I don't know hmm, 55% is practically silent for me. So i don't see any harm setting it at 55% though. (My casing is closed so probably that's why 55% is silent enough for me?)

The reference 4850 card with reference cooler when you set the fan to 50%-55%; the temp is also similar for idle. However, I notice mine the core will go down to 500mhz. I wonder the reference card is the same as well or not.

If it is the same, then probably the GS's cooler do not have any differences with the reference cooler.

My friend's HIS 4850 idles at 65+ though where else mine idles at 43+? Same? @@

n0v4m4r1n3, do you have .net framework 2.0 installed?

CM690 user here too, but my side panel comes with window and the fan already, maybe that's why mine idles lower than yours?

Anything above 55% I cannot tahan tongue.gif, so I set mine at 55% hehe.

I don't think 8.7 and above require the hotfix for 4850 and 4870. Only the 8.6 IIRC>

The screen goes black and the coming back after a few seconds happens to me as well. CCC8.8 user here. Didn't notice if it happened with another version since when I fitted my 4850 CCC8.8 already released.

should be ard rm9xx only!! thats from lehteck la not sure true or not.. both 512MB n 1GB ver ard rm9xx lol!!

Added on August 27, 2008, 10:07 pmbtw after some googling i think 4870x2 is much more better than 4870 CF just by 3-10FPS i think  (in most games, some games 4870 CF got higher FPS), cons of using 4870 CF, u need a good CF mobo, use 4 PCIE and comes with 2 version 512mb or 1gb mem speed!! 4870x2 use only 2 PCIE power and it comes with 2gb mem speed..

Currently there is no OCed/Custom 4870x2 but for 4870 there is GS n Turbo!
*
Have to play the waiting game lor, 4870x2 release not long only. After sometime ATi will allow the manufacturers to do non reference models.. then you can see the OC-ed version rclxms.gif

may i ask a noob question,

i have huntkey vpower 550 psu, can i install ati 4870 on it?
*
Better invest in a better PSU man, worth it! Else might kena problem like mine... PSU making noise according to the frame rate of the display ._. above 200fps then got noise from PSU liao. Huntkey vpower 550w.

Only way to solve it was to use vsync =/ Even when card at maximum load also no noise... as long the fps don't go above 200.

His fan fix probably means the fan speed mod. To set the fan to run at a specific speed instead of adjust automatically to temp.

I can tell you that my 4850GS when the fan in the dynamic mode, the temp is no no!  doh.gif I'm definately sure that even it is a customer cooler, the dynamic mode sucks. I think maybe it got to do with the BIOS not intellegent enough to rev up the fan to 55%-60% during full load or something.

I have to use gainward's tool to set the fan always running at 55%. Then the temp will be 55c idle. 70-75C full load. So, the fan will be always running at 55% even it is on idle @ 500mhz. I'm not sure about others that have use 3rd party cooler running on dynamic mode.
*
Hmm, your 4850 GS idles at 55c with 55% fan speed? It does seems a bit high though. Mine's 42c now (no aircond) running at 55% fan speed.

Might be your case's airflow or something.

ps. why don't just leave at 55% instead of going dynamic? 55% is pretty much considered silent... the stock intel CPU fan makes much more noise during gaming =/

4850 GS is the only thing taking up expansion slot in my case... So maybe that explains why I'm having better temps perhaps? Got a 12cm blowing directly on it as well at the sidepanel. CM690 case.

4850 GS idle (with aircond of course...)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Without aircond is about 42c roughly (just now before I turned the aircond on).

My side panel, I don't know how fast it is spinning. It is the stock fan that came with CM690... seems quite slow though.

Oh right, Asus newer boards the socket all at the inner part of the mobo.. wonder how to cable manage...

celciuz is having the same card with mine and i believe the probs don't lie in the core/mem clocks.. Right celciuz?
*
I doubt it is caused by the clock. I mean those cards are supposed to be factory oc-ed. But you can try lowering the core to 500 and see how perhaps? I don't think so yours is caused by overheating... those reference 4850 running at 80+ also working well what tongue.gif. 4850 GS don't go that high anyways.

Anyone using Gainward 4850GS and have the same problem as Desmond1310? PC crashes on certain games etc?

I was wonder whether is the heat since the card got no heatsink on RAM and VRM. I hope it is software related issue and not the card because I'm planning to get the GS soon.

Crysis sometimes crashing counted or not? =/ The program crashing only though not the whole system locking up. But I played other games like EVE-Online and Cabal for hours and no crashes...

I'm using Huntkey 550w with 4850 Golden Sample... So far not yet kaput... if kaput then can RMA and then buy another PSU liao <_<

This PSU very unique on my system... when the fps of the application goes above 200 or so (eg. atitool artifact scanning, or some game that didn't enable vsync) the PSU will sing song according to the fps lol. The higher the FPS the higher the pitch <_<

Yeah! At first I googled around and I thought the GC coils was making noise... But nope, then later I bring the PSU out... and the sound indeed was still coming from it... At first I thought making noise only when my GC is at 100% load, since those artifact scanning tools will push it to the max... then only I noticed it happens only when fps is very high. Didn't make noise when playing Crysis at high settings, or any games which puts my gc to 100% load but fps below 100.

WTS Opera Singing Huntkey 550w drool.gif lol.
