Act, how many of U ever gotten a temporary increase in credit limit when U requested for it? I know for sure I didn't get mine when I asked for it so I've given up hope on ever getting it.

A couple of close friends had the same issues too but from what I read on the forum, a lot of people seem to have been granted temporary increase in CL.

Also, if ur using Citibank, assuming the transaction (above CL) goes through, U are charged a certain fee.

@kenji1903,
If the bank has given U its approval for the increase in CL U wouldn't need to split payment 3k+3k or 4k+2k; can just swipe 6k straight away. Also, I think 4k+2k was suggested because that might give a higher percentage of success as compared to 3k+3k *shrugs*

It's a fixed rate of RMx [it's not a big amount; either RM5 or 10] for each transaction made exceeding CL - it's not based on personal experience but it is stated on the monthly credit card bills that come [check the bill - it's right at the top before the entire statement] but u prob can call up and get them to waive it *shrugs*

@David83,
Instead of using ur CC to obtain a 2nd card, Y not just put in an application together with the documentations? That way, they'll be able to give U a card?

@chippy09,
I believe the foreign banks do have to follow rules too tongue.gif I don't think they're any more flexible than the local banks; except their service is probably a level above smile.gif

@David83,
If U give the bank ur pay slip and put in all the documentations needed, it shouldn't matter whether or not U have an existing card be it 1 year or less isn't it?

@David83,
Are U owing the existing CC company $? It could be a reason.

@David83,
In that case, the onli other reason I see for the Bank to reject u is that ur 'total credit' is oredi v high? *shrugs*

@David83,
Total credit refers to total monies owe to bank at time when U put ur application in. If U oredi haf a house loan + car loan + personal loan + CC of RMx CL; the banks will take into account ur monthly salary and see if u are a risk to them or not before they issue U with a CC or give U an increase in CL.

I don't know if that is how they really gauge things but that's what I was told once upon a time by Citibank; though I no longer am too confident about the stuff Citibank tells me cause I get different information from different people *sigh*

@cute_boboi,
Yes, high CL is bears great advantages esp for those who travel a lot but otherwise, most of the time, U wouldn't need too high a CL.

@David83,
I know how irritating it can be cause like I said, I too never been given an increase in CL despite being a loyal customer with them throughout all these years. I'm actually not surprised they declined your application for an increase in CL.

My reported salary was RM1.8 p/month when I first applied for the card. I believe the last time I asked for a CL (and was rejected) my reported salary was RM4k. Since then I never bothered getting an increase in CL.

Anyhow perhaps they oredi took into account ur total outstanding monies owed to the bank with ur new salary and felt u were still a risk? *shrugs*

@cute_boboi,
I don't know if it helps but I have heard of some people calling up their CC companies requesting for temporary increase in CL just before they go on their travels. I've never tried requesting as the last time I requested for one I got rejected.

Apparently from what I hear, it's pretty easy to get *shrugs*

@cute_boboi,
Though my request for temporary increase in CL was made through the telephone [it was an emergency], my request for permanent increase in CL was put in through letter with relevant documentations enclosed.

Ah well.... I'm no longer interested in wanting an increase in CL so not too bothered about it.

@temptation1314,
It's never happened to me despite the good credit record I've kept in the last 9 years.

@temptation1314,
I was to undergo a surgery and had wanted to use my Citibank CC to pay the bill but unfortunately as I oredi had used some $ for the month, I didn't have sufficient CL. I did call up for a temporary increase [i thought going for surgery would be considered an emergency] but nevertheless was declined.

@widget,
As the surgery was unplanned, I didn't keep sufficient 'credit' in my CC to make sure I had sufficient $ to make payment unless Citibank gave me a temporary increase in CL. Unfortunately, due to this personal experience of mine, I never believed in requesting for increase in CL.

In the past, I've also asked for a permanent increase in CL but was rejected, twice! I no longer bother about the increase in CL cause I'd given up tongue.gif

@widget,
I was oredi holding both Visa & MasterCard with Citibank hence there were no other options; unless I re-applied for a different category card or got another card from another bank.

Ah well.... it doesn't matter now cause I don't need the increase in CL now.
