To all the BASS Sifu...........I need your help & advice! How to find the 'sweet spot' ( sub woofer placement ) for my HT sub? Right now I place my sub woofer on the right hand side on the front corner of my living room. The trouble is on my sitting position in the slightly behind the middle of the living room the bass effect is so so only.  sad.gif  But when I am sitting at my PC table just by the side of my living room the bass is very good! Even my PC table go vibrate! smile.gif  So how or where to place my sub? Actually how to find the 'sweet spot' arrrr??? Oh! I don't have any SPL meter, the only 'spl meter' I got is my own two ear. blush.gif Tq very much in advance for all the advice & help. smile.gif

Crawl like a baby around the room, when you hear the best bass you like, that's the sweet spot. Move you sub to that position.

For best results, wear a baby diaper while crawling . laugh.gif

Hi Sifus,

I am looking for a sub. Do u think Wharfedale Sub is better or the MS sub for a price of RM1.5k & below?

Yup, for <RM1.5k, I would also recommend the Wharfy SW150, very nice for it's price range. MS Carnival 9 can go up to 25Hz, but a little underpowered. THe newer MS subs don't really impress me much. wink.gif

You all are fast learner tongue.gif

Yesterday, itchy butts. I reposition my sub again. This time by using the SPL meter when crawling around. Now, a bit backache. Guess I am getting old for this sad.gif

SPL is to calibrate the correct volume setting for all channels but the placement is for the best cohesion with the rest of the spkrs. The trick is to blend the sub with the rest as if it is not there and with the best 'ooomph' wink.gif

The crawling method is to find the best position to minimize peak and valley across the freq response of the bass. Because bass freq is very low, the cancellation of wave in the room is greater. You can easily hear the differences in bass if you walk around in your HT room. Even my Velodyne DD eq can't cater for certain freq if the placement is bad. If you have DD, it's very easy. Just place the sub at your listening position, turn on the freq sweep and use the mic at all possible position in your room. The graph that show the flatest would be the optimum location.

If your sub do not have a freq sweep graph, then you need to use your ears. The better way is to use SPL meter and play certain freq between 20hz to 100 hz and plot the graph for each location but took a long time to do. Remember, if you have eq in your sub, cut is always better than boost.

HornyAngMoh problem I believe is he is sitting in the valley of the sub sound. Move your sub in / out from the wall should shift your peak/valley around. If your coffee table is 3 ft from your position, the first thing to do is shift your sub out 3 feet. Try and see or should I say hear sweat.gif

Wow! Tq very very much for this inform! biggrin.gif Ok so the test tone have to be 20 to 100 hz! Ok will adjust the sub respond hz to 80hz & I will have to output my onkyo LFE to 80hz also ( now at 120hz ). I am using onkyo spk test tone to do this ( no suitable music to try, all techno type, very noisy & not much bass blush.gif ). Have to try over the weekend or else family will think I have gone 'cuckoo' tongue.gif

Of how do u set up two sub woofer? Connection I know, it is the placement of two sub woofer. Now I got two sub, one 10" ( not using at the moment ) another 12".
Tq very much & have a nice day! smile.gif

Paradigm DSP Series was my first choice. But budgetary cut-down forced me to settle for the Velodyne CHT-10R. But no regrets, the 10R performs incredibly great for it's price. thumbup.gif
