aiman...there's some code you can use on those universal remote controllers to break the code for the DVD playback (only) for that BD35......then again, if you wont be using it for DVD...i guess no point.
*
Really ar? Only with the universal remotes, such as the Harmony's?

Even I don't use for DVD, still nice to have it region free. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(mpyw @ Dec 12 2008, 04:13 PM)

That offer is BD55 which is $100 more expensive, not BD35. Was considering that, but then I don't need the analogue outs on BD55. And even with the $100 discount it's still out of my budget because of the BD movies which I already have. BD35 is just perfect for me.

QUOTE(rthj @ Dec 12 2008, 04:43 PM)
aiman, that BD35 doesnt have voltage selector, right?

i am pretty much set on that model as well.....but now have to think if i should get it from UK or US...there is quite a bit of price difference.

just emailed those fella in Stockholm about those mod kits. need to check how much is shipping and/or if they'll mod my unit if i bring them the unit.
*
No, it doesn't. I bought a 100W stepdown transformer to get 120V. Only paid RM68 for it. And you also might have to buy an SD card for BD-Live, a cheap 1GB will do.

I checked their website, the mod kit alone is €69 with another €19 for shipping worldwide. But with this mod kit, you have to open the player, and solder the chips yourself. For BD35, there's up to 10 soldering to be done. So you'll need some soldering skill too. sweat.gif

The modded player they're selling for €499 which is really expensive for me. So, the best way is to buy from US and install the mod kit ourselves. If you really want to mod lah.

QUOTE(AskDS @ Dec 12 2008, 05:24 PM)
Hi aiman,

Can you share with me the dimension of this player? Will be going to the States next month and wonder if it is convenient to carry this unit back by hand?

Thanks

Nevermind. Over 16-inch width means it will not fit into my carry-on bag easily.
*
The box dimension is 21x15x8 inches. You can just check-in the player's box itself, it's really light, around 4 kg (non-volumetric weight). The customs could just let you walk. Even if taxed, only 10% for electronic items which is less than RM100. That's still very cheap considering you don't have to pay for shipping. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(rx330 @ Dec 12 2008, 11:34 PM)
tun aiman, wats ur account number?
i bank in to u rm 300, the additional rm 100 for poslaju fee, ok?
*
I can give you my account number, but I'm in the process of changing my mobile number and move to a new house. This is the best time to FFK. whistling.gif

aiman, yes, universal remote like Harmony and URC....google for it...its on some forum..avforums if not mistaken.

the mod kit retailer in Stockholm will do the mod job as well...for SEK1195...that is about RM450....but first I need to get the UK BD35 first, for the right voltage. then i might consider sending/bringing it to STO to be modded.

from the picture you posted, the PS3 is on top of the DVD player and the BD player? wouldnt that be a bit of load on the bd player?
*
I see.. Actually the PS3 is at the back standing directly on the table. The only thing on the BDP is the DVDP, which very light. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(iman_210 @ Dec 14 2008, 07:30 PM)
wow aiman...

How you come to that conclusion? The PS3 and the DVDP are the only two Sony in my home. Everything else in my entire home is from other brands. nod.gif

I truly envy taukeh aiman..nice chap..geram plak tgk BD35 tu... (*peeking inside wallet*....mmm)
*
Go for it bro. brows.gif

However, the PS3 is still one of the best. It's just that I've always want a standalone BDP since day one. But none of them at that time can rival the PS3 in almost everything. But now, with BD35, I can finally get my standalone player that can rival the PS3, and even wins over in some ways. thumbup.gif

RX, buy a lot of BDs now and use free delivery to your wife. British pound is low now, get the most you can. But yeah, purchases within EU the VAT will be applied though.

Better don't change the GBP to RM yet, wait until it goes back up. nod.gif

Spent the weekend comparing the BD35 with the PS3. Everything the same, all settings, cables, were the same.

Seriously, the BD35 gives better PQ than the PS3. I can immediately see the difference in PQ. To me the BD35 gives better colors and sharper picture, and the grain is somewhat more noticeable.

For AQ, no difference for PCM tracks or if decoding the DTS-HD MA/Dolby TrueHD internally. But when bitstream the DTS-HD MA/Dolby TrueHD to my Onkyo 875, there is some improvement, the sound stage is like more opened up and has real weight. It's minimal, but still noticeable.

The loading time/responsiveness is still slower than the PS3, but still acceptable (check the benchmark table posted earlier). Plus, the BD35 is really quiet. For PS3 owners, this will be very noticeable.

shipping to her add is free, but the bloody VAT, i bought BoB recently, ship back to msia cheaper than ship to her place

hopefully she bring back a messenger bag for my notebook will do tongue.gif
*
Yup, noticed that VAT reduction. The VAT for boxsets will cost more than the cost to ship back to Malaysia. If buying from here the price will be the same no matter how much the VAT, because the VAT is imposed on the original price.

She's coming back for good? Make sure your house is "clean" first. laugh.gif

If you ship to EU address, the VAT will not be exempted. But if you live and earn in EU, the price is still reasonable I guess. biggrin.gif

Again, rthj, congratulations on your new player, very quick delivery. I guess you'll be installing the mod kit?

actually amazon UK only ship within UK for these sort of stuffs...so the VAT still applies...and yes for those BD i got from UK, the VAT still applies..in fact UK's VAT is lower than many other EU countries..so they will have to top up the VAT when I order..

as for the mod chip...have not decided on that yet...havent found anyone willing to do this around here...the nearest is the mod chip distributor in stockholm..but have to find time to go there....or ship it there....see how it goes.
*
You're using a Vpost like service to re-ship to you? For this holiday season Amazon is having a special offer, only 15%. Usually it's 17.5%.

I'm also considering the mod kit from Bluraymods.com, but I have to install it myself, need to improve my soldering skill first.

Really ar? Well, for us outside EU, the price will always be the same. It's imposed based the original price, so when the VAT changes, only the price with VAT will change. We always pay the original price.

Me also not in hurry to mod, my BDs are mostly from US anyway, and I only purchase region free titles only from UK. For DVDs, I have separate player for it. biggrin.gif

I own a PS3 since September 2007. But now I bought a standalone player as well. Why? There must be reasons, right? Check back through the pages for the answer. biggrin.gif
