QUOTE(rockets @ May 13 2009, 11:24 AM)
question about this script:
/usr/sbin/iptables -I POSTROUTING -t nat -o vlan1 -d 192.168.1.0/24 -j MASQUERADE
ip addr add 192.168.1.2/24 dev vlan1 brd +

my modem's IP is 10.0.0.1, so...

/usr/sbin/iptables -I POSTROUTING -t nat -o vlan1 -d 10.0.0.0/24 -j MASQUERADE
ip addr add 10.0.0.2/24 dev vlan1 brd +

correct? used to be able to get it to work on my old modem, never got it to work on my new one.
*
i think u should check what subnet mask for your modem is.

if 255.255.255.0, the mask bits value is /24
if 255.0.0.0, mask bits should be /8

let say ur modem ip is 10.0.0.1 and subnet 255.0.0.0,
so the script should be:

/usr/sbin/iptables -I POSTROUTING -t nat -o vlan1 -d 10.0.0.0/8 -j MASQUERADE
ip addr add 10.0.0.2/8 dev vlan1 brd +

one more thing, enable dhcp in the modem and make sure router ip is not same class as modem.
ur router should be using 192.168.x.x and not 10.x.x.x

Hi,

This is all interesting: however, I would like to know if I can use Tomato to setup up vlans on each of the 4 ports.
I intend to setup vlan1 on port 1, vlan2 on port 2, and so on. Then I'd plug in a switch to each of the ports so that I can keep
various things together and separate my network.

Any ideas if this is possible with Tomato? I've seen somewhere on DD-WRT that it is possible, but not sure about
Tomato - I would prefer to do it on Tomato since it's lighter and not so bloated.

Thanks,
D

Use this NTP

ntp.jaring.my

It would be accurate , select +8 GMT and change it to ntp.jaring.my !

our own local NTP server !

I manage to make my Hdd as landrive..smile.gif

Also with other variant that able to have VPN feature ( support Openvpn +CA). That is awesome since our stimyx connection sux till we need vpn to surf oversea site.

Now I manage to get hold another Asus WL-500Gp (U dunno how rare this router are).. will configure 1 with VPN firmware and 1 with Victek firmware USB version..Double wootness...biggrin.gif

I am still new on this VPN thingy. Most of setting are done by my tech guy ala my cousin.

U need few things before start:
1) Server/proxy that had OpenVPN with Certificate Authority (refer to below picture)
2) your own Certificate Authority (CA) and generating certificates and register keys
3) router with tomato VPN firmware
user posted image

General step are:
1) Client--> Basic. On Basic. Setup as per below.
user posted image

2)On Advance
user posted image

3)On Keys. U need to setup up 3 keys: CA, Client Certificate and Registry Key
user posted image

4) Once all done, just press "Start Now"

To check if it working, just check yr IP @ www.whatismyip.com. It will shown VPN ip instead of yr ISP IP.

Hope this help...

Thanks everyone for this really interesting forum - I enjoyed reading through the posts and appreciate the tone and expertise of the comments!

I myself left linksys firmware behind about one and a half years ago, after switching our telephone service to VOIP.
The QoS in the linksys firmware were not satisfying at all and looking for an alternative, I found tomato (I think it was 1.19 back then).
The main reason for my choice over dd-wrt or other flavors was the ability to return to the original firmware if anything went wrong.
Plus since I was new to all this (and still have sweaty fingers and some respect when it comes to installing new firmwares), I was afraid to brick my router with one of the wrt softwares.

End of story: I am extremely happy with my choice and will (hopefully never have to) return to linksys.
The only 2 times I unplugged my router was when we were moving houses.

I just upgraded to Tomato 1.24 and will see how that is treating me (1.23 worked like a charm.)

I have two questions:

1.)
Is it in general advised to reset the NVRAM (and adding all settings manually) after upgrading?

2.)
I am trying to understand the advantages of Victek's mod, but can't really find anything about that.
Everybody raves about it, but why would I want to install it in the first place?
I am (still and happily) using a WRT54Gv4 and always on the lookout for making my connections more efficient.
Could someone give me a short rundown or point in the right direction?

Thanks in advance ~

Should be. BolehVPN folks would see its coming from 1 PC (your router is actually a PC). Then it shares it out to all other PC , so that you can share it. Just like how you're using 1 Streamyx connection for x numbers of PC. Just check with your VPN provider (just to be extra safe)

1) Highly recommended. This is because generally new firmware would have new NVRAM values and such and it can interfere with the old ones

2) Well basically victek mods adds one step further such as the ablity to increase the number of concurrent connection , the ability to configure PFIFO packets in GUI. Its possible to do it with the stock firmware , however you'll have to fire up ssh and configure via CLI. Basically , it just adds more spices. Just take a look at what are the modifications , for some people its worth it (especially if you're a heavy p2per/downloader)

It falls under access restriction. You can restrict on which PCs to block which sites
