yes the masterpiece versions are the better ones since it was like the last batches.. my dad was one of the first buyers of this car back in 1986 (i think) before i was born haha.. and he still keeps and maintains the car TILL NOW.. last year he took it for respray and replacing the chromes and all and the car looked just like new.. although by dad now hardly use it..

driving a w124 at this age makes you look old don't you think so? I'd rather get an alfa...though those cost alot more to maintain...

You may try transplanting the 260E engine. Straight six 12V engine pretty straightforward.

If you like good power and torque, try the 300E engine, straight six 24V engine.

hye..
i'm a newbie here..
my family had w124 and so far it has served us very very well..
it's so comfortable and long lasting...
i don't think u will find trouble owning this car if u do regular servicing..
if u want to compare w124 with the saga i dun think its worth it..
maybe mercedes parts are far expensive than the saga or any other japanese car..but trust me..the parts will definitely long-lasting.
other than w124 i suggest u to look out for w201 which is the 190e which cost probably rm20k -rm30k

I've been always a fan of W124 Mercedes Benz since I was just a kid. As mentioned by some here, W124 is an over-engineered for its kind during its launch back in 1986. My dad bought one of the early batch W124 230E with tank-quality manual transmission & it's still running perfectly smooth after 22 years.

It's one of my favorite ride even I do looked slightly older when driving it. Here are some tuned up W124 photos from some forums that I referred as amazing rides & planning to do something similar:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3471343

P/S: Keep the W124 running with its original German engines instead of those 1JZ, 2JZ or RB25DETT as it just spoils the original German marque.
