I tried it and was tempted to get it.
It's a very versatile amp, I'll have to give it that. It definitely sounds better then any of their other modelling amps, and they heavy metal amp setting is VERY convincing. Nice, tight low end, and sparkly mids. Even their cleans is surprisingly sweet. The main reason why I didn't get it, is that it's Marshall, mid-Gain distortion lacks....... soul. I dunno why, but when playing blues riffs on that setting, too much gain as clean, too little gain as a metal amp. I practically LIVE on Marshall's famous JCM800 sound, and it doesn't sound anything like that. But for the rest of the package, it rounds up REALLY well. If that's the case...... the Spider Valve is a good choice.
The metal settings can cover all that...... and I mean Duckie can buy 3 Marshall........ factories. |

Half Stack? It's gonna be over your budget already.
Maybe you can check out the Bugera. I haven't heard it, was supposed to test out, but never found the time. But anyway, when I'm back from the US on the 23rd, will bring (hopefully) my new toy and test it out. |

Yup. Had to work my a$$ of for the amount of cash I needed.
Parents chipped in abit, but not as much as Duckie. You can also try Ceriatone amps. They make a clone version of the JCM800 2203 (100W) and 2204 (50w). check out www.ceriatone.com for more info. Another thing you have to remember about tube amps, is that you need to play them at a healthy volume (ie: loud) to get their full benefits. You won't get the crunch you're looking for if you're playing it at a relatively low volume. Unless of course you buy something like the THD Hotplate. |

Nope. Just annoyed neighbors
Keep in mind, I have a 60w amp, so it doesn't take as much volume as say a 100w to get the crunch I need. Besides, my dad encourages, nay, INSIST I play at a decent volume. This post has been edited by blacktrix: Jul 5 2008, 09:12 PM |

QUOTE(blacktrix @ Jul 5 2008, 07:18 PM) Yup. Had to work my a$$ of for the amount of cash I needed. well, from wat i've read, the 18watter is good enuff to get the british crunch, esp when it's just only 18w, doesnt hav tat much headroom, so it'll be easier for the tube to breakup(is this the word?).Parents chipped in abit, but not as much as Duckie. You can also try Ceriatone amps. They make a clone version of the JCM800 2203 (100W) and 2204 (50w). check out www.ceriatone.com for more info. blacktrix, when will u be leaving? dont forget lamb of god's new dvd!
didnt realise i have that tag underneath my avatar til u hinted. awesomeness! THANKS anyways, on buying amps like those, make sure u can play them and fully utilize them. i personally feel its more worth it just getting an amp modeller and hook it up to decent monitors or FRFR speakers if you're just gonna play at home and not a loud volume, as to say get a half stack, dont fully utilize and end up with only one amp tone. and trust me, playing a 100w tube at even at volume 4 isnt satisfying (even that is loud). however, maybe its just me being half deaf |
