These are what they look like:

Added on April 14, 2009, 10:29 pmbtw, can the magstrike pause in the middle of firing? or must it be shot straight 10 rounds?
*
Yup, the Magstrike can be fired in "semi-auto" mode, just pull the trigger in quick snaps, it'll fire 1-2 shots in short bursts. smile.gif

The RF20 has the advantage of holding 20 darts at once and being able to fire them off very quickly, ideal for fast-paced close quarter Nerf games (ie. in office or home), but it's disadvantage is it doesn't have a swappable clip system so once you're out of ammo during a game you'll have to pull out another blaster.

The Magstrike also uses the same rapid firing mechanism, although it's clip can only hold 10 darts at any one time, the clip is swappable so you have the option of carrying a few additional clips to reload quickly (assuming you can get the original Magstrike boxsets that come with 2 x clips, or manage to buy extra clips from online sellers or eBay).

My impromptu office games usually see Magstrikes used as primary blasters to hunt opponents along corridors, while using RF20s as "room clearing" blasters. laugh.gif

I guess after trying the Ironman Magstrike last weekend in a Nerf War with some friends, i felt that some bugs still exist so i'm sticking to my Rapid Fire in the meantime =D I was a bit annoyed that the clip kept dropping back down into the gun, so everytime i stopped firing, i had to 'restart' shooting blanks first before the actual rounds started coming out - thus i lost the element of surprise because it made quite a bit of noise =P

I heard the N-strike Magstrike has fixed all these problems so im hoping that USJ or TRU Subang Parade has those =D

Interested in going down to check them out?
*
Yup, i know what you mean, a few of my magstrike clips also slide back down after firing, but i also have a few which can stay in position properly... so i guess its probably a cause of manufacturing variations between the different production batches (i've measured all my magstrike clips to compare and their widths could differ by as much as 2-3 mm).

Luckly its easy to solve, simply stick a few layers of duct tape/rubber tape along the side of your Magstrike clip, this will provide enough friction to keep the clip in position when firing in bursts, i've done it and it works. Here is a photo of how its done by Forsaken_angel24 at Nerfhaven:

Yeah, I'd be keen to get the new Yellow N-Strike Magstrikes and Rapid Fire 20s, if its in stock i'd probably make a trip up to get them. smile.gif

Heys, let me know when the stocks come in? I called TRU Jusco about 2-3 weeks back and the manager told me that Hasbro isn't bringing in anymore Rapid Fire 20s... =\

U confirm that they told u that they're bringing the Rapid Fires in? I don't mind the N-strike Mags too =D

Let me know when u're going yea? i might just clear the Rapid Fire stocks there =P
Okay, some good news... i just called TRU M'sia main office and they helped me check their system for the Yellow N-strike RF 20s shown on the TRU M'sia website.

They said there is currently stock of this model at 2 of their TRU outlets: Queensbay Mall @ Penang & Mesra Mall @ Trengganu.

More units are apparently on order, but it'll be up to Hasbro M'sia to determine when they'll bring them in. smile.gif

Interesting... is the Big Bad Bow you spotted the purple or red version?

Btw, cool paintwork on your Recon! The dark brown colour scheme looks very unique. smile.gif

Will micro darts fit into the recon as well?

EDIT: Anyone have an issue where their vulcan has trouble pulling in the first shot on a belt? I'm inclined to think it's a belt problem since it kinda works with the belt flipped over.
*
Micro darts (the ones with suction tips) are difficult to fire from magazine fed barrel blasters, even after modding. This is because the concave tips usually gets stuck at the blocker plate mechanism, they are just not designed to be used in blasters with such mechanisms. Guess you just have to stick with Taggers, Sonics and Streamlines instead.

For your vulcan, make sure the ammo belt is supported, put it in the ammo box or supported on the floor/table, try not to shoot with the entire belt dangling (ie. rambo style), the weight of the un-supported belt puts undue stress on the belt feed gear mechanism. smile.gif

Anyway, I want to know; Where can I get spare Recon clips? I'm looking to make myself a double-magazine, though I haven't seen anyone on around on the internet who's already tried this mod. If I can get my hands on some extra clips and the mod works, I'll post it up here so you guys can try it out. Oh, I might also try using some cold welding material or something to coat over the shoulder stock, because it's just pretty darn weak out of the box.

To make high capacity magazines for your Longshot or Recon, check out this 12-dart magazine mod by "CaptainSlug" over at the NerfHaven forums:

Sgnerf - Thanks for the mod guide! Looking at the internals of the Longshot, it may be safe to say that a similar mod can be done to it? I love taggers, they fly a decent distance and are fairly accurate, but they get very icky after a while (dust). The new Sonics are almost as good, they don't blow up in my brother's gas home made like the old one. As fun as Streamlines are, you can't hit the blind side of a barn with it even with laser sights. tongue.gif
*
Yup, the Longshot has the same internal mechanism as the Recon, the same Tagger compatibility mod is applicable.

Regarding accuracy with Nerf foam darts, its a tricky issue. It also depends on the Nerf blaster used and whether its stock or modded.

In my experience, I do find that Streamline foam darts can be quite accurate with good distance when in new condition and straight, but once they are even just slight bent or damaged, they have a tendency to spiral wildly left and right (sometimes even almost curve around a corner).

Tagger or Sonics seem to be less affected by being bent or damaged, they do spiral left and right sometimes (due to the shot by shot variations), but in much smaller deviations.

Anyways, I guess i'm someone who isn't really that concerned about distance or accuracy, my personal preference is for high rate-of-fire.... just close in on an opponent (its easy to dodge single shots), then unleash a barrage of 10-20 darts, no need to aim, a few will definitely hit! laugh.gif

Btw, I mainly use Tagger darts simply because its velcro tips can stick to vests and clothes to register hits during dart tag games. smile.gif

Looking for some protection from foam darts?

Make your own Foam Ballistic Shield!

Foam ballistic shields introduce more interesting tactics in nerf skirmish games, especially for indoor close-quarter-battle (CQB) games!

This idea sprang up from a recent office nerf game, soon everyone was running around with these shields...

Its very simple to make, you can find the steps at my modworks blog:

that is really nice sgnerf, but the game is pretty weird right, i was hopping for something more tactical, but stock gun in tournament that sucks...lol
smile.gif

Well... this is an official Nerf tournament, so just like in any competition, team participants have to use the same stock equipment so that all players play on a fair playing field. Teams would be judged on their teamwork and skill (instead of who has better equipment or mods).

Btw, the tournament's capture-the-flag style gameplay also has an additional target objective system. Players have to hit the mid-field target before they can enter into the opponent's area and then hit another zone target before being allowed to capture the flag. Teams will also have to defend these targets, so it adds another dimension to team strategy, cannot just anyhow "chiong" ahead.

The teams that scored the highest were the ones who worked together as a team with tight co-ordination... definitely not for the solo-warrior types (as usually seen in most Nerf wars). laugh.gif

I just added more game footage videos of the 2nd day's open category teams to the event coverage. Many of the open category teams comprise entirely of adults, or even a mix of adults and kids, so its interesting to see their different gameplay styles. smile.gif

maybe you can try paintball tactic, paintball always eliminate all the opponent before they do the flag things, i was just wonder why u all not do that. but anyway i have see the video already really nice when you have a sponser right cry.gif but i see you all "chiong" only leh
*
Yup, thats one of the good strategies to use too. Tagged players have to return to the team's penalty box, wait for 10 seconds and then can resume in the game, the penalty time is quite short so gameplay has to be very fast, therefore tagging all opponents at the same time before capturing the flag requires team co-ordination and speed.

Some of the teams actually used that strategy, i couldn't take complete vids of every team playing (there were lots of teams and it would need hours of footage) so i mostly focused on the quick "chionging" action scenes... but you'll notice in some of the excerpt game footage, sometimes players could clear the objective targets and capture the flag without encountering much defence 'cos most or all of the defenders got tagged out during that time.

Anyways, hopefully there will be more such official Nerf tournament events held in more countries soon! smile.gif

Wow, now that is really new and unexpected, no one else on the NIC has seen that, even the Nerf Haven forum guys don't know about it yet!

Does it have any usable targeting reticule? Or is it just a prop accessory like the tactical scope? Btw, what's the pricing too? Thx!

I don't know about it yet but let me try out first. But didn't you read the price tag very carefully (marked in bold)? RM29.90 Of course. It's the another N-strike Mission Kit to me then it comes with 10 micro darts.

*
You're right... haha, didn't spot the price in your post (was reading it and replying from my phone... screen too small blush.gif ). Cool!

I'll be updating the NerfSG forum guys about your discovery of the Nerf Reflex Sight, the SG nerfers are really into scopes and sights so this item will surely be of great interest to them. Thx dude! biggrin.gif

Btw, do you have an validated member account on Nerf Haven? 'cos your discovery would definitely be hot news in their Product Awareness thread. If not, i can help you post up too, can link to your post.
