its not about whether getting Merc as a 1st car or not... the issue here is the best value for money a car can be purchase for that amount of cash.

Between a new Viva and an old Merc which are the same priced, I put my life and money on the Merc, being a bigger car and safer car. And no question that the W124 is one of the best engineered car in the world.

So...lets say I have a RM2k salary....would it be sufficient to cover the cost of maintaining this car? Can get loan for this car? Is it expected to have major wear and tear that require big bucks to repair?

eh guys, sidetrack topic abit arr... regarding w124 arr... if you guys realize, the driver's side mirror is rectangle, while the passenger's side is SQUARE.

this has been puzzling me from the day i saw this car when i was seven. no one is able to answer me. can't even find the answer on internet.

ANYONE KNOWS THE ANSWER?

driver side rectangle means long mirror surface. when a driver position being closer to a mirror , then the mirror need to be longer to deflect wider view(less blind spot)

while passenger side mirror being placed further from the driver position so only need less mirror surface(square) to reflect the image back to the driver .

this only play with view angle.hope u understand wat i trying to tel..lol tongue.gif

you can risk it...even though Mercedes parts last long, once you get the car, you may have to replace A LOT of parts before you use it. Normal la, for all 2nd hand cars. FYI, gearbox overhaul will cost abt 10k whistling.gif

It depends on the condition of the car.
Haven't you come up with a decision after 7 pages?

Sensui my friend,

Pause all your postings, pause all your new threads for the moment

You are fast gaining negative reputation of the annoying member which frequently asks "Is this car worth as a fresh grad?" rclxub.gif

This question of "ABC car Worth it as a first car for fresh grad?" has been plaguing the entire The Fast and The Furious.

Can you just pause for a moment, and please, tell me (or us),

What is your earning salary?

Or are you not working yet?

If you choose to ignore, then everyone else will ignore SENSUI the infamous member.

well bro, RM 10K for gearbox overhaul, that is quite misleading, either the person that telling you got his cut throat by the mechanic (higher chances is the mech from CnC), or his just made that assumption just because it's MERCEDES

Last year, I did gearbox overhaul for my 14 years old W124 E280, it cause me around RM4,+++.00 @ that time that car mileage was around 33X,000 KM. Even for that price, it was considered on high side by my friend, but the shop was the nearest to my house, and specialize on servicing MB.

Then my advice, honestly, is go for something lighter la. Kancil, old Nissan Sunny, etc, for a start.

I admit that I am only driving a Nissan Sunny for years for work and personal usage.Haven't changed cause want to prioritize for something more important.
I also wish I own a Merc or a Volvo,it's a great car, but I want to allocate my funds for other future planning, such as marriage, home, etc.

But if you still insist on conti cars.

Look for a good,2nd hand unit, Citroen ZX for a start. They cost around Rm 5-6K these days.Spare part also cheap and comparable to Japanese. FC is good too for a 1.9L or 2.0L.
Proton Tiara is actually a good car, provided you know where to source the Citroen spare parts for the AX model.

Peugeot is cheap too, shares the same parts with Citroen, but I've heard Peugeot's reliability is always very questionable

It seems you want to be a nosy, showy-flashy-foo foo person, riding a Merc.

If you dont have a budget of RM 20-30K for a Merc W124,and another RM 5K for maintenance, then you can just only keep dreaming about it (and keeping it to yourself).
Better re-think your options than to excessively ask around.

Otherwise, buy a car which is suitable for your budget and your needs.

Not to show off "I have a Merc, you are driving a Proton".

Kapish?

Seriously, have you even given Citroen a second-thought?
Dont judge the book just by it's cover.

Frankly to say Sensui, if your bank account doesn't have at least RM20k then don't bother to land yourself with a used W124 Mercedes. I dare to say that getting a continental rides are easy but when it comes to maintenance wise, most owners will 'ah chi ah cho" there & there, saying why so expensive compared to Japanese rides la, this la that la.

So get a good earning job after graduated, save the best u could & then only think of getting a continental ok. Exception will be granted if your MBF (Mother Father Finance) is fully loaded & sponsoring u for the car where $$$ is not an obstacle to them. brows.gif wink.gif
