HSBC doesn't allow temporary credit limit increase.
From my experience with HSBC, they will ask you either permanently increase the credit limit or "top up" cash to your card (meaning deposit t the difference of cash) in order to ensure that your above transaction won't be rejected.

QUOTE(kenji1903 @ Jul 5 2008, 12:30 PM) Added on July 5, 2008, 12:34 pminteresting... i only have HSBC credit card accounts, which account do i do the top up? go to the branch or just deposit cash in the machine?but like this also crap... i have also my monthly swipes at the petrol kiosk, means i have to top up quite a lot in addition to my monthly usage? if that's the case... i'll give HSBC a call then, see how i can get this around Yeap. Just insert your credit card into the cash deposit machine and deposit the cash difference.

Well, I did call to HSBC CS to temporary increase my credit limit because I would like to purchase something which is more than the offered credit limit. The HSBC telebanker proposed the above ways that I mentioned earlier. My repayment record at that time was very clean and organized too.

I understand on what you're trying to say. There's always room for improvement and perhaps you could feedback to them.
So far, I think only Citibank allows or offers temporary credit liimit increase and it can even done over the phone too! As what being advertised in their commercials.

QUOTE(kenji1903 @ Jul 6 2008, 12:11 AM) thanks everyone for their very helpful replies > David83 so its something like half credit card, half debit card right? I won't call it that way. I rather call it as paying extra.

QUOTE(jiaxun @ Jul 6 2008, 12:25 AM) My father called MBB CS to increase the CL. He had never submitted a payslip before yet they allow. My experience with MBB also not that good. My first credit limit application by submitting a form is being rejected. They said that my cards haven't reach one year. Now, I'm applying second time since my card has reached its first annivesary. Let's see how it goes. Hope they don't piss me again this round.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 7 2008, 10:30 AM) @David83, Instead of using ur CC to obtain a 2nd card, Y not just put in an application together with the documentations? That way, they'll be able to give U a card? I don't understand your statement.

QUOTE(vin_ann @ Jul 7 2008, 10:10 PM) what she wanted to say is use ur payslip to apply for increment of CL instead of card. with this way, ur chances will be brighter to get increased CL. Both applications I got submit my payslip as well. No use for the first application as the reject reason is my card age < 1 year.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 8 2008, 01:54 PM) @David83, If U give the bank ur pay slip and put in all the documentations needed, it shouldn't matter whether or not U have an existing card be it 1 year or less isn't it? I have that thought in the first time but I guess that I'm wrong.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 8 2008, 10:57 PM) @David83, Are U owing the existing CC company $? It could be a reason. Owing? I have a saving account and a hire purchase with MBB on top of CC. My CC repayment for MBB, CIMB DA and previously HSBC are clean. I don't like to owe these short term loans.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 9 2008, 10:31 AM) @David83, In that case, the onli other reason I see for the Bank to reject u is that ur 'total credit' is oredi v high? *shrugs* Sweat ... RM 5k is considered high! DA offers me double of that with a new application.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 9 2008, 02:04 PM) @David83, Total credit refers to total monies owe to bank at time when U put ur application in. If U oredi haf a house loan + car loan + personal loan + CC of RMx CL; the banks will take into account ur monthly salary and see if u are a risk to them or not before they issue U with a CC or give U an increase in CL. I don't know if that is how they really gauge things but that's what I was told once upon a time by Citibank; though I no longer am too confident about the stuff Citibank tells me cause I get different information from different people *sigh* Obviously my salary is different compared to last year and that's why I apply for an credit increase.

I just found that my MBB credit limit has been approved and increased today after I viewed my details in M2U.
Damn stingy, they upgraded from RM 5k to RM 7k as the new combined limit for my two cards.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 9 2008, 08:47 PM) @David83, Getting an increase is better than no increase right @cute_boboi, Get a 2nd emergency card Not sure if that'll be enough since I might use it at overseas next month. Nevermind, got company card to cover. QUOTE(cute_boboi @ Jul 9 2008, 08:49 PM) Already got secondary card from another bank. But consolidating all my TP in MBB Same as what I did now.
