thinking of upgrading my blu ray player from sony bdp 350 to pioneer bdp 51 fd or panny bd 35/55 ( btw i'm using panny plasma tv)
question is......is the profile is really important? 1.1. 2.0. bd live etc.
my style...put in the cd and enjoy the movie.use remote to start and stop only.
pioneer is much better than sony in terms of pq and aq. seen already
ht kaki can try to quote me (pm) price for panny bd player please?
*
About Profile 2.0, it's totally up to you. But after you done an audition and narrowed to 2 players with smilar quality in audio/video, the one with the latest profile will have my vote. Check my post below for speed reference. This is just an info you can take, but not necessarily be the main deciding factor:

And check this for ranks and reviews. The Pioneers have not been reviewed though.

I know it will not be a easy decesion.
btw does the profile really important? rclxub.gif
i do not think that extra features like playing game or director commentary important for me. biggrin.gif
i only need a good av experience and will not miss any scene in the movie, be it profile 2 or profile 1.1.
well sifu do you think that i will miss any scene in the movie by using profile 1.1 instead of profile 2.0.
that pioneer picture quality really keng and the sound as well...btw i'm using onkyo 606 avr.
hope to get feed back from friends from lyn. rclxms.gif
*
Looks like you already made up your mind? You said it yourself how the PA/AQ is really keng. That is the most important thing of movie experience. If you don't mind the slow speeds, then what you're waiting for?

No sifus can help you about the profile question. Like I said, it's totally up to you. BD-Live is just an extra, nothing more. Why would you miss any scene?

If the question is, "Does the Profile 2.0 important to the movie?". Then the answer is NO.

But it the question is, "Does the Profile 2.0 important to the YOU?" Then only you can answer that.

That's right Yed. When we bitstream the audio, which player you use doesn't matter anymore. It will then depend on your receiver.

Personally, I haven't seen the Pioneer in action too.

Not sure, he has both players to compare.

From my own comparison with the PS3, my BD35 looked a little bit better. Mind tricks? Doesn't matter, it makes me happy. tongue.gif

When doing comparison with PS3, the other player must also set to PCM.

If it's bitstream, the real comparison is between the PS3 and the receiver, not the player. Bitstreaming is known to have a slight advantage, that is reducing jitters, so it's natural for it to sound better (if you can really hear the difference) and also add the receiver's own decoding quality. The players do nothing while bitstraming except sending the codec to the receiver.

To make comparison of audio between players, both must set to PCM to decode internally. The S350 can't decode DTS-HD MA internally (only bitstream), so it's impossible to compare DTS-HD MA between the players. But the S350 can decode the Dolby TrueHD, so you can make a fair comparison for this codec.

Enjoy your new player bro. biggrin.gif

since we are int he topic of bitstream vs pcm, so if a player can decode dts-hd/dolby digital hd and signal send as PCm then it does'nt matter wether your avr can decode dts-hd or dolby hd right? you will still get lossless audio?

Added on December 21, 2008, 1:43 pmoh yea i thought ps3 also can send bitstream signal. while you are watching the movie press the triangle button, you can choose bitstream from the menu.
*
Eh, I've post about this too may times already. PS3 can't bitstream lossless audio codecs, If you send bitstream for DTS-HD MA/Dolby TrueHD, only the core tracks DTS/Dolby Digital will be sent to the receiver. Try it, then press display on PS3 remote to see the info, and also check on your receiver, it will only say normal DTS/Dolby Digital. As a PS3 owner, I thought you should already know this.

nonono...not profile 2.0. It is firmware 1.21

Added on December 26, 2008, 12:11 pmi have done a more thorough test on the 51. the audio quality is simply great. i was playing my all time favourite movie 'close encounter' and it was a whole new experience!!! loading time after the fw update has also improved much, and it looks like a 'tank'...hehe
*
When Htkaki mentioned 2.0, he meant the BD Profile 2.0, not the firmware version.

I think he meant to ask if the new firmware update will include support for BD Profile 2.0. The player was originally shipped with BD Profile 1.1.

Go here to check for region B coding info. Click on other tabs for other regions.

BTW, those new players look like the upgrade is more to downloading online content and better designs. rclxms.gif

friend who brought me the BDP told me the free national treasure 2 is not in the box.....i reported that to Amazon UK...and in less than 2 hours....they responded....giving me 2 options

1. they refund me 10% of the purchase order...that is about 20GBP
2. I order the national treasure bd and to contact them when it is ordered..and the charge will be reversed.

that is really good customer service.
*
Yup, Amazon's CS is the best I've ever experienced. notworthy.gif

When we write to them that a particular package didn't arrive after the estimated time, they will resend it. But if after that the missing package somehow turned up at your doorstep, Amazon sometimes will just tell you to keep it as complimentary.

But of course, because of this and many other goodwills by them, we shouldn't take advantage lah. tongue.gif

Me and a few other fellow forumers has brought in BD players without any problem. My case, they use no extra box or wrapping at all, just the BD player's box itself. My player arrived my doorstep a few hours after the plane landed. biggrin.gif

The VAT will be automatically deducted if shipping address is outside EU. But unfortunately Amazon does not ship electronic products internationally. From Amazon UK, Vpost does not ship to Malaysia, only way is to buy when you're in UK (with VAT), then have to claim VAT yourself when bring back to Malaysia. Plus the player will be locked to region B unless you install the modkit chip which will add you few hundred bucks more.

From Amazon US, wait until the price drops (I bought my BD35 for only US$222) and can use Vpost to send straight to your home (or any other services available from our forumers here). It's region A so no worries about modding the player, just need to buy a cheap transformer, that's all. biggrin.gif

under declaring the thing also pose a risk to oneself, isnt it? if the thing is damaged or missing, then the shipper's liability is only on the declared amount, right?

Yes, that's correct. The insurance will only cover declared value. So if using cheap shipping method, the risk is high. But I don't worry much if using DHL/Fedex/UPS, they're much more secured, efficient and reliable. biggrin.gif
