It's counted as 1 GB because the data needs to be replicated on both cores. Hence, only 1GB amount of data can be used at an instance.

On the technical terms, yes.. they are not sharing memory. Physically speaking, if it were 1gb each side, it should be 2gb. Unless, they can ignore that in term of costing also. I don't mind at all.

Well, of course in term of costing it'd be included. But we as users shouldn't be concerned about costing at all.

Anyway, the card is performing well and is really nice for those who don't have CF capable mobos. I wonder how much it'll be when it reaches Malaysia.

UPDATE: Our initial publication of this article indicated a 2x 512MB framebuffer for a total of 1GB on board. We have since learned that the R700 we tested has 2GB of RAM total for 2x 1GB framebuffers. This has affected some of our analysis and conclusion. We do apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
2gb afterall.

damn.. i still cant decide whether to buy hd 4870 now or wait for hd 4870x2.... zzz....
*
you may first cosider whether you want to invest in your psu first... X2 i need more power
then if you think you have the extra cash of another 1.6k then grap the X2. if not 4870 is really more than enough for current game setting...

the decision is simple..

or if you can wait for R870...

Better wait 4870X2.I dont know why, maybe save space AND more airflow?Becos if CF,your another card might block it so the airflow will...
*
single card is always more preferred than 2 or 3 cards... stability and power consumption vs 3d performance efficiency...

So the AMD acuire ATi is good choice? But their processor is going worse...

Well, from the thread that states the G34 architecture (rectangle processors), above k8 are simply upgrades to k8. They've been adding time for the R&D team, which has been on the G34 architecture for 3 years.
