what it actually different between jailbreak and unlock ?

Christmas came early, You can jailbreak unlock first gen iphones but not 3g iphones. Only jailbreak for the latter.

Can someone please in Malaysia host the iphone 2.0 firmware? Its extremely slow on the Apple site (I wonder why..)

jailbreak = allows you to use the functions of the phone EXCEPT making a phone call.
unlock = unlocks the phone so you can use the phone with any carrier.

I am def a happy camper this weekend. Found my computer is completely compatible with the new Mac boot loader boot-132 so I'm going to put Mac OSX on the PC, and now iPhone Jailbreak/unlock is out.

I'm still going to wait until somebody here reports that he successfully do this.

I just manage to pwnage 2.0 firmware on my 1st generation iPhone :-)

Successfully unlocked, jailbreak & activate my 1st gen iphone 8GB. just follow the instructions. Note that i do put my iphone in DFU mode after pwnage, because after upgradeded to 2.0 firmware via itunes, i think it's considered never being pwn?

pwnage 2.0 is a mac os based software and for windows known as winpwn 2.0 (yet to be release). correct it if im wrong

From a comment at TUAW. I guess Installer 4.0 isnt there yet. Pwning in this case would only be for unlocking and whatever's new on Firmware 2.0. 4 apps on Cydia isnt that exciting.

EDIT:Or did I get it wrong? There are reports on Engadget comments that you at least install themes and Customize. Anyone?

Anything good about firmware 2.0? I'm still feeling a bit reluctant to upgrade the firmware.

better wait for it to have a stable release. nothing is perfect when it first release. some said firmware 2.0 have some bug such as lag when typing a msg and so on. u can search for it even youtube can provide u sufficient information. not to forget about the latest itunes bug as dear string said that backup system is bug.

The backup system works fine, it is how it is implemented that is flawed. You only want to back up your iPhone at certain times, for example, when you've done installing lots of apps from AppStore. The backup in iTunes 7.7 however, backs it up ALL THE TIME, even when all you want to do is syncing it.

i download all the required file and prepare to jailbreak and unlock my iphone but suddenly i came across this comment from iclarified "Not button to switch off EDGE" cause installer not working yet.. sigh..patient again needed. Obviously i am not using data plan

Yes..it will unlock etc but f you’re looking for apps, they aren’t there yet. Installer isn’t even available. Cydia is but no apps yet. There is OpenSSH so far. Gotta wait until Installer and some apps are ported over to 2.0. Hopefully soon.

yeah, i read that part also... Pwnage works only with Cydia? and when they try to install Installer.app they get an error hehe... Wait for a better release

Ah ok... I haven't been updating myself for the past 2-3 days. Been busy (and angry) catching up with the Anwar's case

So Installer is not up and running yet on 2.0. They are just too many apps I'll be missing. Probably should wait for them to be ported 1st. And since that my debit card application is not processed yet, maybe i should hold on to it a lil. Thank you.

Does this mean you cannot turn off EDGE, or the button to do so isn't available? If this statement is talking about BossPref's EDGE flipswitch button, you can simply turn off EDGE by entering incorrent details in the "Network" section, that should stop it from using any EDGE network you've subscribed to.

If this means that I cannot turn off EDGE, then screw that, I'm holding it off. I dont want another episode of crazy phone bills to happen again.

For those who want to upgrade the 1st gen iphone to 2.0 pls make sure you've d/l the firmware directly fr the itunes otherwise the firmware wont be recognize by pwnage tool.

The iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw is recognize only by selecting 3G iphone in Pwnage Tool.

Mmmm .... gonna wait for Apple to release the fix first with FW2.0.1 before upgrading. If not have to restore again after the release. One more thing that made me wait is the availability of essential apps from Installer/Cydia. Apps from AppStore are tempting but living without some of the apps from Installer/Cydia (i.e iSMS, iLog, MXTube, Docs, Summerboard, Customize etc etc) would be a bit ... errr ... boring (maybe not the best choice of word). With the new firmware (and maybe file structure or framework), i need to re-learn the system inner working so can mod and mod and mod the phone summore.

Just some FYI for those who are nervous about upgrading. I just upgraded my 8GB iPhone 2.5G. For some reason I lost like 200MB of storage space. But perhaps that is due to the new firmware version itself. Now I have 7.08GB total space instead of 7.27 which I had before. Oh well at least I can use the official free apps like remote

That's not gonna be much to play with as in customizing your phone etc but you can try out the AppStore applications.

I think i should just post a new topic on the Option Pwnage for windows user for easy finding since many are windows base OS.

how do u choose the custom firmware form itunes(Mac)? i am at recovery mode, and press shift+ click restore but still cant choose the custom firmware, Pls help!

BTW ... thinking about it again, why do u need to jailbreak now since its already activated and unlocked. Not that there's lots of app in cydia to begin with.

Press alt(option) key for Mac and click restore in itunes.

i keep on getting an error with pawnage that i can't enter DFU mode, when I have already placed my phone in that mode. anyone know a fix?

The pwnage tool is for Sevn, I'm just here as a spectator in a surgical theater. Too bad the surgery cancelled, kena beli the Firmware 2.0, since his is an iPod Touch.

I'm keeping the 3G pristine and untouched. The EDGE however, is trembling under her skirt, to see if I'm gonna update her to her 2.0 outfit, or let her keep her 1.1.4 dress.

after u have done the pawnage, just use itunes to restore with custom firmware...
after restore via itunes, just leave ur itunes at is it, while waiting for pawnage to complete the process...
it will reboot again after done...

i have the same issue as urs...but, i m on 2.0 now!...good luck...

Better keep the lady in her 1.1.4 outfit for now if u have apps in there that are useful. Upgrading to 2.0 now would be a waste since u already have a FW2.0 (3G sumore) iPhone. Betul tak?

Yup, thats the right firmware.
Custom Firmware -" you make the activated, unlocked n jailbreak firmware before you restore to the iphone"

No need to run other software to activate, jailbreak n unlock your iphone after successfully restore the custom firmware.

Before unlocking to 2.0 using so called Pwnage Tool 2.0. i was 1.1.3 firmware. Now it LOCKED my iphone 16gb and i failed to upgrade to 2.0

ANYONE know what should i do now...

try to do it again, if u do it properly, i.e. through DFU, ur iphone should be unlock afaik

Use iTunes to upgrade to 2.0. It will be locked thereafter. That is what happened to me. Then disconnect the iPhone start pwnage 2.0 and run it to create a customised IPSW for your iPhone and then when it asks, plug in your iPhone and follow the instructions. This is how I did it and it fixed my iPhone. Remember to say no if it asks if you have pwned your iPhone before.

Ok so before i take the plunge, i want to clarify some stuff:

1. I can now UNLOCK, ACTIVATE and JAILBREAK 2.0
2. There is no Installer yet, but Cydia is available
3. No 3rd party application is compatible with 2.0 yet

Correct me if any of the things i mentioned above is not right.

- Regarding the iTunes store. Debit card should, by right, is accepted?
- Are there any differences between Malaysian iTunes AppStore and the US one?

- I don't think i'll be buying movies and music, so only the AppStore matters to me. But anyway, if I were to buy movies and music, can I switch to US Store (also changed my billing address to Cupertino as suggested by Stringfellow) but still use my Malaysian debit card?

ssh-ing a few song into taptap revenge it works as well



i have transfer more dictionary database in the weDict from appstore as well

edit: taptap revenge and dictionary seems to stop working after syncing and restarting the phone, but a reinstall will get them to work again, without the additional stuff that I put in earlier.....

i cant seem to download apps from the app store using my iphone.... but can download from my pc. dont know what is the problem.

I tried this.. and succussfully follow the On screen instruction. But in the end it still locked. ANY IDEA.. why

hmmm i'm not sure, if this is at all relevant, but when i purchase songs over the iphone's itunes store, i do realise that you will need a fairly stable and strong wifi signal to complete the both the transaction and download.

ya i did. Used the custom firmware and pawnage tool. Everything ok, but cant downlaod apps for iphone...

For those having difficulty accessing AppStore, this may be the reason. Everytime you get something from AppStore on your iPhone, it will ask you to log into your iTunes account. All apps, free or purchased, are tied to your iTunes account. Having jailbroken and activating it not through iTunes, means that you either have not created an iTunes account to tie up with the AppStore on your iPhone, and/or not used your already made iTunes account to unlock it. Remember, unlocking on Pwnage does not register as an official unlock, thus not tying it up with iTunes account, and therefore by extension of that ,the Appstore on your iPhone.

Once you've created an iTunes account and tie it to your iPhone, the Wifi iTunes store and Appstore on your iPhone will be able to access them.

1. using the current pwnage tool, you can unlock, activate and jailbreak 2.0 on iPhone 2G, activate and jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPod touch
2. yup, afaik the current installer is usable in 2.0 firmware, but all the app inside are not, installer 4.0 is said to be release soon for 2.0 firmware
2. there is a few 3rd party app in Cydia, i.e. NES, SSH...

iTunes stores is not the same accross different countries, US iTunes stores has the most applications in the AppStores, e.g. in my case, AppStore in NZ don't have Scrabbles and etc, and i believe Malaysia iTunes stores will be even lesser.

Malaysia's iTunes stores don't have movies, musics and etc.

I doubt that ur debit card is usable in iTunes Stores (US or local), unless the it is a VISA or Mastercard debit card.
afaik, iTunes US stores requires u to have a valid US credit card to purchase stuff from there....alternatively, u can try to ask ur frens in US to help u to purchase the iTunes card, or gift cert for u to purchase stuff from there

my iphone is now on 2.0 Finally after stuck with 2.0 beta 3 (dont want to downgrade coz will lose all my sms, photos and notes as backup for 2.0 beta 3 is not compatible with 1.1.4).

so far everything runs smoothly. my backup for 2.0 beta 3 can be easily restored on the official (pwned) 2.0 firmware. yay!

I'm a bit confused after searching and searching... yesterday was the release of the PWNAGE 2.0 tool... but that's for MAC... I read that there's no windows version yet... but I also read that it's for phones that have been pwnaged before... In my case, since i did it with iLIBERTY, can I still use the pwnage tool (when it comes available from windows) without any problems?

For Windows user, i think you can pwn your iPhone using our created ipsw.. but the filesize is about 240MB++
