There are others to look out for. Gonzo for example, he came back strong out of no where in RG. Could be another strong showing for him again in 2 weeks time.

Then theres Monfils as well, looks like he has looked past all his injuries, says "F.. it, I'm playing till I die", then played like the electrifying diver he has always been known for.

Tsonga is also improving quite a bit. Still has an inmatured mindset though, always think that if he wins a match, he's the best.... shakehead.gif

Oh and I'd say also look out for Roddick. I saw a glimpse of the Roddick from 2003 in RG....

QUOTE(Bepeon @ Jun 8 2009, 01:47 PM)
I think Djokovic has been under-par in Grand Slam this year.. really disappointing results from him since the start of the year.. He did give Nadal a tough match in Madrid, so close to beating him, but i think he overplayed, peak at the wrong time, while Federer slowly got into the form, then played best tennis in the Roland Garros final. Smart!

Yes, tennis is really competitive now, and not an one match show by Nadal... and i think there are many players who can beat Nadal on grass, those who hit hard and flat, like Soderling... And we have Del Potro, who is improving so fast, almost beat Federer in the semifinal!

And of course Murray, who will be in the centre of attention in Wimbledon, because he's a britian, so much pressure on him, not sure whether he can handle them well.

And Nadal, who seems to be the best player before Roland Garros, suddenly derailed and now has abit of injury issue. Federer will have to take advantage of this and break Sampras' record in Wimbledon!

it can all be summed up in 1 word --> experience biggrin.gif

in the past where Fed is dominating the game, he utilizes his skills, now when there's younger players who can out-skilled him, he switched to experience play he gained throughout his career, plus his tough mentality, no one really could rule him out....he might go on to win another 5-6 grand slams before he retire...

remember that Sampras won his 14th when he was 31, Fed won his 14th when he is only 27

Agree... experience and mentality are very important especially playing in semi and final.
Federer has both but may lose out on stamina to those younger players.
However, he still got his superb ace serve and crazy backhand... his humble attitude too earn him a lot of respects.

Gongrats to R.Federer on winning his 14 slam titles and hope more to come rclxms.gif

Jimmy Connors: "In an era of specialists - you're either a clay court specialist, a grass court specialist or a hard court specialist... or you're Roger Federer"

And this is what the great Pete Sampras has to say:

QUOTE
What he’s done over the past five years has never, ever been done—and probably will never, ever happen again, regardless if he won there or not, he goes down as the greatest ever. This just confirms it.”

And Pete Sampras also said this, "... But you have to be fair to Nadal, too. Rafa's just in the beginning stages of his career, but he has a good record against Roger. So what happens in the next couple of years could be real interesting."

When Roger was 23 years old, he won 6 Grand Slams... so does Rafa whom at 22 won 6 Grand Slams.

So we could be looking at 2 greatest players here...

haha , same as u , had to study right after seeing him winning the French Open ..
Would have been better if he beat Nadal , like how Nadal beat him at Wimbledon last year.

I do suspect Nadal's injury is not that serious , then suddenly he pulls out something stunning in Wimbledon . lol

Yeah , Nadal's future is so bright , just hope thats there not much injury or such , as ppl said that his style of playing is really tearing his body down.

Awaiting Wimbledon !!! is it the 15th ? lol

HC, i read your post about Astro Supersport's coverage on French Open, don't be so happy yet, we would all back to normal when the Masters Series starts again.. all the frustration caused by the crappy TV Coverage (no semis + no final!), not to forget they didn't even show the Nadal vs Federer final in Madrid. smile.gif smile.gif

But well, the coming Wimbledon will be covered by Starsports.. Then US Open will be covered by Supersport.

Lets hope the momentum Federer is having now will bring him far into Wimbledon! rclxms.gif

Hi Bepeon, of course I'm not happy yet but I'm trying to build rapport with them...

Astro took it quite seriously when I sent a complaint letter to The Star recently...

And yesterday they thought I was the one who complained about the glitch during prize-giving ceremony... I don't want to be the 'bad guy' or a typical blogger who only knows how to complain... so I'll give them credit when I think it's necessary.

Anyway there's no way for us to get LIVE coverage for Masters Series semis and finals this year but hopefully in the future.

I think you did the right thing to write to The Star. In fact i have been writing alot of complaints to directly to the, haha i was shocked that how similar our complaint letters seems like.. Haha. Same content i think.

Astro deserves a spank from us, too much discrimination to non-football sports fans in M'sia. smile.gif

And where is the HD technology? Free to air channels in other countries already have HD channels while M'sia is still light year behind. blink.gif

Haha... please continue writing when it's necessary... or give them a call when you're unhappy with the coverage.

Not sure about that HD technology... my expectation not that high

federer federer, he has won it yea we know. yet this puts a certain question out,

first fed was never in his form or zone, if he was in his best these players would be nothing. fed was only his best during the final, but really the whole tournament was not something right in federers form. (well to be honest in everyones form)

now its intersting how he goes from here, will he return to the insane tennis master we know for hte last few years or be slopping aroung like a dying fish like he has been doing. i personally feel that the french open wouuld help him tremendously, one could never argue against playing with full confidance. i think the win would just give federer this, given this i think fed ex will start another insane tennis run again. he woulud be in better form come 2 weeks but really if he takes another its really hard to tell when he would stop agian lol.

Nadal has a good record against Federer for a reason most people, I think, don't notice. Since Federer was No.1 and Nadal No.2, Nadal had not been good enough in hard court events, until the last year. Since they're always the top 2 seeds, they can only meet in the final of a tournament. In in those years past, Nadal had not been good enough to meet Federer in hard court finals. However, Federer had been the second best clay court player since Nadal became the king, so have had many occasions to meet him in clay court finals, and obviously, he lost most of them to Nadal.

So, this is really why Federer has a bad record against Nadal. It's because most of their meetings were on clay, where Federer just could not beat him except on a couple of occasions. And Nadal, until now, was not even able to meet Federer in the finals of other surface tournaments, save for Wimbledon.

Well, we'll see how long Nadal can play. Not as long as Federer, for sure. His game is too harsh on his body. He is this young, and already having problems. But no denying he is also one of the real greats of the game.
