Good Morning All,

Say you only have 1 credit card and wanted to go on a holiday
the air ticket for 3 cost roughly RM6k, but your credit limit is only RM4k
surely that transaction cannot proceed, right?

how can you make that transaction without going to the bank and requesting them to permanently increase your credit limit?
i got to know that increasing one's credit limit will take 3-4 business days and you'll need to submit your payslip in order to get approval

HSBC doesn't allow temporary credit limit increase.

From my experience with HSBC, they will ask you either permanently increase the credit limit or "top up" cash to your card (meaning deposit t the difference of cash) in order to ensure that your above transaction won't be rejected.

interesting... i only have HSBC credit card accounts, which account do i do the top up? go to the branch or just deposit cash in the machine?

but like this also crap... i have also my monthly swipes at the petrol kiosk, means i have to top up quite a lot in addition to my monthly usage?

if that's the case... i'll give HSBC a call then, see how i can get this around smile.gif

Yeap. Just insert your credit card into the cash deposit machine and deposit the cash difference.

Normally the bank would give an extension of credit limit like at 4k to 6k for the month.
You would have to call the credit card customer service to tell them in advance you would like to do the transaction and also request for credit limit extension.

The safest way to ensure you could use the credit card to swipe for the 6000MYR transaction is definitely to deposit extra cash for the bank smile.gif put in RM10k in advance, you would able to swipe till RM13999 as long as you tell them in advance thumbup.gif

actually it's simple.

Ur limit is 4k rite? but u want to use 6K? then u swipe twice 3k +3k = 6k

but of cos u have to bank in the remaining 2k in ur a/c first. Meaning u have extra 2k in your 4k cc limit rite?
meaning all in all u have 6k so just swipe 3k per tranx cos 4k limit meaning u can go max 4k per tranx but if
u have credit balance in your card then u swipe it also can get through as long it's not 5k per tranx.

That's what i did with all my cc

Well, I did call to HSBC CS to temporary increase my credit limit because I would like to purchase something which is more than the offered credit limit. The HSBC telebanker proposed the above ways that I mentioned earlier. My repayment record at that time was very clean and organized too.

i don't blame the CS, i m just pissed off with the inconvenience caused by the damn rules , if other bank can do it, they can consider it. if they can provide 48hrs loan approval, they can consider giving some privilledge for the loyal high credit limit customer, the last time they increase my limit is when i used up 80% of my credit, then now i just need the favor , the rule doesn't allow it, nvm, there is nothing wrong, just not good enuf.

I understand on what you're trying to say. There's always room for improvement and perhaps you could feedback to them.

So far, I think only Citibank allows or offers temporary credit liimit increase and it can even done over the phone too! As what being advertised in their commercials.

Act, how many of U ever gotten a temporary increase in credit limit when U requested for it? I know for sure I didn't get mine when I asked for it so I've given up hope on ever getting it.

A couple of close friends had the same issues too but from what I read on the forum, a lot of people seem to have been granted temporary increase in CL.

Also, if ur using Citibank, assuming the transaction (above CL) goes through, U are charged a certain fee.

thanks everyone for their very helpful replies thumbup.gif

hmm... seems i don't have much choice, huh? tongue.gif
sorry, didn't manage to call the CS today, maybe tomorrow...
cos i just want to increase my credit limit for that single transaction... the last time i called the CS, she only said i can increase it permanently... maybe she didn't get my point...

> famous
why 3k+3k and not 4k+2k since my credit limit is 4k? smile.gif
the merchant machine is smart enough to accumulate both transactions together and consider it as a single transaction?

> tinkerbel
personal experience with CitiBank? fee charged based on a certain % of the amount exceeding the credit limit? or a fixed rate?

> David83
so its something like half credit card, half debit card right?

My father called MBB CS to increase the CL. He had never submitted a payslip before yet they allow. smile.gif
