis's EDGE after upgrading to 2.0 using Winpwn on 1st gen iPhone? I notice that I lose network signal quite often and the EDGE signal goes on and off too. Sometimes, I'm forced to restart the iPhone just to get back the EDGE signal.

sweet, here is my report on 1st day using firmware 2.0
im a sms freak users so far have no lag on keyboard when typing a msg or open the contact. appstore application seems to be so great and i never stop downloading it to use it. i have several crashes. it happen when i was driving to sunway, my pre-installed camera was crash. i had hang on sms once and hope it doesn't happen again. cydia was cool and it also allow to resume any unfinished download! how about that guys.. installer should had this future if they wanted to beat cydia. games like crash bandicot, super monkey ball and enigma seems to be addictive. i cant stop playing it! *sweat* so far i dint touch any media part, the music and movies or clip. maybe i'll try next time and see how it goes. |

my mail doesnt work after pwnage.....
it crashes everytime....even if i wanna delete my account it crashes as well... youtube doesnt work either..... any help? EDIT: Both problem solved mail problem 1. Restore your phone (back it up before restore) 2. Once phone is restored, the iTunes iPhone welcome screen comes on (set up as new account, restore from previous phone). Leave it alone. 3. Disconnect the phone. The home screen should pop up. Click on the Mail app. This is where it should have been crashing, but now you can see the logos (Yahoo, GMail, AOL, etc.). Click on one of the icons, then click cancel to get back to the home screen. 4. Plug in phone. See iTunes iPhone welcome screen again. 5. Click Restore. 6. Mail should work now. U try using EDGE or GPRS n type will usually be slow n laggy but when on home WIFI there's usually no lag at all in typing speed. That's what I noticed, dunno if u guys same thing. |

darn , i cant get my phone to dfu mode , i hold the home and power button for 10 secs and release the power button , the screen just goes black. then nothing happen

Checkout http://www.winpwn.com, they've updated some screenshot on WinPwn 2.5. I can't wait for it!
Keyboard typing on SMS is always laggy, apps do crash, scrolling are buggy and turning to landscape mode in iPod, Safari, and Photos takes quite awhile at times. Hope that firmware 2.0.1 will fix this problems. |

Gengstapo, how much did you allocate your root partition when you did your custom firmware 2.0?
Any recommendation as to how much to allocate? 1GB - 2GB? Just a suggestion, maybe Firmware 2.0 users can recommend a simple standard as to how much we should allocate root partition for 8GB and 16GB iphones. Cheers |

at 1st, i allocate about 1gb, after bosstools released, i re-pwn my phone at default setup(500mb).
i would suggest to use the default setting |

ive upgraded to iphone 2.0 firmware (via PwnageTools on the Mac) and had no major issues. i dont get that 16XX errors that some guys here encounter but i do get a prompt saying: "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?" i just click Cancel. i however cannot get Remote to work with my itunes 7.7.1 (on the WinXP PC) when i turn on Remote on the iphone and choose "Add Library" a 4-digit passcode pops up and when i enter the 4-digit passcode into itunes it goes into "Verifying Remote Passcode" after about 30 secs it goes back to asking for the passcode again. i had no problem connecting to the mac's itunes (7.7.1 also) though. am i missing something?  |

ok now. good news. winterboard (summerboard for 2.0) are now download able via cydia and lots of theme are ready for u guys to snatch. most of the summerboard theme has been converted and work with 2.0 though. but still, not sure about 2.0.1 firmware yet.

I'm in the middle of upgrading to 2.0 firmware, but having trouble to locate the 2.0 iPhone firmware (2G iPhone 2.0 5A34). Folders that link me to the download on iClarified or others all contain 2 .dmg files that need password. Where can i get this .ipsw file? Many thanks.. Updates: im now on 2.0 firmware!!! Duh, it had to happen to me. I tried to upgrade to Firmware 2.0 and I got the 1604 error. What am I supposed to now? Use Ziphone/iLiberty back to 1.1.4 or download another WinPwn. Arghhhh!!!!!

if i want to update now..whis ispw that i need to use,(winpawn 2.0.3) 1,1_2.0.1_5B108 or 1,1_2.0_5A347? or maybe i use the 5A347 then update with itunes?like that?

im using 1,1_2.0_5A347 for my 2g Iphone(1.1.4 firmware), itune 7.7.0.43 and winpwn 2.0.0.3 RC1 . ive manage to create the Custom-iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore file in the pwnage directory, pwned the itunes and when i use the restore from itune, it gaves that 1604 error on xp. now im trying this on vista and i follow all the steps again, this time it gives me this 'unknown error (9)' instead. pls advice

Just remember to Ipwner the itunes and set Auto lock to OFF...
Before this i getting same error because i never did what above.. |

my iphone now only show the itune logo with cable each time i turn it on, how to set tat auto lock now? do i have to restore to 1.1.4 again?

In my case, the problem was with the iphone not in DFU mode.
If u see the USB cable and the iTunes logo on the screen, you're in RECOVERY mode and NOT DFU mode. When your iPhone is in DFU mode, the screen in BLACK. Hope this helps. yes im quite sure its on the state of DFU (blank screen) and then the itunes will ask me to restore the firmware. This is what ive done :
i started the iphone on DFU mode close the itunes start the winpwn IPSW Builder, selecting install cydia, youtube activation, activate iphone, enable baseband update, neuter bootloader, unlock baseband. build .ipsw then iPwner with the custom file start the itune restore with the custom file errors, errors zzz..... |

Hmm, i build my custom firmware without the iphone plugged in.. I doubt that matters though.
However I did not check cydia. Oh when I failed to upgrade to V2.0, I actually restored it to 1.1.4 but did not run it through Ziphone. I just re-PawNed it. Maybe that helps? Good luck! |

finally after 7 hours of torturing moments i managed to upgrade the firmware2.0 . i think it was something wrong with my windowxp and vista, so i decided to reinstall windowxp in my other hd. do all the required steps and voila 2.0 . thanks all

if u have the latest bootloader, it will prompt fail. if u tick upgrade bootloader it will automatically upgrade from 3.9 to 4.6 (correct me if im wrong).

i have successfully built 2.0 ipsw file with 2.0.0.4...yeah...but very laggy...
