i think it is the same as the first leather case that i posted. it has a memory card space slot also. but its brandless and the leather looks pretty much of a lower quality. the PDair looks to be of a tougher built.

I've got the taiwan version of the phone... does anyone know how to change the firmware to the malaysian version? basically the pinyin input is really irritating since i don't read it

whats the difference bt e71-1 and e71-2 ?

usually will be E71-1

E71-2 is made for US where it's only compatible fro US 3G band

If camera is your preference in buying a phone then E71 is going to be the last on your list. But if you are looking for a feature packed and powerful smartphone with an edgy design, then the E71 is the phone for you. It is a handheld monster machine in my opinion. No offense to users of other mobile phones, but I have made comparison with Iphone, Samsung i780, Blackberry Bold, Omnia and HTC Diamond. Nokia E71 is the 2nd in my list. Only 1 phone outperform the E71 by a small percentage, that is the Omnia. but judging by the price u have to pay for an Omnia, in terms of value for money, E71 is the overall champion.

I using n82 before, it was the best camera phone for me, the camera performance is great compare to other phone, of course digital camera still the best. the speed is fast and have graphic processing unit inside.
The only drawback is the design not that great, at least the black edition look better than silver wan.
N82 dun have big screen compare to phone like omnia and iphone.

Currently i am using nokia E71, it is very stylish phone design come with leather pouch. For me,i feel the performance of this phone is better than N82 due to faster processor speed.
The camera is really bad when taking picture in dark area, the LCD flash is helpless.
Multimedia function definitely less compare with Nseries.
Anyway, i use phone for messaging and online more, this the reason i choose E71 and the price is affordable compare to omnia.

This is just my comment, each person got different taste on phone they want.

In malaysia, we use E71-1 set.
E71-2 set has Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/1900 HSDPA frequency which the 3G frequency is not compatible in malaysia 3G spectrum.
i dunno why got this different. Sorry.

Yup. The only reason I say Omnia is better is for the screen size and camera. The big screen size provide better view for the eye and also when u use GPS. Camera, needless to say better pictures. But the lack off a QWERTY keyboard makes the phone lack the "Professional" feel. And its a Windows Mobile (I am a Symbian lover). I think Omnia will be more suitable for those looking for an entertaining phone instead of a smartphone.

E71 is great in the looks department although the 3.2 MP camera is not that great. But it takes reasonably good pictures in bright sunlight. Colour tone is a bit off. Darn metal body attracts fingerprints. Surfing is Ok. Had the Symbian OS in my set reflashed as it froze while I was surfing in Sunway. If Nokia improves on its camera and picture colour management it will be a great phone. QWERTY keyboard can be a mite too small but OK if you learn to use your fingernails

Just a little added piece of advise from me. The Qwerty for me is wonderful as my fingers are not that bulky. For those with "Gigandos" fingers, u may want to think twice. If you are someone who prefer a real QWERTY keypad but u have big fingers, then Samsung i780 might be a better choice. this is because each qwerty buttons is separated by few milimeters between each other instead of connected together like the E71, but I personally chose the E71 because the character layout of the whole keypad is better and more impressive on it. The keypad on the i780 seems weirdly design and the character keys give me a hard-to-get-used-to-and-takes-ages-to-type-even-a-sms feeling. Compare it yourself and u will know. I personally tried both phones side by sde before i buy.

any firmware update since launch ka? was wondering do they offer updates as often as they do for the n95. very interested in this 1. maybe i'll go for an AP set which is only 1350.
are there any issues / problems that i shud be aware of? getting the dark metal one soon

Found this information about SAR value since some forum members may be concerned about E71 SAR value of about 1.33 W/kg. E66 is 1.37 W/kg while N96 is 0.87 W/kg, N95 is 0.58 W/kg, N82 is 1.35 W/kg and N78 is at 1.23 W/kg.

When talking about radiation the SAR measurements are totally irrelevant. This is because it only measures when the phone is using the full effect. Phones very seldom use the full power. A phone with a high SAR value may have a better antenna and don't have to use as much power as another phone with a low SAR value and a bad antenna. The SAR value hardly say a thing in normal use. This may mean that since E71 connects very quickly and more efficiently, you may not be subjected to the full SAR value, according to the website I read.

Phone = same. Warranty provider = different. You go to different people to service your phone (if you ever needed to).

But why is AP cheaper?

Oh... Because AP stocks are brought in the "un-official" way. They are not recognize by the local manufacturer in one way or another cos the local manufacturer want to distribute it thru their own channel. And that's ORIGINAL.

But essentially, you will get the same product but pray hard that the model you are getting dun have problems. Cos thru AP, I would say it's slightly more complicated at times.

I found out from a friend that AP (=Approved Product) sets can be made or assembled in different countries (please correct me if I am wrong) and, depending on your luck, you may get one with or without bugs in it. Apparently, according to my friend, the serial number contains a code which gives you a indication of the country of origin (is it true?). They're cheaper of course. If Lady Luck smiles on you your AP set may never give you any problems. I had a Nokia 8250 (AP set). Passed it down to my wife who is using it at the moment. No problems with it.
